Thanks man for not dragging the video for 10 min 😂, video cleared up everything, and was fun to watch too.
What he said! Good video. 😊
iPhone should make wireless iMic
I just sent a long email to Apple about this idea and they just transferred me $95,000.. thanks bro 😂
@@Tj-km7ps are you kidding me 😂
That’s not a bad idea but there not gonna do it they don’t even know how to add iso shutter speed etc to their stock camera so don’t think they know how to make content accessories but after hearing the soundcore x600 Spatial Audio speaker surprised the don’t. Update the beats pill with usb c and Spatial Audio to appeal to apple and android users
Yea then they charge us 999 for it to
If you think about it, they kinda already do. Ever notice the amount of people who record video with Apple Ear Buds in? This is why. The mics are in the buds.
Thank you for sharing, just got rode Christmas presents, best explanation!
Thank you man, just ordered the mic !
love your reaction to the new scratch .. i can relate!
Thanks, that actually helped a lot! 😊
was super helpful! thanks for it being to the point
This is really absolutely fantastic thank you for this!
Thanks for this! Made my decision in 4 mins 🙌🏻
Great job man, short into the point and I think I like the microphone you recommended better than the road Mike I think that I saw on the other video although I’m sure they’re both good
Great video cheers Steve, followed your link to the DGI Mic Basic on Amazon and I've bought it 👍
This video is beautiful!
Brilliant video and thank you
Helpful video. Thanks!
Thanks for the tip about the phone cover!
Super useful, thank you!
Thanks for this!
Really helpful! Thanks!
Thank you for this video! I think the Rode VideoMic Mc-C is exactly what I need! All of my videos have had the terrible wind noise from the internal Mic
Really helpful, thanks
Thanks hugely much, Steve! Sure ‘n new subscriber here! 🇺🇸💛🇮🇪
Thanks for this video quick
Hey! I am trying to connect my mic with the iPhone 15 pro max but it’s not getting detected. On black magic camera.
Thank you very informative!
Thanks a lot for this video
Excellent explanation 👍👍👍
wow the DJI mic sounds great in the comparison, appreciate it breh breh
Thanks so much
Great video! As a new CZcamsr, and soon to be a new iPhone user, this points me in the right direction. I'm curious though... what mic are you using for the rest of the video, because that one seems to be flawless.
Thanks ofr this video!
In many situations I like to hear the wind bashing and whooshing when someone is adventuring or some place exotic. It adds to the scene.
The only times I like or expect crystal clear audio is if they're in a studio.
Very useful. Many thanks. I just ordered one. And I subscribed to your channel. You might not believe this but I still have an iphone 7. I think I've had it for about 3 or 4 years - lol.
Thanks man! Definitely for wireless I need the dji mic. Can you give the soundtrack name from your b rol?
That DJI wow! I’m sold
Thanks I got a DJI Mic because of this vid , so giving you a like and comment!
Thanks for mentioning the case issue with the Rode. Far too many mic reviewers fail to point out such problems when in the real world, most people use a case.
PS I have a Fulaim X5 wireless mic which offers similar functionality to the DJI while only 1/3 of the price.
yeah..I must keep my 15 pro max in a case...so the Fulaim is a good one? anything more simple...wired is fine...I just don't need a wireless option-thanks
Nice blogging sir enjoy and have a good day ❤
Brilliant video, I'm looking for a mic to create audio programs as I want to improve my sound quality. But the option of recording outside is very appealing as I could repurpose the content and create video as well :) Two questions: 1. Does the windshield help eliminate the pop sounds 2. are you using the back camera or front?
Literally heard 5 seconds of the Rode mic and made up my mind! That wind gard is way more appealing than an lav that picks up shirts and still some wind imo.
Wow makes the difference
The new pro looks amazing Steven for video makers. I’m going for the max but looks like the middle of November before I can get it😭 For audio I’ve just bought the zoom f2 field recorder with 32-bit float after spending about 6 months trying to decide between that and the Dji mic! Not been out with it yet but excited to get playing, only downside for me is syncing the audio. Looking forward to more of your tips with the 15!
You'll get fantastic audio with that, just got that bit of extra post processing time. I would have gotten the max but its a tad too big to fit into my running vests the way I would want to carry it.
