    Would really love to see how mortal Slaanesh interacts with the new summoning system. I think spreading out chip damage from MSU blissbarb seekers and archers will really quickly rack up the Depravity Points! I think in many ways the army plays very safe and rangy in the first turn(s), then summons its support units from turn 2 onwards where necessary and plays the late game summon for easy captures.

    So wait, in AoS you can fire at units engaged in close combat? You can fire through large models? What is line of sight in this game?

    • @Idrabac
      @Idrabac Před 3 lety +3

      basically, if your unit is not behind a wall it can be shoot if it's within range. Shooting can be done in meele but only on your own turn just like the hero phase. Also If your unit is in close combat ( 1" within enemy units) it has to fire into those units. As you can see in the battlerep, shooting twice with this many buffs and range can cost the enemy 500pts in the first round without a melee combat phase and is completely broken. If Luca had gotten the double turn he could have fired 4 times in a row without any lost units on his side.

  • @depop8361
    @depop8361 Před 3 lety

    I might be nitpicking, but the worship through bloodshed ability does not let you pile in and attack, it says just you can fight or shoot. Has this been changed in the new book? While in the great scheme of things that might only have been a minor error, it made a difference nonetheless, I would have picked the blood stalkers to shoot.

    • @mxxaxxg
      @mxxaxxg Před 3 lety

    I think AOS should not keep initiative and the double turn anymore. The damage output of the current armies is too high now and getting double turned usually means that you will lose too much of your army to continue playing. Perhaps MWG should stick with not using the initiative roll off for the next few battle reports and see if it results in more enjoyable games.

    • @falconpunch8734
      @falconpunch8734 Před 3 lety +4

      Elite players will often plan for the double turn, it's gives an additional tactical choice. The problem is it can completely kill off casual games for players who don't prepare for it. I think it would be cool to keep it but make it much harder to get the double turn but that's just my opinion
      Btw I'm not an elite player but fortunately I play ogres and sometimes can survive and still have enough punch

    • @Blaze_Raven
      @Blaze_Raven Před 3 lety +4

      @@falconpunch8734 Perhaps the double turn should not be decided by a die roll but should be decided by the player that went first in the previous battle round. If there is tactical value in allowing the double turn, then this would put the choice in the hands of the player that will receive the brunt of the double turn. If not, the players would simply carry on with alternating turns.
      If GW were to rework initiative to something controlled by the players, I'd wager that very few games would ever see a double turn past battle round 2 since there are very few instances where allowing your opponent to have two consecutive turns is ever a good tactical choice.
      I'd also argue that the perceived tactical choices created by the possibility of being double turned is simply risk mitigation. It is only carried out because the player starts in a position where they are faced with a chance between a mild reward and a heavy punishment. This imbalance in potential results causes the double turn to be a negative play experience when it happens to a player. And with the increasing damage potential of armies, the ability to capitalize on getting a double turn after being double turned is severely limited since you would have received significant losses to your army.

      @@Blaze_Raven I actually kind of like your proposal in the first paragraph, it's a fun alternative.
      I have to disagree with the third though, with the risk mitigation assessment. It's a more aggressive choice than mitigating risk in my opinion. I think it can leave armies extended sometimes, and casters can sometimes not get off spells that they had the previous turn. A good player will way up the risk before blindly taking a double turn because honestly it can sometimes do more harm than good. The turn is a bigger problem when it comes to the shooting meta, largely because armies can stay away and pepper the opponent with shots and not really suffer a consequence.
      It all comes down to preference but either way I enjoyed your insight and your alternative.

    My knee jerk reaction from this battle. Daughters of Kain have been too powerful for ages and they are now even stronger. Hedonites were too good for a few months, then they got nerfed repeatendly until there was really only one or two viable builds. Now they are even worse. So...good job GW? Too early to tell I suppose, but some of the new units (Slaangor in particular) seem really bad. I expect they will fiddle around with points but they won't make any meaningful changes. Seems like some armies are ALWAYS really OP while others are sometimes okay and still others are always bad. The elf factions are always pretty good. Beasts of Chaos always suck. That sort of thing.

