Love the liveries that go to Madeira, very difficult landing, but the scenery outside of the airport is amazing. I love how when the terminal is shown all you see is Ocean and the big rock formations by the coast. Great video!

it's true, i love this airport, unique, I usually go 2 times a week.
Not the easiest approach, but some beautiful landings. I loved the illusion on the ATR that the props were barely turning.

Where is the best place to catch a flight from America there? I see SATA has at least one route from New York to PD. is that the local hub?
I first time flew to Madeira from Lisbon, landing 2 meters from water, the road to Funchall was like driving on a potatofield, it all has been fixed since, now smooth travelling.
As being from Lisbon do you feel as a Portuguese in Madeira or do you feel its completely a different community than mainland Portuguese?

They have routine maintenance....called CAMP. they include A,B,C,D checks...A checks are done overnight every 500 hours,B checks are done every 4-6 months and last 3 days ,C checks every 15-20 months and last 1-2 weeks and D checks take up to 2 months and are done every 5 years.

Surprised there is no footage from the terminal area, is spotting and photography no longer allowed there, seems to me given the direction of the sun, shooting from the terminal would have been optimal. . I seem to recall many photographers shooting in and around the terminal in the mid-90s. Has security been ramped up there since my visit in 97 to the point that photography is no longer allowed from the terminal?
There is a viewing platform in the terminal but it past security so not open to public as far as I'm aware

Aside my comment about TAP how does it feel to be in Madeira as a Portuguese? Do you and the Azores get the respect of being at least a discussed issue occasionally in the national Parliament or do you feel yourselves as islanders who just collect taxes and be figures on tourism videos?

yes, it is :)
Nope it´s a Jet2 B757 not an Allegiant. They are very close to be identical, but the sun on the tail on Jet2s does continiue further down on the fuselage. the sun on Allegiant is on the tail only and is bigger. The Jet2 sun is orange and red the Allegiant is orange and bright yellow

Auctually the largest that can go to the airport is the A330-200 series.
