The 351 Cleveland was not the same bell housing pattern and motor mounts as a 460! It had a Windsor style bell housing pattern and motor mounts the 351m and 400m witch used the same style heads and looked similar but was a taller deck height that the Cleveland had the 460 style bell housing pattern and motor mounts! Not sure where he's coming from with that. Maybe he just misspoke.
Thumbs up great video, that all makes sense for that engine
Thank you, Jeff, I appreciate you being along on the channel!
Ed is a library of knowledge!
Yeah, no.

That blow by out the coolant port be serious yo.........
Just some assembly lube burning off 👍👍
That block is very thick, great durability.😊

I’d rather have a Duesenberg

Thanks, will do!
So the gear reduction starter was new , is that why all Chrysler products have a strange noise when starting.😮
But it worked!

T build in background.. nice
As I recall, the Ford flathead had the CRANK offset 1/8 or 1/4, I forget which. *The de Saxe principle.
Dam ,his knowledge is amazing
Im sure he has forgotten more than most have known about racing.
Well that escalated quickly lol. Hopefully you can get Ed to give up his secret sauce seeing how all these guys got their panties in a bunch over this old timers racing story. lol 😂 good luck to ya 🫡
HAHA right? I'll see what I can do! Thanks!
I love this guy. I could listen to him all day long and probably not here the same thing over. Good common sense goes along way.I’m still waiting to hear what connecting rods, he used in the Mopar, Pontiac ,Chevy , engine build. Was he just pulling our leg that kind of sounds like it would slow my Chevy down if I put Mopar and Pontiac parts in it. just saying . not hating.😂🏁
🤣🤣 Funny. No, I haven’t asked him yet. I’m not sure he’ll tell! He’s tried so many things over the years and a lot he learned has been pretty much locked down as “trade secrets”. Only recently has he been more willing to share… 👍🙏

I feel like she's old ass cars were designed better then cars today. The mechanical parts on these are wayyyy more cooler then electronic systems of today's cars.
What was that Chevrolet block? Bif pistons, "smaller" crank and a medium block? 350? 396? 400?
I'll ask Ed. Hopefully he'll fess up!
I wish this was my grandpa. Imagine growing up and going to grandma and Grandpa's house like this dudes, and sneaking out in his garage and digging around with your little cousins looking at all his cool ass antique shit. My great grandma was an old pottery ceramics teacher and me and my brother when we were younger would sneak out into her garage, which she created into a ceramics shop and she had an old ass kiln in there and literally thousands of old antique ceramic molds and thousands of ceramics she made that she hadn't painted, she just had them waiting to be painted. And a lot of them are ones so many older people had in their homes across America. She has that ceramic Christmas tree that you used to put the little plastic candles in the branches and it had a lamp inside that lit up all the little plastic candles. My great grandma made that tree and she had the molds for it and had hundreds of them in her garage waiting to paint and sell. I miss having an older relative like this around that was really cool. I thought my great grandma was the coolest person I ever knew from all the cool stuff she had in her home I remember looking through Everytime we went over there for holidays and parties and stuff growing up.
It’s very honorable to respect and appreciate those who went before us 👍👍🙏😀
I always enjoy this guy dropping knowledge.
I too build engines to last 500 miles. Can you imagine how many times you would have to knock it all back apart to get the spacing right.
I used an oil filter wrench and an old can one of the big ones even with the ridges it worked great for flathead mowers
Great idea

Thank you for your knowledge and videos USA 🇺🇸 TRUMP 2024
Imagine him making an F1 engine
I just watched an interesting ,hour long video, of a "river boat racing" team, that built LS platform, 4.8L , destroked them , sleeved them down to ti a 3.something litre, with a bit of crank work to change stroke, and were also running twin turbo chargers, and a centrifugal oil sump that spun the oil down to get rid of froth, so it could run upside down..... They were dynoing these engines at 11,000 rpm or something crazy, for HOURS......all it takes is men with minds like these, that CRAVE reliable power. Haha ✌️
In the 70s, when I was street racing, I had my gas line coiled in a can packed with dry ice to cool the gas right before the carb. Many of these tips bring back a lot of memories. Yes, we did many of the things he talks about.
Awesome!!
It was the fastest, best thing in the world in 1931
I thought I knew, walking talking encyclopedia...
Excellent advise against all the dummies putting in light flywheels. Don't mess with what the engine designers engineered into the car!
Which rods I'm listening 👂🏽 😅😅
What was slant 6's bolted together in tanks
What a beautiful car...
26 thou to which side?
Opposite side of the crank - reduces angle side pressure on the skirts
He is a hell of a barber.
If i don't get haters for talking about his uncontrollable jerky head movements ill get em by saying ALL ford motors are junk ! 💩🤣
Thanks for your support of Ed, it is a childish comment for sure… I don’t think I can go with you on putting every Ford engine in the same basket though. Seems like there might be some reasonable exceptions to that rule?
@@BarryTsGarage no, there's not, not even one !
Ed is mentoring a couple of people for his knowledge right if not I want to be one
Thank you, that’s what these videos are all about!
would they have to stroke the crank? The would be a lot of metal moving around.
In this short video, we’re only talking about comparing different flywheel weights on the same engine
I just wanted to ask,in the case of an after market piston with no notch does it matter which way one would put it in? I love these short videos Barry because I can retain more information because the longer videos have so much more information but don’t get me wrong I love the long videos too! By the way we are breaking 30 Celsius here these days but the mosquitos are incredibly insane when the sun starts to set 😀🇨🇦
According to Ed, it seems that if they have a notch it matters and if they don’t, it doesn’t… But always check your work! 😀 Thanks for the feedback on the short videos they are amazingly similar in effort to post to the long ones so sometimes I wonder if it’s worth doing, but a lot of people will watch a short I guess because it doesn’t commit that much time… a little bit of everything! I’m glad to hear you’re having a little bit of summer weather this year lol keep some sand in your pockets so the mosquitoes have a harder time carrying you away! 😉
The pressure on his cylinder walls (from all the high octane knowledge )blew the head right off his motor! In case anyone was wondering what happened to the rest of ed's hair.
🤣🤣🤣
Pretty genius back in the day.
If you swap the pistons from one side to the other, you make more horsepower/torque.
Thanks for the comment, I haven’t checked in with Ed on this, but it occurs to me that at top dead center, the piston height is the same regardless of which side of center the wrist pin is. The only difference would be the thrust angle on the piston under load from the rod, causing more skirt wear and more friction with that extra side thrust. Does that make sense?
This is true and been proven on a dyno. I’m Mopar based and always do this with 440 six pack pistons. Not much change, usually 3-5hp and a little more noise when it’s cold, but in Stock and Super stock little changes like this add up and make a difference.
@@ThirteenTwentyRepairIt's about the same amount of hp/tq gained from going to thinner rings.
340 only has 3.31 stroke.
That sounds right
Some people believed if you reversed the piston you would get more stroke. What is his opinion? I never thought that but really would like to hear his thoughts
I'll ask Ed!
It changes nothing stroke wise it just moves it .026 off laterally not up into piston or lower in piston which doesn't really change stroke. Stroke is always determined by crankshaft rod journal. If you move the pin lower in a piston all you change is compression ratio because it's higher in the bore but the stroke remains the same.
This is correct 👍
I absolutely love this man. He knows more than 10 people will ever be able to learn. I also love how his HP tips are a lot of times the OPPOSITE of what most are thinking or doing….🤟🏻🏁
thanks! I appreciate him being willing to share....