I’m new to the army so I can’t speak too much for how they used to be I didn’t think they were extremely powerful before (besides the keeper, though compared to other greater daemons it still seemed on par) increasing the cost of everything seems like it is going to hurt a lot. Especially sense slaanesh was already a glass cannon army anyway being able

    Long rant incoming:
    I am so torn on the AoS turn rules. I think its an attempt to half ass IGYG with squad based activation, and it just does not work. IGYG is easily understood, but tends to lack complete player feedback (other then saving throws and attacking back in CC). Squad based activation is amazing (think titanicus or battletech) but can slow down the game. This IGYG but the chance to switch turn order can be to gimmicky. In the earlier turns it really doesn’t matter - especially if you both plan for it - but a double turn in turn 4 or 5 is devastating - especially when things are already in CC. Nothing feels worse then you in the lead on turn 4, then the other player double turns you and essentially does double damage to your army in quick succession.
    I think there are really only two ways to play a game that work:
    IGYG very much like warhammer 40K. This can be modified to work more like Infinity - where it is still IGYG but there is heavy interaction between two players and reactions and such
    Squad/unit based activation like Titanicus, Dropzone, battletech. I find this to be much, MUCHHHH, more enjoyable as a play experience. I feel there are more tactical decisions that needs to be made, there is more interaction between players, and it just feels enjoyable.
    That is why when 40K came out with their apoc rules and they “somewhat” approached this type of rule with the idea of detachment activation - it was so much fun to play because it was... well it was squad based activation (also the fact that things did NOT DIE until end of turn was AMAZING - frack you alpha strike armies god that was such a cool rule).
    Anyway rant over - do you what makes you feel comfortable. I don’t watch you guys for the l33t plays... I watch you guys cause you are hilarious and fun to watch....

    • @ryancooper3629

      The problem with the double turn is can cause a gigantic swing in the game based on a single roll-off. I've seen shooting armies erase an entire opponent on a double turn. Nothing the opponent could do about it. Thats not fun and it also doesn't make for a fun to watch game.
      The other big problem with the double turn is it introduces a potentially very long period of inactivity for one player. The worse experience I had was one time I was playing vs a goblin player who had all bows. It was this massive army of crappy shooting. They got the double turn early and it was literally 2 hours before I got to play again. Thats an extreme example, for sure, but even in fast paced games the double turn creates a fairly long period of time where one player his limited or no interactivity with the game.
      Personally, I've mostly quit AoS. Like I have loads of armies but I mostly just play 40k now and the leading reason for that is that I find the double turn is utterly toxic to the fun of the game, for me. (I also hate wholly within and how AoS pitched battle profiles work)

Asume DOK won in turn 2 when they double-turned becouse they ust would smash everything (they even rolled it to see if they would double turned and theygot it). After that point they ere just trying to showcase some aspect of Slaanes army (with little success). It surely was a bad tactic just push everything on turn 1, i think the army would work better if stays a a bit back soaking some damage and trasnforming it en Depravation Points instead of rush combat, specially if the opponent is good at close combat. This said, i don´t think they really ignored much the rules, just wanted to extend the game a bit more or would be a really short video. If you just wanted the result you could stop watching at turn 2, and take the lesson in game how Slaanesh doesn´t work.

    I want to get into AoS. But not only are there not many players near me. But watching battlereports makes the game seem like there's so much more fluff to work through each turn before anything even happens. And that creates so much stuff to implement and remember. It's kind of a turn off.

      What do you mean? The Hero phase? That is one of the best parts about AoS is that stuff generally happens there.

      The more you play the game, the easier it is to remember. There's always AoS reminders too, that's a huge help if you're ever unsure what order you need to activate things
