  • This is a comparison of the V3 Triton Amber bulbs and Type 2 Switchback bulbs vs the SMD LED Tower Amber and Type 1 Switchbacks that I bought several years ago at Autolumination.
    Please note that any timing blips when the turn signals are running are due to video edits. Also I installed Amber LEDs for the rear turn signals because I plan on replacing the red diffuser with a clear one.

    Thank you for this video. Nice comparison; also confirms that the stock bulbs are the absolute best for function and visibility.

      Keep in mind I have the diffusers removed. The Tritons are at least as bright as stock if not brighter based on personal experience. However I have not done a direct side by side comparison of stock to Triton V3.

    Thanks for the comparison, it may have just been the camera picking it up but I found the V3 Triton blurry, It would have been good to see what the light was like from the drivers point of view (how well one could see up the road what light pattern was like to see down the road .

    I did not get the load resistors that are offered by V-LEDs. When I first installed the tritons the white LEDs on the Drivers side would not function correctly (either would not light up or flickered constantly) when the car was running but was fine when the car was off. I put back in the 4 ohm 100 watt load resistor from the previous LEDs and that resolved the problem. The tritons on the passenger side function fine as purchased, no additional resistors were needed.

  • @SeanVanMeter
    @SeanVanMeter  Před 10 lety

    @hamscanner I can't reply directly to your post for some reason. The blurriness/halos around the lights are greatly exaggerated by the camera. I'm assuming you mean from a perspective of the person driving the car vs someone coming toward the car?

    I'm not 100% certain that there is not an impact to the turn signal output when using the 50% dimming. With that said, I didn't notice any output difference on the turn signal when using the dimming feature.

  • @vasekvi
    @vasekvi Před 11 lety

    Thanks for the review. I'm shopping for these now I had vled platinum and one crapped out. Questions with the 50% dimming feature does that affect both parking and turn signal? I would always want the turn signal at full brightness but yes you can see the parking lights do kind of overpower everything with the headlights on.

  • @NewShockerGuy
    @NewShockerGuy Před 10 lety

    How heavy are the tritons? They look like a really heavy bulb...almost like to much weight in the housing? Any issues with driving and going over bumps or chiming loose?

  • @SangheiliSpecOp
    @SangheiliSpecOp Před 9 lety +1

    I'm about to get these for my 2008 Mustang GT, along with some LED headlights/foglights (not from VLED) and some halo lights. I wonder how bright these will be in person, as I'm thinking that I'm not going to use that dimming wire. I live in Florida anyways, people have crazy bright lights on their cars here. I wonder if these LED's will be brighter than my new LED fogs/head lights. That would be pretty funny.
    So how are these Tritions working for you so far? Any problems with them at all?

    • @SeanVanMeter
      @SeanVanMeter  Před 9 lety

      Michelangelo Hamato I doubt they are brighter than that. What you could get is significantly more glare from them depending if you have a diffuser or if your turn signals are cleared (amber diffuser removed). The glare is why I used the reduced output. It's easy to do if you decide to use it.

    • @SangheiliSpecOp
      @SangheiliSpecOp Před 9 lety

      Sean Van Meter Alright, thanks for the reply. My turnsignal housings are aftermarket and barely have a reflector, plus the lens is smoked. I placed my order for the tritons and can't wait to get them! I have to somehow mount four small ballasts for the four halo rings, plus four more ballasts for the LED headlights and foglights, plus the triton control boxes and resistors. Should be fun!

    • @SeanVanMeter
      @SeanVanMeter  Před 9 lety

      Lol, dang that's a lot of stuff to mount. Used to run ccfl halos but the burnt out. Haven't gotten around to getting LED ones yet.

    How white are the 6000K? Do they have a hint of blue? Or a strong hue of blue? I order a 5000k but I dont know how that looks like either

    • @SeanVanMeter
      @SeanVanMeter  Před 7 lety

      To me the Triton 6K are more like 5K from other vendors . If there is a hint of blue it's minimal. I was actually hoping for a little more blue in them and not so white.

