One of the most beautiful cars ever built.
It was a nice looking car. Too bad it's also the kind of car you couldn't drive if you were over 5'7".
Yea, its definitely in my top 200 at least.. ;)
60's Ferrari, alfa Romeo's are one of the most beautiful cars ecer made.
@@DTD110865 "Too bad it's also the kind of car you couldn't drive if you were over 5'7"."
That's fine for me, I'm 5'6" 🙂
I will never be able to afford one though, so it's a bit of a moot point!
@@zayedwakarshaan2453 Many of those are also very beautiful.
When your KIT CAR starts off with a Ferrari Donor... You know you have something.
Only Top Gear proved it was just as likely to break down as original Lancers... Jeremy Clarkson could barely get a lap out of it
It's how I made my Pontiac Fiero replica.
I guess Im randomly asking but does someone know a tool to get back into an instagram account??
I stupidly forgot the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Amos Zahir Instablaster =)
@Archie Tyson Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process now.
Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
The Stratos has to be one of the most instantly recognisable cars in history and for good reason. It looks sensational with performance to match. What's not to love?
The price tag?
That modern Stratos is pure sexy on 4 tires... I remember when it came out and I freaked. That thing is stunning even now. Ferrari can be so jealous...
That modern Stratos is a disgrace!
@@Makku293 no it's not
@@sabyasachiroy7482 ha if u consider the price
gola kata daam bhai
Lister Bell makes a Stratos kit that uses Alfa parts and is amazing. Looks identical and it also a fantastic driving car. The MAT car is a stunner but that price of +500k € plus the sonar 430 or Scud I’m afraid only a tiny few will be made. I’d love to own one though
Is more about protecting their own brand and reputation but, yeah, certain moves can be that silly though.
They have done the same to many many things they considered "violations of the brand", including black-listing consumers in the process. Starting from people that over-stretched Ferrari berlinettas to convert them into limousines to famous people who had the idea of uploading a pic of their Ferrari putting a couple knickers over them in Instagram. Passing through the most infamous case, The alknown "Purrari" of DeadMaus, which lead McLaren to gift him a car customized with the same motifs of that Ferrari with Nyancat vinyls as a result.
Stratos is one of the coolest cars ever made. i've loved since i was about 5.
The stratos concept car was my first ever jaw drop moment when it came to automobiles. Just stunning, even now!
Baran Blyat Me too, especially the one with Italian airlines graphics on it.
Aw man, right in the childhood! That Lancia Stratos with the Alitalia rally livery!
Such a sexy aggressive little pipsqueak of a car!
Totally impractical.
Totally brilliant!
3 of my top favourite cars are Ferrari 246, Lancia Stratos, & Fiat X1/9
Has to be one of the most distinctive and aggressive designs that I have ever seen. I love the Stratos. Great upload, thank you.
I´d take a Stratos (old or new) over any Ferrari. Love the Bertone concepts of the 70s too, despite the all-too-brown colour of the Sibilo.
Thanks to the legendary maestro designer Marcello Gandini. He designed the cars for Bertone since the Miura until the end of 70s I think, then, Marc Dechamps took over. Gandini is also responsible for the gorgeous Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale too!!!
Ahh yes ! The Stratos - Graham Warner - The Chequered Flag - Donegal 1977 - Billy Coleman - All individual legends but put them all together and you have the big one ! Thanks for keeping this car front and centre ! What a great story!!
Even 50 years later the prototype looks more futuristic and stylish than most current supercars since 2000.
O yes the Stratos , i love this keep up the nice work.
Thanks, will do!
It must take a fair amount of work for these videos. I always come away feeling smarter(or at least that I’ve learned something🤔). Good work.
In this case I went down a rabbit warren, so more time spent on this than normal Short Stories.
some info is going from 72 to 83 ,then the beta-engine ,etc. wich one the montecarlo and which engine of wich model a bit confusing then today´s newer stratos release in the midle of mid 70´s cars no story about achievements, they rulled the rally ,no other car was more desired ,the contauch with every modification through more than 10 years didn´t make it driveable much less winer of rally competitions and some important models forgoten in the way ,excessive concept car expended time, well just a sallad of not knowing about a car and all others inbetween
9:09 Cougar-magnet.
😂
Once again, You've been a great CZcams video maker. I've always loved this car, had one as a child in the 70s. Played with it to death, vs my porche 911. My Lancia always won the races.
