    This stitch is literally perfect for so many things: beanies, scarves, blankets, you can even try this on a purse and it’ll still look cute. Love the ribbed effect because it looks so professional

    For those of use that have a giant head, I measured my head at about 24 inches( I measured from the bass of my hairline in the back, to the start of it in the front, about where my beanie would rest all the way around) and chained 52 instead of 32 which made the beanie pretty snug on my head

      I just made this hat, love it so much! I think I have a average size head, but I found it tight on me as well. I wanted to make a hat for my dad, so I think I will try chain 52. How many rows did you do?

      @@pilot1844 because I was just crocheting this for me I wasn’t really counting rows, I just kept putting it up to my head lol, but I do know that every two rows I did was one inch and I used the same yarn in the video. So for 24inches I probably did around 45-48 rows

      Did you find that 52 chains was too long? I have a bigger head too so I chained 52. But now looking at it, I’m worried it’s way too long.

    Info for everyone who has an average sized head: while you chain the first row, grab a beanie that fits your head and make sure the height of your chain is right. 32 stitches turned out to be barely the size of a very snug benie of the person I'm doing this for WITHOUT even folding the bottom, and she's not an adult (she's 16). I had to frog everything.
    She says it's stretchy, which is true, but it won't stay stretched on your head, so measure everything before you start crocheting.

      It seems very intimidating when you first start but if you do a little test run of it you can easily make adjustment. If the amount of rows isn't enough for the circumference of your head but it's tall enough then just add more rows. If you feel like it may be too short then your foundation chain should be lengthened. This pattern seems to be in 4s so measure out about how much longer you need and add 4 stitches until you get that desired height. Since the foundation chain in 32 and you wanted to size up you would go 36 st, 40 st, 44 st, 48 st, 52 st etc...

    Love the texture! However, I do have a question. You say to “alternate rows 2 and 3” but I don’t see a difference between the two rows. It looks like both rows are single crochet herringbone BLO. Am I missing something? Thanks!

    • @dcalvert9897101
      @dcalvert9897101 Před 8 měsíci

      it's alternating simply because when you turn the beanie after starting a new row, you will either be doing the herringbone first into the SS at the end or starting the SS into herringbone. all rows are basically the same (stitching into the BLO all the way down-which she didn't mention BLO in the 3rd row of the pattern). it's just a matter of how you start that row based on if you are at the top of the hat or bottom. I hope that makes sense!

I am a visual learner so i need to see all the steps in order to know exactly what I am doing. Love how easy the tutorial is but the only thing im lost on is the alternating of rows 2 and 3

    • @dcalvert9897101
      @dcalvert9897101 Před 8 měsíci +1

      it's alternating simply because when you turn the beanie after starting a new row, you will either be doing the herringbone first into the SS at the end or starting the SS into herringbone. all rows are basically the same (stitching into the BLO all the way down-which she didn't mention BLO in the 3rd row of the pattern). it's just a matter of how you start that row based on if you are at the top of the hat or bottom. I hope that makes sense!

    • @aminastephaniecrawshaw4426
      @aminastephaniecrawshaw4426 Před 6 měsíci

      I felt the same confusion. A good close-up at the early stitches might be useful too. Perhaps there are other videos for beanies which use the same pattern that could be helpful to watch.
      I sometimes make a note of each row I've completed, so I remember what to do next, for each new row. I can be confused sometimes if I don't keep track. It does take a few attempts with a new stitch or project sometimes. Keep trying and you'll soon find your way and be back in your lovely relaxed crochet mode.
      The narrow end of the work (where the slip stitches are and eventually the bobble will be) is a clue to which row stitches you need to do. If the narrow/bobble end is on your right you slip stitch into the back loop of the first three stitches, then do a single crochet to continue with herringbone stitches to the end. When you reach that point, you will be at the wider end again, so no need for slip stitches to finish this end, just chain 1 and turn.
      Apart from the first row, whichever row you do (with or without 3 slip stitches) you will always be going into the back loops and finishing off the row with a chain 1 before turning. If, after you've turned, you feel lost, look to see if you're starting at the narrow end again (on your right) where the slip stitches are. If so, do 3 slip stitches, single crochet and continue with herringbone stitches to the end.
      I just completed three rows and made some notes so I was more sure of what was happening.
      It's a rather long explanation, but I hope it helps.

    • @fyi3696
      @fyi3696 Před 6 měsíci

      When she does the herringbone crochet, make sure the loop you insert into is the one furthest on the left that was previously on your hook.
      And when you then insert into the next stitch (the one immediately after the one you worked into, I was accidentally skipping this because everything was too tight) make sure you stop and yarn over before you go through the three loops on your hook.
      Also keep a looser tension, I had a similar issue, her yarn makes it hard to see what's going on.

    • @fyi3696
      @fyi3696 Před 6 měsíci

      Additionally, make sure you're not accidentally skipping the first and last slip stitches and the last stitches at the bottom of the hat. I missed a few and my row went down by one without noticing.
