Priester was great last night, he has gained so much confidence since last season. If he could step in and be consistent as our 5th starter it would be huge for this team.
if he can pitch even half that we'll, he'll be a lift until jones gets back
Suwinski's new swing is the sweetest of all! Go Bucs!
Haines still blows.
Agreed.
Tellez saying, "I decided to go back to my original swing." And the Hayes debacle with Robert Nunnally last year should be enough to make the decision to part ways at the end of this season.
@ram76921 I wish that were true. If Cruz, Hayes, and Tellez going outside of the clubhouse to turn their seasons around three years straight respectively isn't getting him shown the door by now, I'm afraid nothing will. Nutting doesn't care enough to make moves himself.
As does Shelton
@@sikwilly45
His contract runs out this year. He won't get a new one.
Nutting cares. He just doesn't know what he's doing. And, he knows it. He asked for help before, in fact. The Connelly/Huntington regime was hired because Nutting asked MLB for help. Connely, himself, came from MLB headquarters. Bob Nutting is too cheap, risk-adverse, and hands-off, for sure. But, it's untrue and unfair to say Nutting doesn't care.
Nutting isn't the greedy Mr. Burns so many people think he is. He would make much, much, much more money if the team was winning. Unfortunately, the economics of MLB make it impossible for a person with Nutting's risk adverse nature to succeed. Yes, he should sell the team to someone who is willing to take on a little more risk and hopefully a little more reward. But, the real enemy here is the MLB and MLBPA and they always will be until they institute a salary cap and floor.
Ok, 12-2, question now is will the bats go MIA the next two games? Stay tuned!
Can Skenes keep the Brewers to under 2 ERA through six tomorrow?
Your enthusiasm and genuine excitement is refreshing. Revenge served 20 years cold...
Killer channel!!!! Keep up the great work!!! I think our Pirates are Bad ass!!! They just need to find that fire inside and tear it out and wear it everyday!!! I Window Clean, very dangerous job but I wouldn't he able to do it without that fire. Love you guys!!! Stay BadAss!!! GO BUCS!!!!❤❤❤
Hey DK. I follow you each day from Australia. Really appreciate you insightful comments. Miss baseball, but you do a great job in compensating.
Thanks, mate! - Dejan
😂That had to be tough DK. Even a picture of Tellez! Bravo
What was tough? - Dejan
Dk I was thinking to myself that I’ve been liking the teams approach at the plate better over the last two weeks. Glad to see it pay off sporadically. We need more consistency and production but I can feel what you’re getting at
I loved hearing the enthusiasm in DK's voice in this episode. That enthusiasm resonates because I've occasionally experienced enthusiasm about this Pirates team this season, but far too infrequently.
What was making many Pirate games unwatchable for me was seeing the stark contrast between the innate talent on offense that's generally been expressed (i.e. Reynolds, Gonzales, and Joe early on), and the innate talent on offense that was mostly unexpressed or somehow encumbered (i.e. Cruz, Suwinski, Tellez) until the last few to several weeks. I still have hope for Hayes, and Palacios and Bart are now contributing. What if the Pirates offense keeps producing more consistently going forward? Their confidence level seems to be somewhat high right now, which is such a surprise to me (I do watch the postgame interviews after a Pirates win even when I don't watch the game). Reynolds said something in the past few days about the team trying to work toward being in the playoff mix this season. In contrast, for a good part of the season, the offense as a whole visibly lacked ANY confidence at the plate or even frequently on the field, to the point of looking completely lost at times. Only the Pirates pitching staff (especially the starters, Holderman, and Bednar) seemed to appear to possess a certain level consistent confidence during games.
Something seems to have (perhaps?) changed for this team somewhat suddenly, but it's difficult to get a read on the situation. Can these recent surges on offense actually be sustainable to some degree? The offense did seem to respond to a "Skenes bump" after he joined the team, but then it was suddenly providing very little run support, which wouldn't have taken very much offense at all. I also wonder if there could be a bit of an "All-Star bump" currently going on as well. It does appear to me, however, that the players might be intentionally trying to establish a more solid team identity (to a visible degree) at the present moment.
I like this Pirates team very much in terms of its existing talent, its overall potential, and the players' personal character in general. Even when the players appear more confident during specific games, they're never outwardly arrogant like a few other MLB teams (including one in the NL Central that also currently has a losing record). If the Pirate players as a group want to contend this year, and they now confidently believe they CAN contend if they can stabilize their offense and also continue to work hard on cleaning up their defense, this season could start looking a lot different in the very near future. My biggest fear, of course, is that the FO will predictably not do enough in 2024 to support the players' playoff goal this season-- because as management sees it, "there's always NEXT YEAR."