  • @adamcrowley990
    @adamcrowley990 Před 9 lety

    Which switchback light illuminates with the DRL's on (with parking lights off), white or amber? Im guessing the same white as those illuminated with the parking lights or are turn signal lights off altogether? It would love to have the amber illuminated dim with the DRL's on during normal driving without parking lams on.

    • @SeanVanMeter
      @SeanVanMeter  Před 9 lety

      I'm guessing this could vary with your car but here's my experience. If parking lights are off then nothing will illuminate on the switchbacks. The Amber will illuminate when using turn signal only. The white will illuminate when at least the parking lights are on. The dimmer wire, if you use it connects to the power lead for the high beam.

    • @adamcrowley990
      @adamcrowley990 Před 9 lety

      Sean Van Meter Sean, thanks for the response! I have a 07 TL-S. Love the VLED's just weighing my options for front turns in amber/white switchbacks or normal ambers. I like the look of the amber DRL's in other cars but havent had luck finding the 9005's in amber LED's for low voltage application like the DRL's.
      Also, is there a particular reason you got the amber for the tails instead of the reds?

    • @SeanVanMeter
      @SeanVanMeter  Před 9 lety

      Adam Crowley No problem! Are you on Acurazine? I'm on there but not very active anymore. My username is Buda. The reason for Amber lights on the rear is that "eventually" I plan to open up the tails and replace the red turn signal diffusers with the clear diffusers from the stock '06 Tails and wanted to run amber there instead of the stock red light.

    • @adamcrowley990
      @adamcrowley990 Před 9 lety

      Sean Van Meter Yes, i am, username abcrowle, not very active either. Use it a lot for simple mod items like this. I read through all 12 pages of the VLED turn signal mod where i came across your video. Very helpful and i will definitely reference for my install. Choosing between switchbacks and regular amber is my dilemma currently. Im not sure im sold on the white/amber switchbacks, I like the amber color on the corner of the turn signal lens. I know if i go white/amber switches i will have to remove the amber diffuser inside the corner of the light. Prefer to keep it basic and just switch out the bulbs for LED lights for a stock look.

    • @SeanVanMeter
      @SeanVanMeter  Před 9 lety

      Adam Crowley Yeah, if you leave in the amber diffuser with the white light it'll look yellow. As for the 9005 bulbs I've seen some yellow LED ones from Diode Dynamics but no Amber ones.

  • @brandonherrera2891
    @brandonherrera2891 Před 7 lety

    Any risk on running these? By that, I mean like melting the factory wiring?

    • @SeanVanMeter
      @SeanVanMeter  Před 7 lety +1

      No risk that I know of. The only thing you should be aware of is that if you use their in line load resistor, then you should not have any other load resistors on the Turn Signal circuit. Also if you've done the turn signal relay mod (involves opening up the turn signal relay, removing the shunt resistor and installing new resistors) to prevent hyper flash instead of doing load resistors, you don't want that mod and load resistors combined as that can fry the turn signal relay.

    did you need resistors?

    • @SeanVanMeter
      @SeanVanMeter  Před 8 lety

      +Jesse Koontong For the initial revision of the Tritions I did need a load resistor on 1 side as it didn't transition between white and amber correctly. I had already done the LED blinker mod to prevent hyper blinking so didn't need a load resistor for that. I now have the current revision of the V3 Triton switchbacks and they have improved the design so I didn't need a load resistor at all.

    • @fatfreshstudio
      @fatfreshstudio Před 8 lety

      +Sean Van Meter Thanks for the quick reply. I just got my v3 tritons today and unfortunately I ended up having hyperblink...

    • @SeanVanMeter
      @SeanVanMeter  Před 8 lety

      +Jesse Koontong You will if you are moving to LEDs from incandescent. You can either do a load resistor or a blinker mod to the turn signal controller. Some places sell the modify blinker controller for specific cars. What is your car?

    • @fatfreshstudio
      @fatfreshstudio Před 8 lety

      Yes they were incandescents. I'm probably just gonna get the resistors from VLEDS. Thanks for the info though I appreciate it.
