Fun Story: One time I walked into a knife shop and was just looking around. A man behind the counter noticed me browsing the glass display cases and very helpfully approached.
"Is that a Cold Steel AD-15 in your pocket?"he asked, nodding to the AD-15 indeed clipped in my pocket. I turned and responded, "No, I'm just very happy to see you." He rolled his eyes and turned back around, walking away. However, an older man behind the counter erupted into laughter and the two of us spent a very enjoyable quarter hour looking at and talking about knives😂
Long story short, I like the new segment name!

I used to conceal carry a colonel blades low vz. I don't think they're still being produced, but it was a pretty cool knife. You could carry it appendix style because it had a pistol grip style handle so there was no way anyone would know that you had a fixed blade on you.
I stopped carrying it, because you can produce a folder just as fast, and it doesn't draw weird stares as much when used for regular tasks in public. It still has a place on my backpack behind my ifak though. Love that knife.

For Tom’s question about a concealable fixed blade, please look at the Cold Steel Mini Tac Bowie. At less than $19, the 8Cr blade is stainless and thinner than the BK11, yet both slicier and stabbier than either the Sea Horse or the BK11. It’s plenty tough for whatever you might put a neck knife through and the sheath is streamlined for minimal printing through a shirt. It has lots of belly for food prep and for most chores. I wear mine every day and touch it up with a steel or strop. Ergos are great!

    Hi David (and Seth),
My first question was answered brilliantly, so here I go again! Hope you can help me out with another one similar to my 1st question:
I'm looking for a folding knife, with the following features:
    1) Flipper (that becomes a "guard")
    2) Axis or Similar Cross-Bar Lock (**MUST** be bank-vault, bomb-proof strong)
    3) Thumb Hole, either oval or round, doesn't matter, but **MUST** have it...
    4) About 3" or more Blade Length
    5) Pointy, not Wharncliffe, but needs some belly.
    6) Optional, but would be game-winning: Full Flat Grind, finger choil, assist or bearings in the pivot and Deep Carry Pocket Clip
    7) See if you can recommend me a budget and a premium version each.
    Thanks so much!

One knife that would fit the bill as unique, but it is no longer in production: the Kershaw E.T. (External Toggle). I purchased one at a Gun/Knife Show and the guy sold it to me for $20 because he couldn't sell them very easily because nobody could figure out the technique to open it. He said that if I could figure it out, he'd sell it to me cheap. Two attempts was all it took.

Hi David. My regular EDC for the past 15+ years was the CRKT Point Guard designed by Crawford. It's been an excellent small job workhorse for me, although it did need to be sharpened often to keep its edge. One of my favorite aspects of the knife was the LAWKS locking system. I'm in need of a new EDC now, and I'm looking for an upgrade that has a proven locking system. I'd like to find a solid flipper folder with a modified Wharncliffe or sheepsfoot blade - or perhaps a nessmuk - in the $150-$200 range. Thanks for any suggestions you may have, and keep up the great video content.

Hey DCA, about the Gill Hibben question:
As a gift, a few years ago, I recieved a Hibben design that is now part of my EDC.
The model name is Sidewinder. It's a 3.5 inch, full tang, 7Cr17 blade, with a shockingly comfortable grip.
I believe the scales are walnut, with an interesting liner, a couple of mosaic pins, lanyard hole, and brass bolsters.
It came with a leather, drop-in, sheath which is not quite as secure as I'd prefer, but will work while I'm in que for a custom one from my friend.
For the price M'lady paid, I'd say she picked up a real winner for me!
    Hope this helps ... 😜

Hey DCA & Seth! I was just watching this video talking about concealed fixed blades, great options you gave, but currently I'm trying to find a carry fixed blade for my picky BIL. He wants something pretty specific. A utilitarian knife for everyday tasks, but that he can carry concealed for self-defense purposes, horizontally in small-of-back (so probably something Tek-Lok-able?) Thing is... He's set on a tanto. I'd tried to lead him away from that, or at least open him up to the idea of a non-tanto blade, but he's determined. He wants something in the 4-ish" range, and under $100 would be best, if possible. I agree with Nate, nothing beats an OTF for fidget factor..side folding autos are pretty fun as well but not as much as the double action OTF...as for non-automatic knives the SOG Terminus XR is a lot of fun because it has 3 opening methods.you can open it with the flipper tab,the thumb stud or you can pull back the XR lock and wrist flick it.the XR lock is SOG’s version of the Benchmade AXIS lock so it also closes smoothly.mentioning the Benchmade AXIS lock it pretty much goes without saying, most of their knives are great fidget knives..I’ve always enjoyed the fidget ability of the Spyderco PM2,PM3,Shaman,etc..basically,if it has the compression lock and the Spydie hole,it’s gonna be fun to play with..can’t forget the push button locks either like the Pro-Tech Malibu or the newer versions of the Civivi Elementum w/push button lock