Stay confident.
Go Pirates.
Oh lest I forget Retread coaches like Haines , baines, and rains gives me stomach pains
Hope the bats keep hitting DK. It's time to fill in the gaps. Bring in another one ! I 'm all for it. Thank you DK awesome
Ever since you said "big deal tellez has started hitting, he's here to hit Homers and only has 2"... the guy hits a homerun every third game now. I think he listens to your show!
any time they do well, it feels like an anvil will fall out of the sky.
Star the course, buccos. Keep grinding.
Knowing what happens - normally - in Milwaukie, I didn't rush home to put the game on. Boy did I miss out on a lot of bats!
I have hope that this team can pull it together more in the second half
This offense reminds me of having chipotle delivered to your house. Sometimes a burrito shows up and it can hardly be contained by the shell. Other times the exact same burrito shows up and it’s barely a meal. Perplexing
Suwinski in the month of July: .330/.360/.750 with 206 wRC+
Small sample size but lately you see him driving the ball and making solid contact much more frequently than he was.
@@stevej.1428 Oh I agree 100%. I'm just saying that the turn-around seems to be backed up by what we can see him doing and by what we're hearing about his new swing. To borrow a phrase DK used for Tellez, "even his outs look good". He's having better ABs and even when he flies out, he's still hitting the ball hard, and doing that consistently tends to lead to good results. I don't think he hits with a .1110 OPS for the rest of the season because that would be insane. But I think he at least may have figured out a way out of the massive slump he was in.
Could use a first name with this one! For a Q! - Dejan
The thing I noticed is these improvements seem to be sustainable for each player over time, so regression back to the mean will not be as likely as a gradual improvement in baseline performance over the rest of the season.
Reynolds has the personality equal to a blank piece of paper, dude show some emotion.. again, Tellez said he went back to his old swing his dad has given him tips, Jack still needs to hit more, at least he is showing signs of life..
38 runs in 5 games 🙌🏻 🧹
Suwinski was headed to second before his ball landed.
DK I don't know what's going but its a thing of beauty. CONSISTENCY is the key. I don't know why they can't do this the rest of the season. Keep Bart as your main catcher release Grandal and call up Davis.
I wish it wasn’t true, but rowdy still has a ways to go. He is currently running the best babip of his career (by a significant amount) and is STILL a below league average hitter (looks far worse when you line him up against other 1B) with well below avg defensive metrics.
Buy or sell: the Pirates will be .500 at the all star break?
They have a philosophy and they are sticking to it
DK until this teams performs in situational hitting ie RISP and 2 out RBI hitting they will struggle. You said it yourself who is playing center and right everyday ? Can Hayes stay healthy and can Cruz put it all together on an everyday basis ??? At the end of the day they are STILL the same old Pirates
Let’s look at these two teams. The brewers are not a better team then why do they have a better record ? Must be the manager must be not having to Toss out minor leaguers who were on waivers the day before
Lastly. Let me thank you for changing the pitching schedule so that my 400 Mile ride to see skenes won’t happen. I’m sending the bill to Shelton pert Kelton and bill melton maybe Fred Felton
Dont forget to stop for ice cream and potty breaks😊
All they need to do is to put the ball in play to move base runners over as opposed to striking out or popping up. Way too many missed opportunities and stranded runners. Bunt the ball unless MAT is at the plate.
My issue with KeBryan Hayes is he doesn't hustle out his ground balls. He almost cost himself a hit a few games ago with a poor attitude and clear complacency.
@stevej.1428 a piss poor attitude and lack of engagement can be toxic to other teammates. When you watch palacios and Gonzales hustle down the line, it sets an example and gives a positive vibe. His at bats are a larger problem and he needs some adjustment to his approach without a doubt, but attitude is infectious. One way or another.
I've said all year this is a talented team with hitters that should be better than they are. Besides players going outside the organization to find real help has anyone else noticed guys like MAT or olivares or even Bart who come from other organizations and hit when they get here only to fall off a cliff after a few weeks and heck guys that come up from AAA and hit for awhile then fall off a cliff? Anyway whats my point? Andy by god Haines is worthless as a hitting coach why is he still employed by the Pirates and not off running his own prefab statue company where his true calling lies!!??
Winning a game by a touchdown doesn't mean anything if you drop the next two. Especially when you're wasting quality starts from your pitchers.
I hope they didn't hit all their hits for the series last night
