    I was baring down all the time till I saw this video. Practicing the last 10
    minutes of this video with you repeatedly over the past several weeks has made me such a better singer.

    Nice demos! I look forward to applying your principles. I've stuck with chest voice most of my life but I decided to incorporate more head voice over the last couple yrs. It's nice to see you're exploring the same things I thought were too weak and nasally to employ in my vocals. I can hear how your method sounds so much better if the proper techniques are applied. Thx!!!

    I feel you so much with your jorney of getting back your voice. I quit guitar playing/teaching for like 11 years due to repetitive strain injury that would only get worse, until 2022 when I found the way to recover and crawl my way back. Better than ever now. Keep going man.

  • @GabiBrooks

    Oh, another suggestion if I may: an analysis on Devin Townsend? I'm fascinated by how his scream kept getting better and better throughout his career. He says he can do it for a while but by the end of a tour he sounds like Homer Simpson so I'd imagine there is a certain amount of strain after a while (as with everything else), but still, he's one of the most consistent metal vocalists imo.

    We are being saved with your way to teach lml. What happens with Larynx when doing that third distortion you mentioned? mine goes up not sure if that's ok

    • @SterlingRJackson
      @SterlingRJackson  Pƙed rokem

      This depends on if you’re mixing and close or above your bridge. Mixing pushes the larynx back down. Distortion doesn’t necessarily effect the larynx position. The other things you’re doing do 😬

    Do ur voice get tired fast while singing this way? I know ur still recovering but i was wondering cause ive been singing fort a couple of years and kind of got the type of sound i love but i always get tired fast. Like it doesnt hurt at all uk? By the way ur content is simply awesome keep going man

    • @SterlingRJackson
      @SterlingRJackson  Pƙed rokem +5

      Thanks Xavier. Never hurts. That’s always a sign of something wrong. Tired though
 hmmm. It can get tiring but it depends on how much distortion you’re adding and for how long. You’ll find most good singers throughout a set will add more at first and later into the set pick and choose moments more instead of having a constant grit. Distorting lower can definitely wear my out physically more than higher. Any of that make sense?

    I'm both confused and also understanding everything you say. But ill say I have no idea if the sounds I'm making are right. I can sing clean, am I singing correctly? I have no idea. I just want to be able to finally add in some more aggression. And I'm still largely confused by this video and many others.i just have no idea what muscles are supposed to be targeted and what those muscles feel like.theres so many factors and I am just confused.

      This is why an in-person vocal coach is super important. It's obviously hard to find one that delves into distorted or aggressive vocals, but most of the techniques he's talking about in this video are the basics of singing that any decent teacher should show you. On that note, I HIGHLY recommend getting those basics down before ever trying distortion unless you want to hurt yourself while sounding like a dying cat. You should be able to sing across your range smoothly and cleanly and have a good idea of all the muscles involved and how they feel when doing different techniques and at different parts of your range. It's kind of like the saying, "You have to know the rules before you can break them."
