A slower week in our lives means a hair appointment becomes content! It's not an episode of NFE if we aren't complimenting someone's hair. Caroline's bangs are refreshed, though her hands are wet and neck is aching. Nothing putting her dangly feet up and chatting with Jess can't fix.
The two shift gears and launch into an exploration of what manifestation does (and does not) mean to them. Too often does the internet rely on manifestation as the answer to all things - just announce you're a lucky girl and speak your dreams into reality! While Jess has had some "success" with certain elements of this philosophy, it's so much easier said in retrospect. Privilege and luck are companions to hard work and time in achieving pretty much anything, not to mention Jess's knack for hope and positivity and Caroline's preference for doubt and cynicism. That's right; both can work and have a place. We're a hater and a lover blah blah tropes.
That is until dating is the topic at hand, in which case any singular approach falls to the wayside as Caroline and Jess both lose all sense of self and stability. Has anyone figured this out?! How do you trust a charismatic bloke like Harry Styles and how did this conversation so quickly transition into owl pellet nostalgia?
In conclusion, a well-answered Hinge prompt is hard to come by. One could say they're seasonally dependent.

"Manifesting" is annoying af. I'm a huge proponent of believing in oneself and doing things to get to goals, but the whole *just* thinking it into existence without acknowledging how the sausage got made is irritating. Reminds me of a quote I apply to many mediocre dudes: "Some people are born on third base and think they hit a triple."
a hairdresser once put a folded towel in that neck spot of the sink to make it more comfy and now i ask for that all the time.

Hey! I've been watching Caroline for over a year for her content unrelated to interior design. I'm catching up on the pods now and loving them!

My mom is a recovering alcoholic who told me when she really started AA that she thinks EVERYONE should do the 12 steps and read the Big Book. She's also a retired psychiatric nurse. I wonder if either of you would ever consider taking a look at the Big Book and giving us your thoughts
This is in no way to suggest that either of you are addicts or alcoholics. I'm mostly thinking I should probably listen to my mother but want someone else to try it first! LOL

I completely agree about the neck pain of getting hair washed at the salon! My partner cuts my hair now so I haven't felt this pain in awhile thank goodness!

I bring a thick cushion (one of those outdoor patio ones) to the hairdresser so that I can tilt my head back comfortably. It works. And it's impervious to sprays from the water.
The owl pellets story reminds me of a time in primary school (UK) - I must have only been 5 or 6. We had stick insects as class pets and some of them had died. I have distinct fever dream like memories of the class then cutting them in half to see what they looked like inside (what), and with those rubbish kid safety scissors. I don't remember feeling that weird about it at the time but every time I think back.. what was the teacher thinking!! I just remain thankful that the goldfish Biff and Chip didn't pass whilst I was in that class, can you imagine.
Caroline screaming about privilege is in the most clear cut “how do you not understand this” way should be a national broadcast. It feels like the beyond scared straight lecture all those “but I worked hard!” bozos need 😂

My petty gift complaints. My entire personality, at least in terms of gift giving, can ABSOLUTELY be boiled down into nothing but books and chocolate.... YET SO MANY PEOPLE DON'T GET ME THOSE THINGS. 13:50 GIRLS. I had the same problem with the neck thing UNTIL recently when I went to this hairstylist ( this is in Lisbon sorry ). The hair-washing station looks the same (sink and neck "hole") BUT THEN they have a foamy rubber cube (like a pillow you know) where your head rests. It's magic, I love it and I can't shut up about it

it's one of the most painful things about editing the podcast. my ums are enormous. but very little gets cut from the YT video....our poor editor Abi probably spends 60% of her time removing my burps and ums
It’s not about how things happen. Saying “I’m so lucky” is just a mindset shift. Many people always complain about everything and anything but it’s just about remembering and being grateful for the things you do have. You are what you focus on so if you’re constantly talking about what’s going wrong that’s all you’re going to see but if you have a positive mindset, you will start to attract more good

Your looks are on point this episode 🤩😘. Owl pellets are vom not poopie 😅. I am again super glad I got coupled up and hitched before online dating was the thing to do. Sounds horrendous, I’d be a hermit. This lucky girl managed to find the one in the first year of University. Same course. Common interests make for great partnership. Your partner needs to be your friend as well - you’re gonna live with this person, and maybe create offspring together. You need to be ok with them doing small things in your home that you’d kill other people for doing #goingon20years

Speaking of poopie. My son’s first sentence, that happened last week, was “I pooey” and then proceeded to have his very first blow out. And then another one an hour later. Did I have more diapers and a second pair of pants after the first one? No, no I did not. Ok that is all, just wanted to share.

Caroline, I feel like you contradict yourself a lot. But maybe I just misunderstand where you're coming from a lot, and both things are true. Isn't there a video where you're talking to Elizabeth and she points out that you make gratitude lists or have a gratitude journal or something? And now you seem to be saying gratitude lists are dumb. Likewise, I remember you raving about the How I Made It podcast. My problem with it is that these people are always insisting they just work hard, leaving out their luck and their privilege. I can't get inspired by that podcast for that reason. I never know what your take is on things cause I always hear you say the opposite of what I thought you believed lol
