Will we see China do well in a World Cup by 2050?
P.S My camera died at the end, but the match finished 1-1!

I think China could possibly make it to the world cup by 2150. And get knocked out in the first round or second round. 🤣🤣

Impossible to allow teams to own stadiums to collect tickets, that's one of the big problems holding back professionalism

Thanks to the fall of Chinese football teams, the Chinese kids can stay away from football. This is a good thing. Children have limited experience and should not invest too much energy in these insignificant entertainment items, which will not benefit the future of the nation. I personally think that European countries put too much emphasis on football which lead to their downfall. Football is the kind of entertainment to watch only. 娱乐项目,喜欢看看就好。

Football was more popular in early 1970s in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, especially in elementary schools. Many small soccer fields were built in elementary school yards for 7 vs 7 game l.

It's very hard to put your finger on it.
You have made some valid points but, like you said, it's probably more complicated than that.
The culture for a start might have played a part in the psyche. In China there are traditionally very few contact sports, not like you also have rugby in the UK & American football in the states, and I guess people just don't have the same kind of passion for them. They like watching them as entertainment, but to make a respectable living out of them is another story.
And many don't see football as a viable way to get out of poverty or become a national hero like they do in countries (such as South America) where football is the only mainstream contact sport.
Development from the grassroot level or from young age also seem to be deficient. As you mentioned, a lot of big teams were bought, or assembled, not built. So there is no continuity.

It may help if the ASIA countries set up an ASIA club cup similar to the European-style Europa Cup. The best club in China v the best club in ASIA. That would be exciting.

There is a lack of talents even at grassroot level. Schools are one of the big sources of young and potential talent are not playing its role. Only if u see China U12 U15 U18 U19 or U21 winning tournaments and qualified at the youth level thrn u will see progress. At the moment there is no flicker....even at Asian youth tournament you dont see any promise. Until there is a structural change n effort that goes into development of youth programs, i dont see any direction towards the improvement of football in China. Perhaps, the education, sports and labor ministry should appoint professional people to undertake these projects, and not the perceived corrupted Chinese Football Association, only interested in short term gains n pleasing the provincial governors

It's rather odd to see Chinese soccer fans cheering on imported star players, since soccer is a game often tied to nationalism. Soccer is competing in a market of entertaining sporting events, as a revenue generating business. Tough competitions. University matriculation exams is another competing factor.
