The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

The Reason was because the DVD's showing for the very first time Elvis in glorious b&w Picture Quality on some of the Elvis' Ed Sullivan Shows, plus the rest of the Music on the rest DVD Discs isn't that bad😉

What's really weird is that I was just watching the Young Americans on Hollywood Palace last night singing with Bing Crosby, so at first I thought this was a Hollywood Palace video. I also thought there wasn't any "Bye Bye Birdie" connection here at first, until I saw that "Put on a Happy Face" is included in this medley, so this video just barely carries on the consecutive "Bye Bye Birdie" tribute on this channel; the sixth video in a row leading up to the anniversary of the premiere of the movie (April 4th, 1963).

actually, it was kind of hard to imagine it at the time....this was 1968 RFK, MLK assassinated, war in Viet Nam at it's height, counter culture in full swing... sorry, this was an anomaly not a artifact of it's time.

Curious medley that includes short fragments of many songs, from the best known from the Sound of Music soundtrack and Mary Poppins (Climb every mountain and Spoonful of sugar), to Petula Clarke (Round every corner), or the Broadway musical Do, Re, Mi, Make some happy, which was also popularized by Joe Durante, and a version of a rather old song (1929) like Keep your sunnyside up, by the Kentucky Serenaders by Jonnhy Hamp... Anyway, picturesque... Today The Young Americans continue to do philanthropy for the performing arts and music, providing opportunities and training for young artists...
