      No surprise there. Just look what the US did to African Americans and identities taken away. Not to mention what they did to Native Americans. You guys should do a vlog on African American and Native American history. Btw, Idk whether I like your new set up or not yet. I think I have to get used to it. I'm so used to seeing you guys up close. I like that the Reaction screen is larger though. Thanks guys. This bit of history was interesting. Not something you would learn about in school. Thank you for reacting in this video and learning more about our country! Although I hate the American government for being so manipulative and controlling, i believe our own ancestors back then weren't really that faultless, although they fought against the Americans for sometime but because of the wrong decision of our government and some civil war--the president against some of his generals, because they were against the cooperation with the americans but welp the president is the president so he purged everyone who follows and have the same opinion as his most competent general which boom i guess weaken our military competencies that leads to our defeat against the american army and which let them conquer us. Anyways if you have free time and wants to learn more about our history try watching the movies 'Heneral Luna' and 'GOYO' which settings were set during the Philippine-American war hihi😊

Those countries are very progressive now and Philippines is still left behind..

      The only time filipinos of luzon & visayas became slaves are when muslim pirates from mindanao captured them and sold them to malaysia. Spanish law, unlike the americans, forbid slavery. We were treated as serfs just like Spain once had spanish serfs during the middle ages. Big difference between serfs and slaves.

    I think when we talk about issues like this, it doesn't necessarily mean we 'hate' the citizens of the country that did horrible things to us in the past. It's really the government at that time that did those things and the people of today have nothing to do with it. We hope, though, that there's an acknowledgment on the part of the US government at the least so the ones they hurt don't hold grudges or resentments.

    • @thwb4661
      @thwb4661 Před 2 lety +3

      @@emster9835 Hopefully they'd have strong leaders to push their independence. Although, I think the US is another hurdle since the US would not easily give up on Puerto Rico coz the territory gives the American government huge sums of wealth without it being a proper, functioning state. It's such a complicated thing to do, that's why many Puerto Ricans are confused on which way to go.

    • @emster9835
      @emster9835 Před 2 lety +3

      @@thwb4661 Sa totoo lang ang dahilan kaya urong sulong ang US na kilalanin ang kasarinlan natin kasi bahagyang nakaapekto tayo sa Great Depression sa kanila. Sobra-sobra na kasi yung iniluluwas natin sa kanila ng mga agrikultural na produkto natatalo na ang mga lokal na produkto ng US. Gayunpaman ayaw pa rin kasi talaga iwan ang kanilang base militar upang may malakas silang hawak pa rin sa Silangang Asya.
      Sa ngayon maaaring malaki ang pakinabang ng US sa Puerto Rico pero jusko naman, 21st century na, hindi na uso ang mga kolonya. Kung mayroon pa rin naman, umiiral na ang Komonwelt. Maawa naman sila sa bayan na yun. Sasabihin nila sila ang simbolo ng demokrasya ngunit ayaw naman nilang bigyan ng kasarinlan yun.

    • @thwb4661
      @thwb4661 Před 2 lety +3

      @@emster9835 sa true lang. super agree! Also, I think kaya din di sila keen on making us a state dahil majority of us are Asians, and that time sobrang racist ng bansa nila. Imagine more than a million Asian people will automatically become Americans kapag naging state ang Pilipinas. Eh that time mas malaki na populasyon natin kesa sa karamihan ng mga states sa US hahaha. Di nila bet yung ganun hahaha. Until now naman di padin nila bet yung ganun hahaha
      Pero akalain mo, 1991 may base padin dito sa Pinas ang Amerika. that was like 40 or so years since naging independent tayo. Kung di lang nagalburoto si Mt. Pinatubo di pa sila aalis hahahah.
      Speaking of PR naman, sadly pero that's true. And unfortunately, hindi lang Puerto Rico ang ganyan. Guam, US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, etc. ay katulad din ng Puerto Rico.
      Overseas Territories is basically a 21st Century euphemism for "colony".
      For sure ang Pilipinas ganyan din if nagstay tayo sa US. I don't see us becoming a state dahil sa layo natin and sa kadahilanang Asian tayo. Di papayag mga Anglo-Saxons sa White House na maging US state tayo. Kaya lang naman naging state ang Hawaii and Alaska because white immigrants increased there and they helped on making Alaska and Hawaii part of their mainland US. And if maging state man tayo, for sure yung "Filipino" identity natin will be undermined similar to Hawaiins now, kasi dadami ang puting mga transplant from mainland, tapos isama mo pa yung mga Asian migrants na gustong maging American. For sure dadayuhin nila ang Pilipinas kasi malapit. For short we will have to share our country with other ethnicities, and salungat yun sa mission ng mga Rebolusyonaryong Filipino na ang Pilipinas ay para sa mamamayang Pilipino.
      That's why we're still lucky that we got out of that fraudulent system called "overseas territory" kahit ano pang sabihin ng iba na mas yayaman daw kuno pag naging part ng US. At least we have our own sovereignty, and we have the right to have our own nationality and the right to vote. Something na hindi maibigay ng US sa puerto rico.Di nila bet yung ganun hahaha.

