I graduated high school in 93. My friends and i used to go into our laundry room and pick up change that had fallen out of pockets and go to Taco Bell. Now you can see how this is possible. It was back when it didn't cost almost as much as a sit-down meal, and they used decent ingredients ( like real cheese- not nacho cheese on everything).
60 cents in '93 would be about 1.77 today, a hard shell taco is 1.70 right now. It's actually cheaper now, also nacho cheese is great.
Matinee is one of Joe Dante's best and most underrated films. I remember going to see it opening night in a vacant theater, and loving every minute of the film. If you haven't seen it, it's a wonderful coming of age story, mixed with a brilliant John Goodman performance as a William Castle style filmmaker who used theater gimmicks to liven up his B-Movies. The script by Charlie S. Haas (Gremlins 2) expertly mixes humor and emotion, and it's just an underappreciated film that is so much fun.
I loved this movie when i was a kid and i also learned about the Cuban missile crisis from this movie as well!
Luckily I've got it on Blu-Ray/DVD Dual Format of Matinee from Arrow Video in the UK
11:52 - "Shower to Shower will put a full chorus in your armpit"...Now that's a sales pitch!
I’ve been watching this channel since around 2012-2013 and always have teary eyes when these early 90’s commercials get added.
I’ve not had a good couple of years (not counting the pandemic) with the death of my Grandma and these clips take me back to being a kid and staying the weekend with my Grandparent’s and not worrying about anything except school. Thank you for being awesome and preserving these.
I NEED to know what happened when she took a big bite of that taco!!!
Chef Boyardee Main Meals- For something as simple as canned pasta, they sure knew how to make it very fancy, especially with the footage of the ingredients in the beginning of this commercial.
Little Caesar's- Those are some very talented dogs who can bark to the tune of "Wedding March" in this commercial.
I... think that was synthesized a-la Jingle Dogs. But that's just me! :p
3:11 sega genesis had the best commercials
0:01 - Hollywood Pictures was a division of the Walt Disney Studio, similar to Touchstone Pictures, where they could release movies outside of the family friendly market. Unfortunately, it got a reputation for putting out some clunkers over the years. Eventually, there came to be a saying in the industry. "If the movie starts with the sphinx (the studio logo), it's going to stink".
I like the guitarist who is in the Taco Bell commercials - he has some good taco tunes to sing along a party pack with!
6:43 - This was right around the time Keenen left "In Living Color" over butting heads with network executives about the show: censorship, wanting to be hands-on in the creative process when they weren't in the earlier seasons, and notably, syndication. He believed that re-airing episodes from the 1st season would lower the value of the show when syndication talks began after they hit 100 episodes. They aired them anyway and he left...the show nosedived right after (losing Damon after S3 started the fall, but this sped it up).
I swear in the sonic 2 commercial. it has a segment saying it could be used as a pooper scooper
Thursday nights were always the best in '93 with the Simpsons and Living Color later on! I forgot Ray Combs was in the Family Feud episode!
Key West was a good show from what I remember. The episodes are on YT, but in very poor quality.
A commercial block from my 8th birthday( well the first two commericals) uploaded on my 38th birthday.
Aspen extreme Started in my hometown of Brighton Michigan
You have the best collection of Fox (and Fox Kids) Golden Age material (commercials and bumpers, from 1990 to 1995) on CZcams.
Two things: The Sega Sonic commercial was really funny, I don't remember it. Two, I still use the same Gillette Sensor handle/razors shown in this commercial.
1. The cow Pepsi ad was actually directed by David Feiss.
2. National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1 was okay.
Aspen Extreme-The"Due South"guy takes a detour and goes north
Key West-the plot point of him winning the lottery was dropped by mid-season(he ended up losing all his winnings)
Sonic The Hedgehog 2-the current Sonic game Frontiers is somewhat okay
Class Of '96-"..and then he told me he was transferring to another college.."
Diet Coke-the surfing minister shouldve had his own television series
Snickers-washing cars in the rain..bad idea
America's Most Wanted-where's Wesley Snipes when you need him
Martin-"I LOVEDDEDID her!!!" that was a good 3 part episode(loved the cameos by Richard Pryor and Billy Dee Williams)
In Living Color-R.I.P Ray Combs
Wonderful!! Just wonderful!! Each video you post is simply outstanding!
4:18 OMG! Class of 96! My gf and I used to watch this all the time for the first and only season it was on.
Where does that version of John Goodman fall on the John Goodman alignment chart?
The character he played in Matinee was based on William Castle, who was a slightly eccentric film producer known for using crazy gimmicks for his movies:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Castle
"Chaotic Goodman" is my answer.
Ah. Bless.
I remember seeing the movie Matinee in the theater, never saw it again, have no idea why but I don't ever remember seeing previews for the show Class of '96 or Key west?
"Class of 96" = 17 episodes
"Key West" = 13 episodes
Not much reason to remember them.
Matinee is considered a forgotten masterpiece. 93% on RT.
Um, I was there and literally NOBODY remembers that first movie you showed. Nobody. Because it was a complete flop, probably.
Tom Everett-Scott was/is SO DAMNED FINE! 🥵
