    I think this was the most detailed review I've seen, thank you! One think I'd love to see in future reviews that most youtubers don't cover is an earphone test - some of these devices have an annoying background noise when using it with earphones.

      @@DroidLocks6971... at this price point.... for me at least, it's okay. I honestly haven't noticed these problems on mine. But then again, I have full expectations that these devices will be very janky. However, I must say that some of these janky things make me smile as it becomes part of the device's personality. My long-term view is that most "device breaking" problems will (or at least, should) be ironed out further along the maturity of the firmware.
      But ... I'm not a reviewer, just a father in his mid 40s, who was used to configuring boot disks, drivers and DOS games that were super janky in their quirks.... Trying to get games to work on a rusty banger PC with 10 FPS; or running a NES/MD with worn out cables onto a Black/White television. I suppose I'm easy to please, as much of this jank takes me back to my childhood 😂😂

    Great review! I like the RG35XX-H, but it's definitely not a fave. I agree there's just something missing, even with the koriki OS installed. Still a neat one, though, and the transparent white looks SO nice. I also agree that the RP2S has really good buttons. Probably my favorite out of all the smaller devices I own in terms of shoulder and trigger buttons.

    Love your vids, you don’t hang around, cut to the chase and tell it how it is 👏 Your sound test, I have a suggestion, you should think of sitting the device on something spongy, so no vibration is sent into the tables surface, and also set it higher above the table, like maybe 200mm or so, this way if the speakers aren’t front facing they can’t bounce sound off the table, your hands don’t bounce sound very well anyways, so there shouldn’t be a means for the sound to be reflected off a surface behind the device.
    …also, the shake test, it isn’t arbitrary at all, things rattling is a clear sign of poor design and developement, they shouldn’t be rattling 😁
    Keep up the good work, vastly becoming one of my fave channels for handheld retro gaming 👌

    Solid review! The only handheld I own is a Steam Deck OLED which I love more than anything, but I can't really put it in my pocket and play in quick sessions when I'm out and about. I've been wanting a more compact, pocketable device for a while now, but under specific circumstance: the form factor has to slide in and out of tight pockets easily, it has to have joy sticks, and I need to at least be able to play PS1 and N64 (PSP, PS2, and GC would be nice, but that is more premium than what the market currently offers). On top of that, I really don't want to drop around $100 since money is tight. Recently, I saw that the 35XXH was on sale and I impulsively jumped on the chance to get one. At $46, I think it's a steal. I don't think any other console can compare in that price range, at least for what I'm looking for anyway. Considering it's my first retro pocketable handheld, I'm extremely excited to mess around with it, especially since it became compatible with alternative OS that are better than the stock OS.
    I look forward to more great videos in the future!

    I really love the form factor of this device. Too bad I am not quite willing to give Anbernic a second chance yet. I have a 351p that has a broken screen from barely any use. Any slight tap and the screen would change color and the screen died after a couple months.
    I got a retroid pocket 2+ and it’s been night and day comparing durability and software. I even let my 5 and 1 year old play and it’s survived for almost a year now.

    Good review, I have the XXplus, the miyoo mini and was wondering about the XX H, however even tho the XX plus has better battery than the mini, I keep going back to the mini because of sotware. I will only consider the H if there is a software update to play more PSP, otherwise my PSP/Dreamcast machine is the X55(not portable but the screen is nice for those consoles). Had the RP3 and 3+ but I never got to play them intensively. and bcause of all the yuzu drama, I will not be getting the RP4.

