    I built this kit up as Hauptmann Werner Mölders' mount from his time as Gruppenkommandeur of III/JG53 during the spring/summer of 1940. This particular paint scheme would match his aircraft between June 3rd & June 5th of that year, shortly after he earned his Knight's Cross & just before he was shot down in this 109 on the 5th of June.
    Mölders was captured by French troops, but returned to flying a few weeks later after the country's surrender. Mölders would go on to become the first military aviator in history to score 100 aerial victories & was appointed the General of Luftwaffe Fighters before the age of 30. He was killed in the winter of 1941 when the He-111 he was aboard crashed in bad weather en route to Germany.

    Very nice build and camo scheme! Besides the BF-109 is one of my favorite planes!
    You spray the Ammo paint out of the jar or you thin them? What pressure did you use for the base coat and for the camo? Thanks!

      Thanks so much! The AMMO paint works well right out of the bottle. I just pour a little in my airbrush & I'm good-to-go! I usually use around 22psi, but sometimes I'll go up or down a bit depending on how the paint responds. Happy building! 👍

    Beautiful 109. You've inspired me now to dust off my 1/48 ME 109-E7 by Eduard. I hope that Eduard is half as good as the Tamiya kit. BTW, Yours is an E3. What's the difference between that and an E7? After close inspection, they look identical; I can't find any slightest variation.

    • @SpruesNBrews
      @SpruesNBrews  Před 2 lety

      Awesome - that's great! Happy building 👍
      And there are a few differences between the E-3 & the E-7. The E-4 (which came between those two variants) had a slightly modified canopy & upgraded armament. The E-7 got a new, more-powerful Daimler Benz engine & could carry an external drop tank or bomb for the first time in the 109 line, extending its range considerably.

    Very nice build and livery. I'm more of an armor modeler, but occasionally build a plane now and then. I can never decide on how to paint the wheel wells. I guess if the kit doesn't specify a color they should be the same color as the underside? Or should I paint it the same color as the interior of the cockpit?

    • @SpruesNBrews
      @SpruesNBrews  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Thanks! And it depends on the aircraft type, but you're right that it's often an interior color. With 109s & other Luftwaffe aircraft, I often just leave the wells the same color as the underside, though - it's pretty close 👍

    I use Vallejo air paints, and shine with gazuzy gloss, can I use tamiya accent over the gazuzy gloss without eating my paints?

    • @0waffel0
      @0waffel0 Před rokem

      Well, Does this work? I wanted to try the same thing but was told that Gauzy agent isn't a clear coat product, But something that you'd spray over a clear coat to enhance the shine?

  • @DJVDW01
    @DJVDW01 Před 6 měsíci

    Do you apply another clear coat after putting on the decals and before weathering? I am a bit worried I might ruin the decals.

    • @SpruesNBrews
      @SpruesNBrews  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yes! I always apply a clear gloss coat both before AND after applying my decals before moving on to any weathering. It's key to make sure that both varnish coats cure completely before moving on to the subsequent step to ensure any weathering products don't affect the clear coat. Also, be sure to allow the decals to dry & settle completely before covering them with a gloss coat to avoid any silvering. Hope that helps!

    Nice. But that figure is very underscale. Look at photos to see how small the Bf109 was.

    • @SpruesNBrews
      @SpruesNBrews  Před 2 lety

      I'd say he's pretty close - I've examined a 109G-14 near me & I came up to just about the cockpit standing next to it. It's definitely a tiny bird compared to most of her contemporaries, but I think Ultracast did a good job with this Mölders figure 👍
