Homemade Metal Band Saw

  • The Metal Band saw works very well, cutting is fast and precise, you can cut at any angle. I also planned to do a tape cooling system but ran out of time, but despite the lack of cooling the tape does not heat up and the cutting tape does not dull. To build the band saw I used a vice that I built in one of my earlier videos.

I was thinking the same as I watched it come together. I guess this is what you do when nothing at the store meets your high standards. That bandsaw could end up in a museum after hundreds of years of continuous use, and future peoples would have an inflated sense of our craftsmanship in this era.

I don't know how to put a better comment than that. I am wordless. Thank you for sharing and I did like your video. I am a doctor but like to watch mechanical project like this. It reminds me of my childhood when I used to watch lathe machining and mechanical work in our town at that time I was 9 years old and now I am 39 yrs. I love to see rusty steel cut into pieces and then turns into shining metal. The cutting is so cool like cutting a birthday cake. I love it.

Great work! Nice to see you used a proper ball bearing race mounted on it's edge for the back of the band saw blade to run up against. Many cheap band saws just have the band saw blade continuously scuffing on the side of a ball bearing outer race to give back support.