Thanks again Mr Big Car.
Nico from Trinidad and Tobago.
I witnessed one of these in full championship anger. From my vantage point on a road side ditch, it frightened the living day lights out of me. The application of power, speed and sound on that narrow lane still strikes awe in me to this day. The pure madness of the 70s.
To drive the Stratos was an art. Its nose never pointed in the direction of the road, and it's wheels never semed to spin at the same speed of the car. The pilots remember that it seemed to never behave the same way in two consecutive turns. It was the evil clown of the supercars.
Such an underrated channel. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
This was every kids wet dream growing up in the 70's & 80's. Thanks for this.
Thank you, these are always the best :D
I been waiting for this one. Thank you for the video!
Great! One of the most legendary rallying cars
Super special episode. I was a proud owner of a 1974 FIAT Spider , then almost bought an X19 when they were released but didn’t. Interesting and well presented, thanks from Orlando
Love a lot of Gandini's work and the Stratos remains my favorite. They are so tiny in person it feels like you could tuck it under your arm and walk off with it.
This time you hit my heart... One of my childhood dream cars and the third plastic model i glued together after a corvette stingray and a Porche 911! My dad sprayed it 🇮🇹 to improve the look, because I wanted it more realistic! Unfortunately i lost the Porsche and the Corvette by accidents, but the stratos survived! Thanks again for preparing your clips like you do! TC D/A/G
Your docos should be on TV, damn fine work my man.
Great story! I had a pleasure of seeing many Stratos cars, and was lucky enough to lay my eyes on the Stratos Zero couple times! What a stunning piece of design. And it is even smaller in the real life than You would imagine.
Stratos has always been one of my favourite cars since i was 3 years old. Great vid thanks!!
One of my favorite cars of the 70s!!
A fabulous car. Thanks so much for the full story1
one of my all-time favorite
Really interesting. Thanks for putting this out 👍
One of my fav car designs, thanks!
One of the most important and interesting cars ever
Please, soon, a long story on the X 1/9.
Owend one in the past....still feel pity its gone . ( demolished by a German in a Beemer 323i..on the Autobahn near Werl on the A44. Probably he didn't like the rear of my blue arrow...and smashed into it. Grrrr
@@The-Rectifier I have owned 5 and a half of them.... still have many parts laying around. :)
My X1/9 made my life miserable :)
Bought an X1/9 because I loved the Stratos lol
it´s a car that when it came out i didn´t bought it because i had spent a lot in a VWporshe from 72 that in magazines the advertisement showed the vwporshe or later called porshe 914 but having vw all over the car and engine people use to hide the vw badge with a porshe badge on top but the first version was incredible good looking with a large strip of chrome following the litle grills for the bumper headlights ,but they said why spending a lot on this ,The VWporshe ,when you can buy for (much less)....a fiat x1/9 but they show a vwporshe in the picture maybe because of that, they didn´t sold more and people just went to buy the VWporshe or porshe 914 how it´s known today, they hide all the vw in the car but it´s in the engine, regards
9:06 I just accidentally spat my beer out all over my iPad 🤣
Amazing sounding rally cars though.
Just found the channel. Nice work. Love the Stratos. :)
I've always been a sucker for the low, sharply edged, wedge shape with an agressive stance and pop up headlights - the Stratos, Pantera, Fiat X/19, Opel GT, Lotus Esprit, Countach, Diablo, Jaguar XJ220, Mclaren F1 and even my personal favorite the Triumph TR8 -these cars throw convention to.the wind and are admittedly polarizing but they have a certain presence that's hard to ignore.
Great video as always, don't forget the chief engineer Nicola Materazzi who was responsible for the mechanical aspect. He later went on to do the EB110 and F40. He passed away just a couple of months ago.
Thoroughly enjoyable video, as always! I wish they'd have truly mass produced this car, even with Fiat C1/9 running gear, simply for the looks.
Excellent video as always!
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees, I love Lancias :)
Make Lancia great again.
Yet another awesome video!
This awesome design looks fast even stood still.
Another awesome video. I've heard of the Lancia Stratos, and I've seen pics of the car. But for some reason, I've never seen one in person.
Because they're niche as hell lol. If you go to Goodwood festival of Speed or Italian car festival at Brands Hatch, you'll see them. Hope this helps.