Just bought one. Thanks
This could easily be the best commercial for the DJI mic :D
thank you. You have just created other alternatives to zoom external recorders!
you are very articulate and sound like a true artist! may your lifeswork be blessed!!! enjoy yourself my kind earthly neighbor. I love you and God loves you too!!! 💙
thank you for the video! I have iPhone 13 Pro Max, should I go for me-C or me-L?
I have tried using my phone Bluetooth device with my Android device and it does work and no need to plug any receiver into the phone because it's using the Bluetooth. Another great small device is the BOYA mics for phones that are fantastic quality and signal and very cheap, also you can stick a tiny dead cat over the top mic and cuts out all the wind. Other new option now out is the Hollyland Lark 2, looks great and cheaper than top end mics. cheers
Thank you sir
Hey sir, great video.. just curious did you use iPhone 15’s native video recording app? Does it take the dji mic 2 as an audio source?
How far away can you be from the RODE plug in mic for it to still pick up a great sound? Especially in a noisy environment.
Thanks for your video. I have two big questions though. #1 - Will you be researching a plug in mic work around (either another brand or an adapter) that allows us to use it with a case? What's the point of outdoor vlogging with a good mic if you have to constantly be worried about damaging your phone right? (Wireless is great but not good for all purposes. For example, sometimes you want to interview someone on the fly, not fun having to lose the moment and mic them with a wireless. I'm honestly kind desperate to solve this). #2 - I just got off the phone with Rode, the tech, Luke, actually said that that VideoMic Me-C That you talk about doesn't yet work properly with the iphone as it was designed for Android and is running into software and hardware and app compatibility issues with the iPhone as the iphone USB-C port is so new. Any thoughts on this? Much appreciated!!!!
Can I use the iPhone’s native Camera App for video recording with Rode Videomic Me-C’s audio? Or which video app you were using?
useful thanks
I have a question for you. How is the sound quality comparing the Rode and the DJI? How about the sound quality between the 3 in non windy environments? I recently got a wireless mic similar to the DJI and I’m not sure it’s better sound quality than the iPhones built in mic when indoors in a quiet environment. I still need to test more with gain etc with the wireless mic but I’m wondering if I should just stick with the builtin mic of the iPhone for my use case. Appreciate a response and thanks for the video.
The Saramonic UC Mini is a great option too. I have 2 DJI Mic systems, I have the rode Mic Me and I even have the Rode Wireless Pro system. But that little Saramonic is what I carry with me all the time if I am only taking my phone. It's tiny and works great. You do have to buy the Dead Cat separately, and you will 100% need it, but they make it specifically for it which is nice. It also works with the DJI Action 4 which is a plus. One of the biggest reasons I like it on the DJI A4 is b/c I don't have to remove the door when I want to use it. You do have to swivel it out 45 degrees so it's not in the frame, but it isn't an issue. I would put a link but if I do CZcams will put my comment in the "held for review" status on your YT studio. So I will put the link in a separate comment.
I’ll take a look at that! I tested the 3.5mm version a couple of years ago and it was good but not as good as either of these. The tiny size is appealing
@@stevestechemporium oh yeah its not near as good of quality as the other two options you showcased, BUT what you lose in quality you make up for in portability.
Great video, i have a question. If you connect this micro and start a video conference for example zoom, teams, etc, the applications-of-videoconference take the this micro, and is it posible to listen the audio in bluetooth or speakers ?
How do you use a wired external mic and record to an external SSD on the iPhone Pro 15 Max?
Hey, thanks for the video. How far away can you be from the DJI mic basic that is attached to the iPhone? Could it be set up on a tripod about 6 - 10 ft away and still have good sound quality?
Wont these mess up the balance if you’re using a gimbal because of the added weight?
Thanks for the video. I'm looking for how to connect an SSD drive to my iPhone 15 PRO (for recording PRORES video) as well as an external microphone. Thank you!
I have the same issues how to doo it
You can plugged in a DJI mic2 who coms with DJI osmo pocket 3 creator mode.
great vid!! I jump straight to purchase the Rode VideoMic Me-C but only 299 purchases and 3.3 rating, I wonder what the deal is or it's just not working properly. Is yours still working ok?
