- Well it time to get started on the 63 Lark. Going to be a lot to do and my time frame just got cut by 6 months. Also bringing Ethan’s 300 SRT 8. Lots of stuff to do , guess I need to insulate the garage so we don’t freeze our butts off this winter. The plan is to have both cars ready for next years #nonamenationals .

When you said next year two cars to NNN my heart sank. Then you clarified Lark and Ethan’s car, you have no idea how happy I am right now. As far as your troll, no you’re not a professional engine builder, the know all of carbs , worlds greatest body guy. But you never pretended to be any. I can live with that. Your a guy that like likes working on stuff period, don’t change.
BTW change the oil on this one ha ha ha .
Awesome!! Happy you are doing your own thing and not attached to.a complete @#$&+, looking forward to the build
I just finished putting together a gen 3 hemi swap with a terminator x setup. So far I really like it and it will be nice for upgrades in the future. At the time of ordering the terminator x, they only offered transmission controllers for chevy transmissions if I remember right. I ended up going with a 46RH transmission behind it for simplicity. Good luck with the build, look forward to seeing your progress!
Great Move Mopar Al
Holy shit man that's going to be awesome!
Sounds like a build right up my alley! This thing is going to scream!
Looking forward to your Lark project. I am sure I won't miss a single video. I love the idea of mixing old school and new tech. Thanks for taking on this project. Jim in Napa.
Wow, this is going to be an interesting build. I can't weight to see it happen Al, pour on the coal brother.
Heck ya bud always forwarded. The lark will rock next year🤙
Hi Al, sounds like a great (though ambitious) plan!
Looks like an great build there Al! I look forward to watching...the gen 3 is an engine that I'd like to learn more about for sure.
I’m a studebaker fan. You should do a studebaker 289, with a Paxton, or with the dual quad setup. Studebaker v8’s run hard if ya didn’t know that. Look at the stude tomato and tge plain brown wrapper in the pure stock muscle car drags. I’ve got a worn out 58 silver hawk with a worn out 289 4bbl and a 3 speed bw.. it runs way better than any mildly built Chevy or mopar small block. Think about it Al..
Insulation will help alot. I borrowed one these from a friend of mine. It had a three on the tree. When i hit second gear the seat tilted to the back seat. He didn't tell me the seat was not bolted down.
Glad you are doing a car with no strings attached. Should be a good build series especially if you can keep Sanford away from it.
I'm not sure what the with of the Studebaker a 8.8 from a explorer probably wouldn't be much different so I don't see being a issue good luck and I'm looking forward to the build.
I really admire you Al, your full of class in my book brother! There's other people out there that don't deserve your friendship and I'm sure we know who that is. Anyway looking forward to the lark build 👍 can't wait!
Nice plan! After seeing your work and fabrication on Slaghammer, I have no doubt you can and will make the Hemi fit!
@Chevy Guy you're kidding right?
@Chevy Guy look at the apache head flow.
Hey Al like your plans. I would love to line up with you but it will be a tough go for me. I would say your lark will be a high 11 car. The Lark suspension works great for drag use. I would look for a 9'' out of a granada its 1/4'' narrower. I am not a fan of 8.8 I have blow many and they use C clips. My buddy picked up a 59 Lark today. His is a hard top his will have a 360 mopar 727 and 9''. So now there is 3 of us building Larks so we can help each other out.
I think it's a solid game plan. I like modern interiors incorporated into old cars, because I know how hard it is to do. 🙂👍
You talk about a sweet build...looking forward to watching all the videos on this build
Great plans, Al. Love your attitude about tackling this ambitious project.
Cool project Al. I'm sure it will work out a lot better this time without a Yankee partner/car owner. As for your work it speaks for itself. Props to you for doing it not just talking about it on cam.
I always said it tony is from nyc metro he will eat AL alive. I was born and raised in NYC you will get taken advantage of here that’s how the game is played up here . Al is a great Honest Man
Your channel is named Mopar Al. Why would anyone assume you would put a Chevrolet motor in it? Great content Al, I'm sure it will be a cool car!
But then he says Gen 3 which I thought meant LS.
Why ? It’s the best way to go fast cheap, and reliable. That 5.7 in comparison to a 5.3LS is junk
For insulation, you might want to think about the spray on 2k uerethane. We had it done in a pole barn, not only did it insulate it was a great sound deadener
Glad to see you working on your own stuff. Small car should fly.
How about a full house slant 6?
Kidding...take it easy.