There are another 10-15 saturn games where it's nice but not necessary. I play a little PS1 and I hardly ever feel like I need it there either. If this was the form factor (plastic instead of metal, dpad over joystick) that the 405m used, I would have liked my 405m a lot more. As it is, I kinda just don't like it and the RP4 pro has completely replaced it - turns out I just hate slippery metal heavy shells and a nice lightweight plastic shell is downright better, even if the majority of what I play on the RP4pro is 4:3.
    As it is, for the performance on tap, I just prefer vertical form factor. the 35xx still has a place in my uniform pocket for long waits at the hospital because I can play it one handed - that's a huge deal for me. I haven't upgraded to the 35xx+ yet despite wanting that tiny bit of extra power for upscaling some PS1 games that my 35xx struggles a bit with (chrono cross in particular) because I'm honestly waiting for the sequel to the 353v. Give me the 353v but with hall effect sticks and the hardware out of the RP4 or even the 405m, but don't change the size or form factor. That's the handheld I'm going to hold out for. Until then, 35xx, RP4pro and steam deck are my trinity. Now I just need to find someone who wants to buy my 405m.

    • @adinwalls
      @adinwalls  Před 3 měsíci

      Hehe you have the trio of perfectness 😂 well, Powkiddy are working on a vertical version of the RGB30. It looks ugly as sin but I know I’m going to end up liking it. Maybe you will too.

    • @colinmartin9797
      @colinmartin9797 Před 3 měsíci

      I only worry that a powkiddy option will also feel like a typical fairly low quality powkiddy product - cheap and with ugly color options. Though that 1:1 screen is coooool, I was considering an rgb30 exclusively for pico 8 and gameboy/gbc.
      I like that you consider the devices as "pocket vs backpack" because that's how I look at them. The rp4 is a backpack device. The 35xx fits in the uniform leg pocket of my paramedic pants, and the steam deck is more of a "luggage/carry on" size.
      I think the device I really need to fill out my list is just a jailbroken 3ds XL to play ds and 3ds exclusively, before anything else.
      If you're curious about affordable gaming device options to review, you might be interested in aliexpress/samsung s7 tablet era android tablets with a snapdragon 8. They can be had for under 200 with an 11 inch screen. I set my tab s7 plus up with daijisho and it throws down ps2 no issue, and with a couple portable Bluetooth controllers, is now my portable multi-player gaming device for my wife and I when we travel. Not even russ or techdweeb have looked at them yet, but under $200 for an 11 inch snapdragon 8 is kind of tempting.
      Another idea nobody has covered yet is headphones for retro handheld gaming. Things like iems, earbuds (there's only one option there, the niceHCK eb2s) and headphones, even bluetooth options like the moondrop space travel. Even some $20 moondrop chu 2's REALLY take advantage of that headphone jack.

    I picked the RG353M which I heard is now already quite out of date even though the specs are good (similar to this). BUT Is this the choice I should have made? Or does the extra RAM and touch screen make it a better option?

      @adinwalls  Před měsícem +1

      Hey there. Most guys I talk to are interested in PS1, Sega Genesis and NES. All of these will be flawless on the 353M and it’s a beautiful device aswell. A lot of people felt the 353M was the “final device” for anyone interested in PS1 and below. It’ll play newer systems too but performance gets worse the higher up you go. Longer answer to say: yes you made a good choice.

    I have the 351P and the 35xxH. In my experience the 351P is more comfortable to hold on longer play seasions because the 351P is thick. There is more room to hold/grip the device. The 351P also has better build quality when it comes to buttons, d pads and shoulder buttons. The The 351P is a time when Anbernic didn't go cheap on build quality unlike Anbernic's cheaper models today. The shoulder buttons on the 35xxH are louder and feels cheap compared to the 351P. The dpad of 351P is also way better than the 35xxH. I didn't miss an input on the 351P when it comes to the d pad. I don't like the smooth abxy buttons of the 35xxH because my fingers slip sometimes. The 351P doesn't have that issue because the buttons are not smooth.
    The 35xxH is still good because it has wifi, bluetooth controller/wired controller support for multiplayer and hdmi so it can be played on TVs and monitors. The downside is we still need to wait for a while for a proper custom firmware to unleash the full potential of the 35xxH. Koriki is good but it still has issues. This is of course the fault of Anbernic not making the the OS open source.
