Sneaky Ways All-Inclusive Resorts Get You To Spend Money

  • All-inclusive resorts seem great. You pay an up-front price, then you get to spend a week drinking on the beach, dining under palm trees, and relaxing next to the pool. It can even feel like you're saving money. And for those with a big appetite, that’s probably true. But for others, you could actually end up spending more.

Phurlamu Sherpa you realize that all inclusive resorts aren’t that expensive if you manage your money well. My parents are middle class and go to one every year. I’m in grad school and am able to afford to go to one every once in awhile. Really, do your homework.

This video could have been way shorter, just say: all-inclusive offers include only the things listed, there is just the requirement to read carefully what it is included.
Moreover I think that exploing the area where you're staying for vacation is quite obvious, so wheter you have an "all-inclusive" offer or not you will pay for everything outside of your hotel/village.
Prettu basic and normal stuff I'd say.

    • @Locutus

I agree. When I think of all inclusive, I think of food and drink (some alcohol), some activities. I don't expect a butler without paying for it in some way. Aside from the massive upcharge for exploring the area, most of these charges seem pretty reasonable to me and not too different from the cruise industry upcharge. Since I don't drink alcohol, I actually think I'd be pretty happy with an all-inclusive, especially an all-meals resort more to not have to think about than as a tool to save money. But I am glad to have an idea of what to budget for when I'm there especially in regards to gratuities since as a New Zealander I'm really not a customed to tipping.

I've only done an all-inclusive once, for a wedding near Cancun, and I was impressed with how few things actually cost extra. Only the things you'd expect were extra like scuba diving, massages, or excursions. Everything else, including asking for higher quality alcohol or going to the ala carte restaurants or room service, was included. Mind you this was a somewhat expensive resort for the area but I think it ended up being a fair value even though I left the resort nearly every day. Just the breakfast, dinner, alcohol, nice room, excellent pools, etc was worth the price. Not sure I'll ever do it again since I'm not really into relaxing at a resort for a vacation, but for those that do want that I'd recommend it.

    At arrival:
$5 to $10 tip for the bag
$10 at each of the bars you tend to frequent the first and second day (maybe in total $50)
Ask your cleaning lady when is her last day (They tend to work 21 days straight and 7 off) I give them 25 dollars in our last day. But if she says my last day is Wednesday then on Wednesday I’ll give her $15.
Butler service is always included in luxury stays, same with room service and alcohol in the fridge is always included no matter the status of your room.
Most All inclusive hotels include depending on how many days you stay a certain amount of dinners in different restaurants of your choosing if its a luxury restaurant you can book a restaurant for every day you stay ( Including: Lobster, Benihana style restaurant, fusion cusine etc etc) FOR FREE.
Alcohol: Luxury All inclusive include Premium Brand Alcohol with no charge. But if its not luxury is Bacardi, Jack Daniels, Red Label, sky Vodka etc.
Never book a tour online. Your travel agency has a company in the lobby. Most prices can be changed for example going in a Catamaran: Food, alcohol, snorkel etc can be $150-190 p/p but with your agent in the lobby and person In charged from your travel agency you can get it at 60 p/p or even less if you are with 5 people or more.
Traveling is very easy if you know how to do it.
For us its an adventure and we get our moneys worth every time.
Business insider: This video isn’t 50% truth.
PS: Who books a romantic dinner at the beach for $50 to $100 p/p NOONE DOES. It isn’t romantic at all, food gets cold quickly, there is a lot of wind and you feel very sticky at the end.
We can go all day on this subject. Need help traveling just contact me.

Would love to know where you have been, what were pros and cons of each place, what were the catches, what are the dangers at that resort or place, and most importantly is how to get the best deals. The best time to travel its in September and October, go to google flights, hopper and orbits and establish a date and destination ( they will email you when prices are going down), finding CZcams videos help for tourist destinations, site seeing and reviews ( sometimes in video people tell you about prices).

Additionally, some tour packages are more expensive than others (and they feature the same places) so do your research before purchasing a tour package. Check the front desk or our online yellow pages for Tour agencies. You're welcome :)

Gosh it sounds so expensive. As a local balinese person, come to Bali! It’s very cheap (and very beautiful here). Yes, the plane fee is expensive, but once you’re in Bali, it’s not that expensive at all! 5 star hotels can cost you around 60-80$ a night, and the all-inclusive ones don’t cost thousands, starts at 150$/900$ per week. And food is just so good and cheap here, we’re talking about 2-3dollars per meal. Now, yes, there are tourist traps, but tourist traps are all over the world. So if you travel wisely, you’ll have a great experience here.

Generally speaking I found most all-inclusives in Mexico to be pretty upfront about what's add on, etc. And from a drink and food standpoint, always been able to find good options in great surplus quantity. A few, like the palace resorts in Cancun, offer resort credit that can be used but you will still pay taxes on the listed total. Once again if you read most fine print it's clearly stated...

Sandals doesn't cater to guests pinching dollars. the lower end all inclusives are better deals. Basic hotels in the US charge $100-200/pn and everything other than the complimentary breakfast is $$$$

I watched a tv programme a while back. It compared two families, one all-inclusive, one who arranged everything themselves. For the basics, the all-inclusive was cheaper, and even with extras the all-inclusive was cheaper than arranging the same activities yourself. This was because the all-inclusive resort had arrangements with various businesses, so even off resort you will get discounts. For one evening, the families swapped. Both said food was similar in and out of the all-inclusive resort, but more expensive outside. The all-inclusive had clubs for adults and also children's entertainment that cost more outside.
I think the main point here is that you should expect the all-inclusive to be more expensive than you expect, but that even if you do not avail yourself of everything, it will still be cheaper than an almost identical holiday you organise yourself.
Personally though, I save most money, I haven't been on holiday since 2007, and that was for just two nights...and I resented every penny I spent 😀

Just read everything before booking to make sure all the activities you want to do while vacationing are included or if you're ok paying a fee to do them. Better yet, call a travel agent! Most agents take webinars and courses on resorts and chains so we know the details of what's included and what's not included. You may pay a small fee to book through an agent, but you're not paying their commission typically unless you're working with a greedy agency. We get paid commission without having to charge the customer extra. We only charge a fee for flights booked which is minimal at $35 per person. With that, our customers get access to 24/7/365 service after hours and the days we're closed. SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES!!!!!

If you are going to a lower end resort, it is easy to go to and not spend any money at all. The only time I end up paying is when I decide to take a bus ride from the resort to their closest city to explore a bit but that is optional.

The non-smoking section was always closed. The restaurant had minimal hours. The service was rude. Basically it was just the opposite of luxury/quality. We ended up leaving the property for meals but that was hard bc we knew we had already paid for meals and now we had to add the cost of a cab to everything. I’ve never gone to another all-inc since.
