The 'tempo rubato' is well illustrated in this short animation film... at the beginning, the old man is reliant on his metronome to keep the beat, simply because he is down and out of loving feelings in his heart, and his music is clearly lifeless. After his encounter with the stray dog, his heart opens up and his music becomes inspired by loving feelings and free. He is thrilled when he realizes that he does not actually need the metronome anymore! There is a great sense of freedom for a musician once he/she gets to that stage in his/her musical journey! The old man is now playing with 'rubato', a musical indication from the composer asking the musician to play slightly loosely with tempo so as to allow more feelings to show. That is the subtle but important distinction between a robot precision playing (=lifeless) and a more inspired and expressive playing that stirs the listener's soul. If you look further, you notice that at the end, before starting to play, he looks up the dog wagging tail to give him the beat, just like a metronome would! Then starts playing and the two of them are totally in-sync.. so lovely and free!
Don't forget that Rubato also means "robbed" or "stolen" - the musician steals time from one note and gives it to another. But his metronome was also stolen...

He's been doing this for a long time..judging by the four worn away patches on the stool that match up with the four corners of his metronome,lovely little detail..plus,the darker wood in the centre where the metronome has protected it from the Suns rays.❣

This is one of my favorite cartoons. Today, I paused it because I couldn't recall the musical definition of "rubato." Wow! The title was so well chosen with the musical settings and character pacing offering both aural and visual echoes of the title!

Haven't historically liked CG films, had to do all practical work on projects in college. This was a simple story and well done, nicely paced, I'm sure it was a lot of work and everyone did a great job!

Can you tell me how much time does it take to make one in blender all by your self?
@@mranonymous481 it will really depend on skill and experience. Have a crack at one building and then scale it up for the different assets your going to put in your city (taking into account the different amounts of detail you need to model at different distances though).
It takes time to accept new things and changes.

Most importantly, it also refers to the italian musical term 'rubato' or 'tempo rubato' which ask for a musician to play slightly loosely with the tempo in order to emphasize certain key notes, to give the music a more human feeling. That is the huge difference between machine precision playing and humanly felt interpretation. The former is boring , while the latter stirs the soul.

This short movie is amazing though. Background music caught my attention. Every thing is explained simply and beautiful. Specially the ball comes back to him.

They both recognized the other in time as KindredSpirits, his music escalating to a ‘soundless’ metronome, the appreciation of the wagging tail.....imo

Well, you don't like or dislike a movie just because its content or story, there is more to it than that. Like aesthetics for instance.

I have a 4yr old aussie border Collie I raised as a puppy. She is my best friend and companion. I hiked with her today, like every day, an realized it will shatter me when God takes her. She's young and strong now and I appreciate every moment. ❤️ oh and she "sings" at the top of her lungs with me while listening to my favorite music. I now just howl right along with her. I'm 63, silver haired, and we make quite a spectacle in my truck singing like maniacs while driving along.
