    You have the PTO shaft on backward it usually has the clutch on the Mower Gearbox and the Quick release on the tractor .

    Have to agree with the last comment, the slip clutch is on the implement, not the tractor. I had this unit for the last 6 years with hammer blades, keep them sharp and you will get a mow that your neighbors won't believe came from a tractor. I currently maintain 6 miles of trails on my property and you could golf on them . Get that pto shaft switched around.

    U HAVE YOUR PTO SHAFT BACKWARDS YOUR SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE CLUTCH SIDE ON THE FLAIL MOWER GEAR BOX SIDE THAT WILL SOLVE YOUR COMPLAINT

      @JoelAClear Před 2 lety +4

      This. The Slip Clutch end goes on the mower and uses the locking pin to keep it attached to the mower. You do not want to use this shaft for any other implement. The push pin will go to the tractor end to easily disconnect it and drive away.

    Your pto shaft is on the wrong way. Slip clutch goes on machine gearbox end

    I don't know anything about that brand, but the flail mower I used in the vineyard I managed you could swap the hammer blades out for Y'.s. It was just a matter pulling a hair pin out and then pulling the half inch (it could have been bigger, it's been 45 years since I saw the mower.) rod the blades hang from. Then reverse the process. I use to do some welding, but I'm over 70 and I'm not sure anyone would want me. I even knew how to forge welding.

    sounds like you need to switch your blades to hammer blades, based on the amount of abuse the cutting blades are receiving, your PTO shaft is on backwards flip it 180°, the slip clutch supposed to be on the mower end not the tractor.

      Yep- I'm hard on those blades! Good tip! Thanks! Dave

    Great advice on the flail mower but even better advice to our young Americans about becoming a certified welder!!! Comment on your PTO drive shaft - never seen the slip clutch end of the drive shaft mounted at the tractor side, but rather always at the implement side?? Is this how you've always done it? As you know "Y" blades are reversible and they wear in a manner that shouldn't really require much sharpening if you reverse them. Sharpening them to too fine and edge will only result in faster wear. You might also want to consider going to Double "Y" blades when you need a new set. Was the tilt function included with the hydraulic slide function or was it a separate option as well? Thanks for your video and would love to get an update now that it's been a year since you posted this video as I am considering purchasing the Woodmaxx FM96H model once they are back in stock. Thank you Dave.

      Used it 2 seasons now- still going strong.
      Use a hydralic cylinder on the 3 point hitch for nearly all the implements run back there.
      I installed the PTO backwards originally and haven't bothered changing it- actually is easy to get to the zerks for lubing...
      I was dissapointed in the Y blades, dulled quickly and more time consuming to sharpen, as required unbolting, sharpening and reinstalling. The hammer blades kick butt!
      Thanks! Dave

    Thanks for the video. Hopefully, your mower is still working well for you. I am looking for a flail mower. I like the features and price of the WoodMaxx.
    Where did you get the controls for your Kubota 3 point hitch? They look convenient where they are mounted.

    What hp Kubota are you running? Thinking about getting same unit for my L3940

    Would a flail mower be effective in clearing/tilling weeds in a sandy horse arena? The sand is usually around 3-4” deep.

    • @daveosland3199
      @daveosland3199  Před 3 měsíci

      No-
      I would use something like a "Drag King" or an "arena drag" to dress the field. Dave

    In the last scene, your skids were digging into the dirt and gouging it out. You need to raise your stop.

    I thought this would be a great purchase.. bought the fm54.. when it arrived the stem to grease the bottom pulley was in the bottom of belt well and the whole were it was supposed to mount was dry.. reassembled an greased.. no problem..only got about 40ft cleared an the bottom pulley locked up .. smoked the belts pretty badly.. got in touch with warranty department.. though some back and forth..( which they originally were trying to say it was my fault)..finally made a ticket to send me a new bearing , ( and maybe new belts).. looked up the ticket on there website and it listed as low priority..Ugg .. I wouldn’t recommend going this route.. save your money an buy a higher quality machine

    And doesn't the rear housing open up so you don't have to crawl underneath? lol An impact might speed up taking the knives on and off.

    • @daveosland3199
      @daveosland3199  Před 2 lety

      The housing doesn't open.
      I have a 3 minute video on sharpening using an impact driver.
      The factory bolts ware so tight I had to use a 20" bar to crack the nuts loose the 1st time i sharpened them....

      On Woodmaxx's website, it shows that you can lift the back housing panel by the two bolts on each side and get access to the blades without crawling underneath the mower which is a bit dangerous, hope that helps, nice video, would like to see more cutting please.

    • @toddbrillinger
      @toddbrillinger Před rokem

      Yes the rear panel flips open for easy access for hammer/knife service.

  • @theburnhams2925
    @theburnhams2925 Před měsícem

    Just flip the blade around so the unused side engages. When it's dull, you can sharpen both sides at the same time you take 'em off. I didn't see any jackstands under that mower you were UNDER!

    • @daveosland3199
      @daveosland3199  Před měsícem

      These blades only have 1 cutting edge- "can't be flipped around"
      No jackstand- A bolt is inserted in the side holes, preventing the unit to drop... Dave

    I had a Betstco, and didn't like. Its chinese built. woodmax is the same. belts keep slipping and only cutting about 2' of grass. I sold it. Looking to get a heavier duty one, John Deere or Maschio

      Outside of the blades dulling quickly (I run the unit skimming the dirt) it's ran pretty flawlessly for about 40 hrs.... Dave