Good game plan man, and I know you are going to bring it hard at the 2023 No Name Nationals!
Can't wait to see this build through.
Hey Al, glad you are doing your own thing and have plans for next year's NNN. The biggest and most consuming part of a build is your time and this time you will have something to show for it that's yours. Good job!
I might be mistaken but, I believe that the Lark belongs to someone else and Al is building it for them.
Going to a different front suspension/steering will make it possible. That unusual steering linkage will for sure be a problem. Another thing to consider: the 6 cylinder Larks were built with light gauge frame metal, and sedans have no X member built in. The twisting forces induced from drag racing are liable to break something
I'm not saying that you need to build the Lark into a tank. Just a little reinforcement here and there will help. Floors actually contribute some torsional strength.
Yup.. the frame is going to be reinforced.
Can't wait for you to start need help let me know.
Al you sure do know how to bite off a full course meal when it comes to a project!! I'll be tuned in to each segment!! I Love what Wild Rose has done with his Stude and you're taking it to a n ext level. Thanks Al !!!!!!
Very cool! Keep up the great work!
Looking forward to this winter now. lol Thanks Al.
This is going to be good Al !! can't wait!!
Al, always enjoy your videos and I don’t mind a few F bombs if they are necessary. Sometimes an F bomb is just the right word. Keep up the good work and looking forward to the Studebaker build. 👍
My son got a 8.8 narrowed and used two stock short axles...some peopled
say not to change direction with axles but worked while had it. Rambler American with a 350 Chevy, ran high 13's.
Ford used the 8.8 behind the 4.0 in the ranger.
I believe it is in the current f150 yet.
Looking forward to the build Mopar Al, hopefully you can show most of "thinking outside the box", thats what will make this a good build for us to watch. See u on the next one.
This build should be interesting to watch!!👍
We have seen your work and know that you can do it. Wow that will be a lot of work. Go for it Al.
That’s going to be a super kool car. Looking forward to watching the build.
That's a big project buddy but will be very cool when it's done! 👍
As far as Slag goes, I have personally seen many mechanical fuel pumps dump fuel in the engine from a bad diaphragm.
Right on, build your own and race it, should be a speed animal down the 1/4...
Love the body style on the stude
Get her done AL 👍🏻🇦🇺🏴
Looking forward to this build. 8.8 rear end is an excellent choice. I like the idea of 3rd gen hemi going in too.
I was coming here to say this very thing. I know a narrowed explorer 8.8 is a perfect fit in a hawk, but I don’t know about the lark.
Sounds like a great father and son adventure and learning experience. 👍
This will be Very interesting, I really like this kinda build and Nolan did a hell of a lot with his studi, junkyard trans let him Down. He Will be there next year.... You got a lot of work in front of you, but I already know you ain't afraid of that!👍
Going to be a nice ride, I REALLY hope all the electronics behave!
This is going to be a Awesome build AL, can't wait to follow this one along!👍
Good idea on the paint AL
Looking forward to the content Al, keep them coming.
Liking the plans for the lark! Hoping it goes smoothly for you. Normally I'm not a fan of modern interiors in classics, but I really like the idea of reusing the Chrysler floorpan, and it really makes sense to repurpose the seats and center console along with the floor. I'd bet trying to fit the backseat in the Lark may be a challenge, but hey, challenges are just opportunities to think outside the box and do something cool. Really looking forward to seeing how this all turns out: should be awesome!
Good deal, I have a gen 3 Hemi for my 57 Belvedere out of a 300 so I’ll be looking forward to seeing how you tackle it
Good to see you up and going again. Luckily interior is soft I think you’ll need to do a lot of squeezing! It will probably be harder than motor. I’ll be watching.
That’s going to be sweet!
looks like a very interesting build
Going to be a great build and we know you're more than capable of making it work.
Really neat and ambitious project. You’re going to be a hermit for the next year lol.
Love the Lark.. ol Pops had1 out in the front yard just parked.. that and an old Falcon station wagon and they both ran beautiful.. I used to start them up and spin the tires until Dad saw the yard dug up.. that was the end of that!! but yeah first car ever I used to practice driving sitting still 😆
Going to be a cool build, Good luck man!!
Great project combining old classic car and new tech parts car classic modern hemi to create an awesome hot rod! Looking forward to this ambitious, interesting project! I notice that the lark is valued at up to $15,000 on the internet!
Looks like you have your work cut out for you Al, it sounds like a good solid plan.
The Lark Hammer
yes keep it mopar engine on the stude .
