Part of the motivation for trying to keep a top-level athlete to stay at his best is the threat that should you let up, just a little bit, there's somebody out there who's putting it the work (that you're not), and, when it comes down to it, IF given a choice between the two, a winner doesn't remain static, while everyone else is improving---a winner endeavors to maintain the advantage by constantly evaluating, and, where you can be improved, you make the improvement(s).

Jerry Krause was actually a really good GM....Put great teams around MJ and hired Phil, which translated to amazing success....But, his ego got so big and you're right, he couldn't get out of his own way. And, I STILL don't understand how Jerry Reinsdorf let Jerry Krause push Phil out the door and in essence, break up the Bulls. Can you imagine if Bob Meyers, the Warriors GM said publicly, a year from now, "It's been good with Steph and Steve Kerr, but yeah, it's time to move on from both...." He would be fired on the spot if he said some nonsense like that. I still can't believe Reinsdorf allowed Krause to break this dynasty up. Just wild.

I"m not even a Michael Jordan fan and this debate of who is better between Lebron and Jordan is laughable. Not because of the generation but because he had a supernatural effect on the game. It was his will. Lebron doesnt have that. He is a great player but Jordan's presence alone won games. You hear that Chicago Bulls introduction and the Bulls say Jordan's name (From NORTH CAROLINA!!) right before the game as a fan of the opposite team you already subsciously knew the game was over. Thats the difference. I hated Jordan. But I couldnt do a damn thing about it. And neither could the teams that played against him. It was like Mike Tyson. You knew it was trouble from jump. The consistency to dominate and dominate and dominate and dominate. Thats the difference man. Rodman and Scottie Pippen were right when they said that if Jordan played today, he would average 50 points a game. Because who's going to stop him today, in a league where hardly anyone plays defense? There's no hand checking or body checking. Then throw in the fact that the court has been spread so wide with all the 3 point shooting, Jordan would have had a field day. In the 90's many NBA teams had what were called "enforcers." These guys weren't on the floor because of their scoring prowess, these guys were goons, and they were there to intimidate and regulate the paint. That meant no easy dunks, layups or rebounds. They made opponents pay physically for every point they got in the paint. And then you had to deal with shutdown experts like Gary Payton out on the perimeter. Jordan played when the NBA was still a contact sport.