Always loved Lancias. Once owned a Trevi. Not terribly reliable, but great when it did go. Another great video. Thanks.
I like sports cars, but... My favorite Lancia is a third generation Delta. The modern one. Not sporty, but the best looking C-segment car in decades. Would love a video on that.
Being from the US, I have never even see one in person. I had a toy "matchbox car" version of the Stratos in the late 70s and it captivated me. I've always been in love with it, despite never seeing one other than here or TV. Thanks for the story of this beauty!
Here's one from TV:

You're very confident and serious.

OMG , How much do i love this car.!!
my second favorite lancia my first being the delta

People say you can't be a petrolhead until you are on at least your second Alfa - well I would see your Alfa and raise you a Lancia (and in particular a Beta HPE) for real commitment to classic motoring - I had a Dino for a while - same engine as Stratos - broke down constantly!! Subbed and liked - more please - good stuff
Loved this car since my dad brought me back a model from the '79 Lombard RAC Rally
I got my toy car Stratos when I was 5yrs old back in 1979 and to this day I think it's one of the coolest car ever
I love it!
when i was a kid in the early 80s, my dad bought me a toy version. ive been a fanatic ever since. where i grew up, in new york, the only rally car we knew of was the general lee dodge charger. we didnt think the lancia stratos was a real car, due to its radical design. sadly, i only got to play with that toy once, due to getting it wedged under an industrial washing machine. ive bedn obsessed with the stratos since that day.
We saw the prototype at the Peterson Museum in Los Angeles. It is out of this world, as in an alien in the automotive industry. It reminded me a little of the Maserati Boomerang with its steering wheel design. Imagine what that car could have done with a Maserati V8!
Congrats, Mr. Big Car :-) You are the greatest geek ever. Weeeee..... :-)
Wow; what a story !
That car looks fresh today. A masterpiece!
Bravissimo. Great all over view of history and Stratos facts, short snd on point. Like always, another great video, which in this case csn't be valued positively enough, as most fans and "experts" of those kknd of italisn cars or brands, tent to loose theyrself in wrong history parts of car model and brand. Which is I value your effort to hold the hustory short but clean and clear. Well done.
You should be on Discovery channel instead of those "artificial US" products DC is showing us repeatately. Your information is so interesting! Keep informing the real car enthousiasts!
My next Lego friends Covid project - err for my daughter of course! 😂
I thing a cheap low cost car with similar performance in suspention balance was the Fiat X 1/9. Middle engine, no over steering, no under steering. A friend of mine had one and he took me for a ride. Pushing the car to the limits around a curve, the car starts to slide like a surfboard with no over or under steering, perfectly controlable with the gas throttle. Lancia Stratos is an Icon, the evolution of his 6 cylinder Ferrari engine is still installed in Masserati cars today.
Looks great in RED!
Tack!
Tack!
The Stratos Zero prototype is one of my all-time favorites!
They were always very racy looking cars, but I can only imagine what the cockpit was like in summer, unless it had one heck of an air conditioner
Sar, no air, no power brakes, no power steering...a rally car.
I was thinking how similar the prototype was, in looks ,to the Dome Zero . Very interesting as usual, thanks 👍
Have a look at the Holden Hurricane from 1968
My favorite Rally cars, Stratos and 037B
0:16 I just saw the same model (or was it an alfa Romeo) few days ago on the road, despite being decades old, it was still a sporty looking red coupe, can't imagine how much the glitz and glam the model would have gained when it was first launched
My favorite Lancia of all time is the Lancia Thesis!
another great video! thank you.....now...more Fords!! :)
Thank you. I have a real weakness for Lancia, even in their “quirkiest” moments. I’m an American now living in Italy, and though Ferrari is their car, I tell them I love Lancia more, and the Stratos is my absolute favorite car ever made.
Always loved the concept cars from the late 60's and early 70's, not very practical but very cool.
The Stratos was ahead of it's time, like a 70's version of the Ford RS 200.
Lancia... My dream car-s......❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
saw one on person in athens greece ferrari dealership when i was 16. what an experience.
Great coverage. Love the report. One of my favorite cars. Did you ever do anything on the Yugo,? I know that's a piece of crap car but I owned one and has some interesting ties to the Fiat 128 and x1/9
Another fun fact: while the Stratos was extremely successful in rallying, Lancia dealers had a hard time selling the street legal version. In the end, some Stratos went for as little as 15.000 DM (around 1980), and even that discount hadn't created a real run on this rallying tool barely tamed for the road.
Guess we need more crystal balls, because who had thought that the Stratos would become one of the most sought vehicles achieving prices of more than 200.000€ today?
Who doesn’t love the stratos or who wouldn’t want one 👍👍😍😍

I took a look at the Wikipedia article, but it’s a little boring.
@@BigCar2 hhhmm, The black cab has always interrested me, but if its a boring story, then we dont need it :D
Very exotic car. Absolutely disgustingly filthy expensive these days. I'd nickname it the nasty little sporty Ferarri that Ferarri never made. A roaring little beautiful monster indeed 😘
Back when tires had sidewalls, a two seater sportscar had a spare tire, a V6 and an almost 90L fuel tank and still weight less than 1000kg.
Today the lighter sportcars like the Alpine A110 or the Lotus Elise have no space for a spare tire, a quite small fuel tank, a 4 cylinder and are not smaller or lighter than the Stratos, and their engines can't compete in the sound departement either.
The Alfa Romeo 4C, that had been built to be the lightest possible, has around the same weight of the Lancia Beta Montecarlo/Scorpion, that was intended to be quite a luxury sportscar with comfortable interiors.
Lancia cars are very good. I drove one in the 90s.
Pretty gnarly Rally car...
Frankly the most amazing thing about the Stratos was the sound. All rallyecars were loud but this thing was something else. It sounded like it was gargling chainsaws.