You go get get them Big Al
Going to be an interesting car.
This is going to be a cool build, FYI If any Stude parts are needed there is a gentleman in my area that has a boatload. He is a Mopar and Studebaker enthusiast.
Thanks .
Turbo John used a 8.8 for a long time and only busted it two times with 1600 to 1800 HP so yeah I'd say that will be fine and it will be a great build
Love the plans for the stude Al
Hey AL the plan for the Gen3 Hemi swap sounds awesome.
I had guessed that is what you would do.
Excited for you to have your own car.
I know it will be outstanding.
You can know people will follow this build.
Take care, Ed.
Tony featured a video the other night that had a drive trane swap similar to this. They were able to keep IRS set up by shortening the axles by 1 1\2 inches. Just something to consider. I love your content Al.
Saw that.
Hey Al, I can't wait to see the transformation of your Lark. The Hemi engine should get it moving right along. It should make some great impressions at No Name Nationals next year. Thanks for all the great content and we'll see you next time.
Al at 11 minutes in looks like a face in the rear window going to be a wicked little car
What a huge undertaking, it will be interesting to follow. We usually see these projects when they’re all finished and on display at a big show, but seeing your project from day one, snake skin and all, I’ll be watching.
Great plans Al. You work hard and this should turn out to be a special car. At least it's mostly mechanical and not so much external body work. When Larks were new and I was a kid I thought they were old and stodgy and an old person's car. Now I think that they are great and unique.
Too bad the Lark wasn't a 289 with the Dana T/T. Not sure how strong the Dana (pretty sure they were 40's) would be compared to the 8.8, but they are out there from Stude guys, and would bolt right in. As ambitious as the floor swap is, it sounds like an excellent plan. I would take as much of the 300 pan as at all possible, but, it might have to be frame offed to do it like I would picture it. But, as others have said, you do you, and if anyone doesn't like it, there are only about 10,000 other car channels they can tune to.....
Ambitious project for sure!
Hilborn injected 392 might be easier, lol! And sometimes, as in this case, a F bomb is needed to convey one's feelings! Accept no substitutes!
Keep wrenching brother!
Make a Gasser outa the Lark! Strait axle, Hilborn F.I., own the show!
Given all the mods you have suggested, I have to wonder if it wouldn't be easier to just put the Stude body on the Chrysler frame.
Also, it sounds like you and Tony are in Divorce Court. Why not clarify the situation and be done with it.
Will be a cool car when you get it finished
This sounds exciting Al. I cant wait till you start grafting these two together. I wish I was there to help.
Looking forward to the Lark build.
Glad to see the old Stude getting a new lease on life
Will be a interesting build
Man that’s a pile of work! But challenging projects are usually the most rewarding. I think it’s important that you mentioned the the plans could change. You’ve got a deadline to meet and have an initial goal in place. Nice one, Al! The Ark-Lark will live!
Yeah the best thing is to use the terminator X system it's so easy to hook up but you will need someone that knows what they are doing with the Holley system to tune it for you that way you can get it tuned up right and be able to kick some butt.
There’s a local company call DBR that I will probably take it to for tuning and Dyno.
Looking forward to the Lark build. As for dropping F bombs, I doesn't bother me in the least. You just do you and keep it real, Al. Why people have to be so uptight is beyond me. BTW, I don't normally drop them either but I imagine I probably have in one or more of my vids at some point. I won't ever censor myself for no one as this isn't network TV. If they can't accept that then they can move on to some other channel.
GET IT
Not bringing slag hammer?
Good car for dragster
You certainly have a full plate of work laid out; good luck!
Molarky... not another clunkerbaker. Put that gm stuff in the shredder where it belongs. Sounds interesting grafting the two together. Could almost do a dual purpose touring/drag with that suspension set up.
Grate project Bro at lease u have room in ur Garage 😆 🤣 😂
I like this. Original. LS swaps are just so common.
They're so common because they work so well. Small engine, big power. 💪 But this is different.
TEAM AL! ... Team MOPAR AL!
Lark will be an amazing build!
We got your back AL!
God Bless
😎
We need to get Calvin, Nivlac57, to bring his Lark for you to race.
I can't wait to see how you get the factory can bus system to work with the holley system.🧐 You know that Guage cluster is in it's own control module? That donor car is infested with modules..great ideas but you have a handful even with a stand alone system.
Not using pcm or dash cluster from the 300.. that’s why I’m using the terminator x for the engine and trans.
You will do well. Just do you though.
