The following method can be applied to segmented bowls, vases, urns, and other wood turning vessels. I had the idea to mix resin with wood turning via combining two areas that I am familiar with and then took it a step further when I became interested in the beauty of segmented bowls. What you see here was not taught to me, rather the result of trial and error of various methods to accomplish the final piece.

Walnut
Superclear 2.0 Liquid Glass Epoxy
Superclear Table Top Epoxy
Chill Fix Epoxy
Deft Gloss Spray Lacquer
Rupes Coarse Polish

I used a 1x8 tpi threaded piece that fits into my tailstock. I used a fast curing epoxy for glue-up. Chill Fix is the name of it.
Interested in your finishing process... What were your steps in the finishing that beautiful piece?
I used Deft Laquer spray. 20 coats, sanding in between with 400g, up to 3000g on the final coat, and then polishing with Rupes polish. Does that answer your question?
Love how this turned out. Is there a reason you didn't use a smaller mold with wood blanks in the middle for the resin disks? Seems like a lot of wasted resin.
Actually it wasn’t and I underestimated. Initially I wanted to do 3 squares, equally offset. I only had enough for 2. Each piece is 1/8” thick to fit in the 1/8” kerf from the saw blade. What I didn’t consider was that the saw blade would chew through and additional 1/8” of the resin. So for every strip I cut, it cost me 1/4”. What was left of that block was a thin piece not thick enough to get even one more strip off. Interesting observation though because I thought the same thing to begin with.

@@peteosco That was leftover from the bucket that I mixed the epoxy in for the strips on purpose so I could use it for a ring. It was just easier than trying to find a cylindrical mold.