Can you recommend something similar but smaller, in the 2" blade length range. I have a coworker that loves using my knives but they are not a knife person so I would like to give them something smaller and simple to open and close (they haven't quite figured out a frame lock yet)?

What is the best way to attach a fixed blade (small or large) to the outside of a backpack? Not a military style pack with Molle attachments but a hiking or backpacking style pack.

Tops mil-spie 3, or an esee 3, both IWB carry, very concealable, capable enough, what I carry for fixed.

Question. Hey, DCA, I'm wondering what the best compound is to use on a leather strop. I find the white, green, and black polishing compounds difficult and a bit messy to use, and I wondered about trying a spay-on diamond emulsion. Your thoughts on the matter, and, if I purchase a diamond emulsion, any suggestions on brands or how many microns if I'm just buying one?

I once bought a lot of knives from a storage unit clerk for $85 it had several leathermans, a benchmade 940, and vintage Gil Hibbens late 60s skinning knife. I made a lot of money off that deal but do regret selling that hibbens knife (even though I sold it for $800)

I know this is a hard question for guys that love to talk knives

Hi DCA! I was looking for a rock solid knife with a good steel, a good lock sistem, thumb hole to flick it open with my middle finger, running on washers, with a for way reversable pocket clip and a blade shape capable to do some piercing. I obviously landed to the paramilitary 2 but i really don't like how it looks... can you suggest any alternative? You obviously don't need to be that specific😅

DCA, great QA session. 👍 What are your thoughts on knife pairings for EDC? Do you prefer multitool + small fixed blade OR swiss army knife + modern folder OR a different combination?

In discussing the Becker BK11 as a good neck knife, you mentioned stripping the black coating from the blade to improve its ability in slicing. I have been wanting a general use neck knife, and have wondered about the "food safety" aspect of the black coating on these knives. Because of this, I have only used non-coated knives for food prep. But I would really like to know if there is any evidence of any safety concerns when slicing foods, especially acidic fruits with a coated blade? And, if I were to buy the BK11, how would I go about removing the coating without damaging the blade?

Hey DCA! I am looking for a big tactical blade. Cannot be a dagger that is sharp on both sides, otherwise no limits. I like the Cold Steel Chaos Kukri, but it is a little heavy. I love the Cold Steel Spartan and and Espada XL, but they are folders. Anything in between maybe?

I am starting a new job where I'll be in maintenance. I was wondering what would be a good hard use knife for that. I have large hands, and like smaller fixed blades (the USMC Kabar is too big, but something like the LT Wright Next Gen looks about perfect for the handle, but I like a 3.5-4" blade). But for this job I'd like a folder that mimics that feel of that nice full handle, has a 3.5-4" strong drop or clip point blade, uses a strong lock like an axis, and has a super steel that would hold up to some abuse (light prying tasks like cutting zipties, manipulating wires, etc). I really like the sound of Magnacut steel, but it is only available in either the Hogue Deka or that Lionsteel hawkbill blade, and neither design seem very tough. Budget would be up to $200, but having a premium steel that can take and hold an edge while standing some abuse is top on the list.
Thanks. I love the videos, keep up the great work!

    Question for y’all:
I work in fine dinning and have noticed a growing trend amongst the chefs. All the chefs have their own knifes, most have a whole roll with several really nice knives. Which is normal. But in recent weeks everyone seems to be going out and buying an edc 2.5-3 inch fixed blade with a three finger grip, which has a thin blade stock and super slicey grinds. That way if your moving around from kitchen to kitchen you always have a usable little knife with you. What would be a good recommendation for this purpose?
