    Emerald urethane is incredible paint! My favorite off the shelf paint of any kind, especially when you get a nice mistint for $10

    I have gotten my time down to about 7-10 minutes per side. I apply the paint with a mini roller 3/8" nap, then finish stroke with a 2.5" brush. I do all the panels and wipe around each one with a wet rag as i go. Then i do the cross sections top to bottom, then left and right verticals. This method is good for beginners because you can take your time. As you get better you can go faster and faster. Using a mini roller to apply trim paint then brushing it out has really upped our finish quality and speed.

    Friendly Tip! I will paint that panel door in 55 second with a 6'' fabric whizz roller and 2 1/2 gooseneck brush to cut the bottom, if the door is hanging. I also use the same tools for a garage panel door. Cheers! The Gooseneck guy!

      I do not like the finish that a roller leaves on a grained door and that level of finish would not be acceptable on many of the jobs that I do. I use rollers for flat panel doors but never for a door that has a grain to it.

    I love your videos....This IS the best way to paint a 6 panel door. I have a question? I have to prime my doors before painting because they are enamel painted...I'd like to paint them with latex. Is this a good idea? Do I need to sand them? Advice?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před měsícem

      So there are a lot of options for trim paint. If you’re going with a 100% acrylic then I’d recommend giving the doors a scuff sand with 150 grit sandpaper. Do a little section with your trim paint and see if it’s forming a good bond. If the paint is not sticking then you may need to prime with something like fresh start from Benjamin Moore. You could also use a hybrid paint like emerald urethane from Sherwin Williams. That adheres to almost everything.

    I used that SW Emerald urethane enamel and it was very stinky, I couldn’t stay in the same area and my doors upstairs, I had to take them off their hinges and take them to my basement. But that method is awesome! Thanks

    I bought the Vegas brush and painted my interior door with Emerald, is it normal for the paint to dry fast as I’m painting? First time working with a soft bristle brush so definitely need more practice. I got to paint my door in 12 min tho

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Depends on conditions. I’m not sure if you’re using emerald urethane or regular emerald. Emerald urethane has a pretty long open time. Also, you may also want to try a corona cortez. That brush is quicker than the Vegas. I’ve been shifting my use of the Vegas brushes to specialty applications, because it paints quite a bit slower than the Cortez.

  • @number1pappy
    @number1pappy Před 11 měsíci

    Ive noticed you use a corona vegas brush. You have also recommended a corona cortez in the past. Wich one would you recommend for benjamin moore advance trim paint?? Thank you! 😊

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I’d go with the Vegas for sure. It’s my favorite for trim paint and especially the hybrids.

      @SuperVassarBrothers thank you so much! Sorry about asking on two different videos, but time was an issue, and I thought it increased my odds of an answer sooner. Anyways my wonderful wife noticed both brushes saved to our amazon cart account and went ahead and purchased both for me. Lol! Admittedly, I'm a cheapskate, and it drives her nuts. She said buying both was worth it to her to keep from seeing me go back and forth. She's not wrong! Lol! At the end of the day, they are only $20 bucks each ,give or take, and I'm going to use both of them, I'm quite sure. I was getting good results with my 3 inch premier Montauk and my 2 1/2 inch purdy. However, both were on the firm side. I'm hoping the corona vegas being on the soft side will give me even better results. I should have changed a long time ago ,especially considering it's your chosen brush. Thanks again! 😊

      Corona brushes are the best! We switched to them 15 years ago. Started with the Excalibur chinex brushes and now we use the Vegas for interior trim. Have you tried satin cabinet coat? That's our favorite interior paint. It's also urethane based. We switched from Advance because we kept getting drips and lace curtains, especially when humidity is high!

    • @SuperVassarBrothers

      Only if they’re visible from some vantage point in the house. There’s a better case for that for exterior doors.

  • @bryenlink
    @bryenlink Před 7 měsíci

    It looks like the door was already painted at one point. If it wasn't and it was a 6 pnl hollow core straight from the box store, would you prime it anyway even though they sell it as "primed"?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před 7 měsíci

      That door is factory primed so you can go straight over it with your finish paint. The only reason you’d want to prime it would be if you were doing a big color shift like painting it black.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hmmm, you have a case for rolling a flat panel door vertically, but if the door has a grain pattern and I’m brushing it then I’m following the grain pattern. Horizontal grain patterns get a horizontal stoke, at least when I do it.