I have been through 2 Mode ME-C models on my Iphone 15 Pro and had to return both. Inconsistent static noise. I called and rode and they informed me that this mic is not made to work for the Iphone 15 with USB C as it can not get firmware updates. They have no plans of making this work or be able to be updated by firmware updates for the Iphone 15. When the mic worked (50% of the time) it was great, but it was inconsistent and I couldnt trust the audio would ever turn out.
Wind noise the bane of any videographer hence the need for some post sound design and sound samples. Only downside I can think off, is the iPhone & many Samsung's record in stereo which can be great on ambient scenes, towns, villages, a car passing right to left etc, both excellent options you show here are mono, is there a recommended stereo mic for smart phones?
not something I've ever really worried about to be honest. I will sometimes animate the direction a sound is coming from during editing if I want it to be off to one side or travel from one side to the other. for example I had a shot where I run from left to right so I started the sound coming from the left speaker and animated it across to the right.
Apple Noise Reduction on MacBook M1 and higher is superb. I think they should also introduce it inside iPhone camera app as well. No matter how much banging happens around you, it will remove all the background noise through AI. Its magical!
AI noise reduction is great I use a plugin all the time. But it can’t fix really bad wind noise as there’s nothing to fix. Using a physical wind shield substantially increases the chances of recoverable audio.
I often use both
@@stevestechemporium There's a workaround in post processing. You can use either audition or audacity. Select the area from the waveform which only contains the noise wind and then process the noise. Once done, apply noise reduction to the whole audio clip. It may help you to some extent but again it's not perfect.
I need to get one of those for my wife, she hates to use any other camera but her iPhone. Great video as usual !
will definitely help with the audio on the high seas!
@@stevestechemporium it would !
I’ve just got the iPhone 15 Pro and it’s almost impossible to vlog with as the audio quality is terrible so I’m still using my GoPro Hero 9 Black as it’s way better
This issue I'm trying to over come is external recording for ProRes and external audio recording without it becoming completely janky.
There’s ways of doing that involving a USBC hub but it’s really messy. Other option would be to record directly to the DJI mic and then use the iPhone mic audio to sync afterwards. But adds to the workflow
Is it possible to find a shock mount with a hot shoe and use a cable to connect a Sony camera?
Thinking of dual use, USB-C for iPhone and the 3.5mm output jack for Sony camera. But the problem could be the power source :-)
Interesting, thanks for the video. Will the Rode work in all camera apps? Rode actually just told me it is only compatible with Android. Was about to purchase the lightning version with the USB-C adapter.
It should do, worked for me in Blackmagic and Moment app. Will the lightning version work with adapter? With adapter it might not grip the phone
Can you use it if you have a protective case on your iPhone though? That is a problem I had with a Shure mic I bought. I had to file it to clear the case.
Could see the “wind muff” when you swing left and right
yeah that was on the ultra wide lens. You can trim down the wind muff with a pair of scissors a bit if this happens.
Great video & yes, in wind, nobody really talks about it. The elephant in the room for me is... I'll want my external SSD connected too & nobody talks about that????
Good point! Personally I use a third party app and shoot high bitrate h.264 in log. It’s been good enough for the majority of my commercial work on my mirrorless cameras. Very few people really need to shoot ProRes Log.
I like going onto live streams on CZcams using my iPhone but right now I just have a wired mic but when I plug it in the audio on the live stream is cut out,any advice
Does the microphone record in stereo? I’m looking for one. The ZOOM Am7 stereo mic has the USB connector but it is for Android phones and not the IPhone even though it has a USB. Not many portable options out there.
Hey I might be asking dump question, but can we use this mic to talk during phone call?
DJI really excel in your test. I do have a question though. Will it capture the surrounding sound? What I meant is that, I would like to capture the ambient sound like cicadas when in nature and the train when in town.
The DJI will be better at this as it’s an omnidirectional mic. If you put it further away from your mouth you will get more environmental audio vs voice
Not sure if there’s a work round but you cannot use the iPhones speakers with the rode plugged in
I've used two different Rode VideoMic Me-L (you care using the Rode VideoMic Me-C for iPhone 15 though)with the iPhone 13 Pro and it will stop recording for a split second every 5-10 minutes or so. I tried different recording apps and same. Other mics don't seem to do this. I saw 1/2 dozen people over the years report he same thing with various iPhones. I contacted Rode and got the software and updated the firmware but same thing. It did work find with iPhone 6 to iPhone 11 Pro.
