  • Jan Crawford explores a unique folk art tradition going back 100 years - once seen on nearly every row house in the working class neighborhoods of Baltimore, Md. - as artists today once again embrace the tradition of painted window screens, an authentic connection to the city's past.

Loved watching this video, not only for the painted screens, but for hearing those Baltimore accents. Sweet. Miss a lot of things about the old Baltimore.

I'm glad to see preservation efforts to protect this tradition of East Baltimore. I can't recall ever seeing two alike, these screens were quite individualized and provided a serenity to the ethnic neighborhoods where I grew up and worked.

I live in New Jersey now,but I was raised In Baltimore. We always had our screens painted. Years later when living and married in New Jersey .I found someone to paint my living room and kitchen screens. Love them. Had to go to Baltimore to get them done. Would love to have a name and address to contact for some of my other window screens
