JB Donaldson gives us the full story on his 1941 Buick Roadmaster Convertible. We walk around, ride and drive, open it up, talk about the history and more. He's owned it many years, and I'm learning. Very enjoyable experience! This Buick has the rare 320 Cubic inch dual-carb Fireball Dynaflash straight 8 engine.

In the 3 short weeks since making my previous comment, I’ve managed to purchase probably the only ‘41 Roadmaster Convertible Coupe in Australia. I cannot believe how fortunate I am. The car needs total restoration but is 100% complete and comes with all parts necessary for restoration and all chrome & diecast restored plus an NOS parts list too long to mention. I’m over the moon!
Grant that is fantastic! Congratulations!
Is it right hand drive?
@@dougn2350 no it’s LHD as was made in Flint Michigan. It was sold from New Jersey to Ontario Canada in 1978, then sold to Perth Western Australia in 2014, then sold to me in December 2022. I’ve disassembled it now and it went to the body shop 3 days ago.
My dad had a ‘41 Special 2 door with torpedo back. I remember the sound of gear shifting. The Sontag (Sonntag?) radio had a great sound. It was driven to Anchorage on the Alcan Hwy. in 1949. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor had a Buick.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Lots of people would love to have that vehicle
I think you’re right!
I own a ‘41 Buick here in Australia, but just a base model (Series-A Special Business Coupe). I can attest that even my base-model car is beautiful to drive and as it’s in excellent condition I use it most weekends.
Wonderful!
Yet again, Barry, you've enjoyed something that not many people will ever have, riding round in such a wonderful automobile 👍👍😎Pete 🤓
I am blessed for sure! My goal is to share the experience as best I can. 👍 I hope you’re doing well, Pete, and cheers from 🌵 AZ!
Yesterday I started a conversation with a guy on Facebook who posted some photos of his 1941 Roadmaster convertible coupe in Sequoia Cream (yellow). I couldn’t tell if it was a Roadmaster so asked for more photos which showed clearly it is a Roadmaster. I wondered if it could be this car in your video and he confirmed that it indeed is this car. He lives about 80 miles from San Antonio TX.
I’m now in contact with 3 other owners of 1941 Roadmaster Convertible Coupes (Model 76C) while undertaking a full restoration of my own here in Australia. These contacts are very helpful, and your videos of this car have helped greatly in inspiring me.
My restoration is going very well but we have a long way to go.
Wow Grant, I’m so glad to hear that! I miss that car it was always a treat to ride in. Glad to hear your project is progressing well! Good on you!
Wow, what a great video. Extremely detailed.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Glad you liked it! Thank you!
We. Had. Buick. Road master dark. Yellow convertible but. It. Had. Swan on the bonnet very. Smooth in running. Long distance in Bombay.

What a wonderful memory - thanks!
Just a beautiful car. JB has great taste. I have a mostly stock 40 ford deluxe coupe and can attest to JB's remark about needing to raise one's voice to speak to the passenger!
Identical to the car Mildred bought snooty daughter Vida for her birthday in the Joan Crawford classic film, "Mildred Pierce".
I will have to look that up!
I wonder if this is the same car I helped to d restore in Pennsylvania many years ago. It sure looks like it.
Wonderful history, and a beautiful car!! Hope to see one in person one day!
It's funny that so few of the styling features of the '38 Buick 'Y-Job' show car didn't make it into this 3 year newer car. Still, an excellent car. I can imagine it with the automatic and the retractable headlamps...but, then WWII was underway...so this was it until late in the 40's...Thanks...
Insightful comments, thank you
Wow! very enjoyable. Although I never seen it (before my time) Dad used to talk about his time on vacation with Grandpa and the good times they had in his 41 Buick, (no idea what model) . Dads 55 Special started with the gas pedal, I never did figure out how it worked. I sure enjoy how y’all get along on the subject of fine automobiles. Thanks for your attention to detail etc. The Buick takes “speed bumps” quieter than my pickup that will take off in 2nd gear too, but not w/o a bit of throttle . Take care, I look forward to your next drive in a classic ❤
Thank you Norm - much appreciated.
I know the car which I helped restore in Pennsylvania wound up in California when it's owner passed away.
That’s fascinating, I will mention this to JB!
I was a witness to how good a car it was - hat’s off to you!
Such a fantastic video Barry. 👍👍🤩. I've got so many questions I won't ask any😂. So many great details, power and drivability. One finger mostly, fantastic. 🤩👍👍. Thanks for showing and best wishes from jolly old England 👍😎Pete 🤓
Pete! 🙏 Thank you! 🌵
Wow what an awesome story behind this car
Thanks Jmac!
Good one !
Thank you!
Yes, beautiful car but it would’ve been nice to see the underside of it…chassis, suspension etc instead of going over and over the same things topside. My brother just bought a 1948 BuickSuper 8 and it would’ve been nice to compare.
That’s a good idea. Maybe we can
Beautiful car. Is this the Teutil Roadmaster that sold at Bonhams in 2016?
I’m not sure…
I am in Australia. What would I have to have to buy one today??
I’m not sure - Try sending JB an email. jbdonaldsonco@gmail.com
I’m also in Australia (Adelaide) and restoring one of these exact cars now.
The correct fog lights for 1941 Buick were in fact and 100% Guide 6-11/16 with clear lenses ... what JB Donaldson is CONFUSED about is ... just because he has Guide fog lights on this car does not mean they are the correct Guide fog lights... The fog lights shown on this car are generic GM Guide lights sold at dealerships parts counter in the years 1947 to about 1952 for any car that wanted to add fog lights ... so much of what is said in this clip is just plain wrong ...
It’s interesting that the dash has a factory fog light switch.
@@BarryTsGarage Actually ... the dash having the factory fog light switch means very little ... They show up for sale on ebay one or twice a year or two ... the fact that the dash switch is in place only indicates either the car came with fog lights from the factory OR a person added the factory switch ... Either way ... the fog lights on this car are 100% wrong and it is comically sad to hear JB Donaldson say others are confused ... when it is he that is sadly confused ... the fog lights on this car as stated previously are generic Guide fog lights sold at GM parts counter for ANY car that wanted to add fog lights ... and are circa 1947-1952 ... The ONLY correct fog lights for 41 Buick are 6-11/16 and have clear lenses ... this is a fact ... JB is just parroting what hucksters have told him ...
@@BarryTsGarage also .... JB goes on and on about the sun-visors and how correct they are ... They are not correct at all ... they should be done in red vinyl to match the red leather interior ... This car is a F-E-S-T-I-V-A-L of incorrect features & details ... certainly was not restored by a knowledgeable 41 Buick guy .... JB should not be pontificating about correctness when he obviously does not know ! ( No one should use this car as a guide to restore their 41 Buick unless they dont care about factory correct details & features )
What model Buick do you have?
@@BarryTsGarage 1936 to 1972
MORE ... The color on this 41 Buick was NOT offered in 1941 ...
Do you happen to know which colors were offered?
Bonzi!😂