Yes, mine does that too. A glitch that screws with the overall flow, but then everything returns to normal. Weird.
@@CashPeters-TheEnglishChannel I wish they fix it cuz it records nice quality. I told them about it but nothing.
@@eri7-11 I've just bought a USB-C version, so I'll see if that works better than the Lightning one.
Which mic are you using for the video ?
problem with mic me .. is for vlogging / doc style is you need to record video BOTH in front and behind at same time ... ie capture your voice narrating/commenting on the scene but also capture the audio in front, like people talking or ambient sound of what you are filming
I’ve been using the Rode ME. Works very well for me in a similar situation to yours where I am on a bike with my camera filming others I ride with. Also helps that it is reasonably priced. The only downside is that it doesn’t have internal recording which would have been handy
Good vid cheers!
Does the receiver for the DJI have a lightning adapter too??
I currently have an iphone with lightning connector but will change later in 2024 when new iphone 16 pro max comes out.
So I need to use the wireless mic now on current phone - does that make sense?
Yes lightning and USBC
I’ve had the Rode for a couple of weeks now. Great stuff. However, I’d say approximately 1 in every 10 recordings I get a sudden sound drop of a fraction of a second. Anyone know the cause?
Can I use this for iPhone 12?
What about a mic for getting ambient nature sounds without picking the sound of you (breathing, walking, etc)
Are these mics using the built in Camera/Video app?
Hello, where did you get the windsock from? Thanks
If it’s any consolation even the natural titanium one is just a painted glass back so scratch would have happened anyway, maybe just less noticeable with that lighter colour 😊
One point you made that annoys me about pretty much all accessories that plug directly in to the usb c or lightning port is you need to remove the case to get it to fit. One answer to that is you can get these usb c male to female couplers that are only a 2-3 cm long which allow you to have the best of both worlds but it’s far from ideal.
I’m reluctant to add another potential failure point. I think I might just take a knife and modify my case
@@stevestechemporiumthat's definitely smart... It's quite important to remember that quite few of those short cables support proper speeds as far as I know.
Please let us know which option works out. I have also heard drama with modifying the case.@@stevestechemporium
Is a mic worth it if not vlogging but just filing scenery with no talking?
Nice comparison. When you use the Rode mic and record video, then playback to preview it with mic still plugged in, does the sound still play through the iPhone speakers? Or do you have to unplug the mic each time? (Does iPhone recognize it’s only a mic and not a headphone / mic combo?)
You have to unplug unfortunately. It’s a pain
@@stevestechemporium thanks for confirming... that's a deal breaker. Wish they had a pass through headphone jack for monitor and playback, like the Movo VXR10 Pro.
agreed, huge pain!@@stevestechemporium
Can you can’t use the external video storage
Wow.. its work? I wanna buy rode vlogger kit USB C edition for my Ip 15 Pro 😅
The lady on the bench at 3:15 😂
Are there any attachments that would allow the dji mic connected with a sd drive to be attached at the same time to shoot log and get great audio ?
currently no and to be honest I suspect it might not be possible. Prores is a bit overkill for most of my videos so I'll mostly use a third party app to shoot log video at a high bitrate instead
can i use it in iphone 14 pro max?
How do they do when there are a lot of people around, talking?
what camera are you using?
Hi! I have an iPhone 14 Pro (lightning). Does the lightning version of the Rode mic (Rode ME-L) also work with the iPhone camera app? I recently bought the Rode Lavalier Go but it is not compatible with the iPhone camera app. It works perfectly in lots of other programs (like GarageBand or Voice Memo) - but not with the camera app. The camera app will just use the native iPhone mics, even if the external mic is plugged in. According to Apple support, the iPhone camera app doesn’t support external microphones!
I have the Rode Me-L and it drops out when used with the iPhone camera app and voice memos. Not often, but enough to p--- me off.
OMG… this is probably the problem I’m having trying get the external microphone to work.
Can anybody confirm please, if speakers of phone are still working while mic is plugged in?
surprised you didn't mention Wireless ME with Magnet
