  • In this video I will show you how to upgrade your fuel pump on your N54 powered BMW on the cheap. I show you how to modify your stock fuel buckret and install a Walbro 450 LPH fuel pump capable of running E85. You basically make it bucketless.
I install this on my 2008 BMW 335i
Watch this video for how to remove and install your pump:

I realize this post is a few years after the fact, but I want to say thank you anyway. After a lengthy list of repairs and upgrades (including new LP fuel sensor) I’ve just got my N54 135i, with its new Stage 1 VTT turbos, back on the road. No codes yet, but MHD is reporting a (shadow) inactive 2AAF. Datalogs show that the LPFP is generally working well at between 70-80 psi, but when I accelerate more aggressively it drops below 50 psi. Looks to me that the LPFP just can’t keep up with the new higher fuel demand. I’m a bit tight on cash at the moment so made the call to try out this project. Just bought all the gear and will get started on it soon!

Make sure you line up the tab on the top part of the pump assembly before you tighten down the lock ring, unless you wanna be like me and shift the position of the tab 90 degrees and also have fuel pouring out the bottom of your car. I prolly should have paid more attention when the lock ring wasn't tightening properly, and I almost couldn't get it free again as it was spinning the whole assembly. Otherwise, pretty easy lol.

Hey there, saw some of your videos and since you know quite a lot about direction injection bmw engines I kinda wanted to see your take on a problem that mine has been having for the past 3 and a half years ( ever since I bought it ) . So mine is an n43 ( pretty much an N53 with 4 cyl ) same high pressure fuel pump, same injectors, everything, so here's the issue, mine hesitates to start when it's warm, it doesn't do it constantly, it's doing it like 70% of the time, however, if I let it sit for hours or over night it starts up absolutely perfect. What I've been told it's that some of the injectors might be leaky, but shouldn't that cause some sort of missfire or cold start issues as well? I get good injectors values on ISTA, car has NEVER missfired in all these years, doesn't surge, doesn't hesitate, pulls and works like a charm once It starts. HPFP has no pressure issues as well. What's your take on it? The way it behaves is pretty much as if it struggles to ignite the gasoline in the cilinders from what I can hear. All sensors are ok, checked all the values and sensors, ISTA shows no fault, new starter, new timing chain and tensioner etc, new crankshaft rpm sensor, mpg is just fine, drives like a charm, I'm out of ideas and so is every single mechanic and the dealer. What's your take on it? It drives me insane. Oh and also, to describe the symptom, apart from the engine struggling to start, when it does it seems like it shakes it quite a bit, just like yours was doing on your N54 injectors DYI video when you said that when it's warm if you start it it shakes the engine pretty hard