    False things about the video:
    1. The name of our country (the Philippines) before the colonization of the Philippines. - Mai is the name of our country but it is one of the many pre-colonial and ancient kingdoms that were recorded. Even now, some historians still debating where is the exact location of the kingdom of Mai. Tbh, the oldest recorded kingdom here in the Philippines is the kingdom of Tondo.
    2. It is not 500 years ago when Spaniards conquered the Philippines. It was 500 years ago a so-called discovery of the Philippines, and they start to conquer it 461 years ago (1560s-1570s). The Spaniards didn’t really succeed in conquering the Philippines, in fact, they failed many times for many decades for attempting to conquer the country.
    3. Spaniard's cruelty and atrocities - the Americans painted Spain as the pure evil empire just to justify their so-called mission to liberate the colonies. In fact, Americans are not far worst than the Spaniards, for example, they vilified the Spaniards for their violent colonial concentration camps, but when the Americans took over they did the same thing as well but they escalated it to something bigger and worst. For just a few years they wiped out somewhere around 1-3 million Filipinos (some said that it was more than that).
    4. It is true that Spain ended up selling the Philippines to the United States for 20 Million dollars, but Spain did not actually ask the United States for payments. In fact, it was the US that forced Spain to sell the Philippines, which led Spain forced to accept the payment for the Philippines and the other islands. When the “Treaty of Paris” happen US literally ignored the voices of the Filipinos about their freedom.

      Ma-i existed roughly in Mindoro island and parts of Southern Luzon, although yes, we cannot pinpoint its exact location. The Philippine archipelago was not unified during that time so there is no existing name to really call it.

      1. The country has no name before colonization bc there's no country before that. Just a collection of different kingdoms and tribes.
      2. They were successful in their colonization. You must mean that they didnt fully colonize the tribes in the mountain regions of the north and the muslims in the south. But that doesnt make their colonization of most of the philippines unsucessful.
      3. So you dont know how the spanish-american war started.
      4. Again, this shows you are not familiar with the spanish-american war. The only thing you kind of got right is the last part. The spanish was forced to agree to sell the ph for $20M bc their queen accepted the american's term.
      Kapag magkokorek ka dapat tama, hindi yung sasala pa.

      In 3, Americans and Spanish became enemies because of the bombing of a US ship in Cuba (Spanish colony). Also, since the Philippines was a colony of Spain that time, Philippines and America actually made an alliance to wage war against the Spaniards because the Spaniards were their mutual enemy. When the Spanish were defeated, the Malolos Republic was declared; however, this declaration was not recognized by the Americans, and they imposed Benevolent Assimilation of the Philippines. Their reasons for becoming an imperial power include "Social Darwinism", where they thought it was their responsibility to nurture the Philippines into becoming more civilized. Another is "Economic Change", where they need new colonies to gain raw materials for industrialization. Moreover, "Balance of Power" was also another reason where they thought of protecting us from another invasion of other rising countries (Germany, Japan, Russia). Lastly, they want to demonstrate democracy on us. This last reason; however, is questionable because they colonized us in an undemocratic way, opposite to what they wanted to teach us in the first place.

      1-3 Million is way way too high for the Philipine-American war. The population of the Philippines in 1898 was about 7.8 million and in 1903 was about the same. There is 0 evidence for a massive population drop in the phillipines that that kind of death toll would have produced. The estimate is that about 20,000 Filipinos died in combat, and at even the absolute highest end estimates say about 200,000 civilians might have died due to starvation or disease during that time.

We were colonized by the Americans and we have their culture in our traditions even up to this day. And I think we are very welcoming with the Americans and I don’t see any problem with that at all.

      Yes, we gave the american invading tourists a warm welcome and killed more than 4k of them. But thats nothing compared to what they did to us. I remember an american tourist named General Jake "howlin" Smith, who "turned Samar into a wilderness" and ordered his men to "kill all males older than 10". Then, they stole the 3 bells of Balangiga in 1901, nice tourists!
      Finally, in 2018, Trump decided to save money on metal polish and returned the bells when he saw how welcoming the filipinas were to D.O.M. American tourists looking for wives to care for them in their old age.

    Yes. I am largely sorry for having risen up against Spain and that is why, when the funerals of King Alfonso of Spain were held in Manila, I appeared at the cathedral to the surprise of the Spaniards. And they asked me why I had come to the funeral of the King of Spain against whom I rose up in rebellion... And I told them that he is still my King because under Spain we were always Spanish subjects, or citizens, but now, under the States United, we are just a consumer market for their exports, when not pariahs, because they have never made us citizens of any state in the United States... And the Spanish made way for me and treated me as their brother on that significant day...
