This video demonstrates how to install standard LED resistors in order to slow down LED turn signals. Resistors and LED bulbs available from Diode Dynamics! Give us a call with any questions 314-205-3033 or email contact@diodedynamics.com
Despite widespread misinformation, quick splices are a reliable solution for the purpose highlighted here. NOTE: Please don't tell people to solder. If you do not have proper tools and experience, you will do a very poor job, and the connection will simply crack and break within weeks of installation.

Thanks for watching!

Thanks for actually showing putting the wires into the clip. Every other video I have watched goes away, and comes back with "and it's that simple."
We're glad to help!
Wouldn't it make more sense to build the resistors into the bulbs?
As easy as the installation is, you have explained it the best, very clear and concise instruction with a very clear video view. Many thanks.
Just want to say I just fixed my hyper blinking bulbs following these directions. Thank you!
I installed the resistors today on my front led turn signals & now my front and rear signals work perfectly " Thanks Paul for the help..
This is the only clear installation instruction on how to install those resistor splice connectors. Well done. But in my search I also discovered that instead of using in line resistors like this one can often modify the flasher relay to eliminate the hyper-blink. I would suggest looking into modifying the relay for your particular car instead of putting resistors on all four corners. Good luck.
X Gempler, we also carry flasher modules that will solve any hyperblinking! For many vehicles, flasher modules are built into the vehicle computer, making it impossible to simply swap it out with a modified flasher. For those vehicles, resistors will be the only way to corrent hyper blinking. Feel free to shoot us an email at contact@diodedynamics.com and we can help you determine whether or not resistors or a flasher module is necessary. Thanks!
Yes, that is true, but it is also the case that many cars have flasher relay modules that can be easily modified to eliminate hyper-flashing without any expense of a new relay, or worse, wiring in resistors. It is best for people to search their favorite car forum for the specifics of their car before wasting money on something they may not need.
Worked Perfect for my car, put the turn signal back to normal blinking pattern! great product and highly recommend!
+Sy | Quit, thanks for the support!
Straight to the point awesome!
+christina phongsavath, thanks for the support!
For vehicles with a flasher relay, it's MUCH easier to just replace it with an ADJUSTABLE RATE FLASHER. Maintains lower current draw and adjustable rate knob is very nice!
Best video I’ve seen that goes into detail for installing a resistor. Great job man.
Thank you! We're glad to hear you found it helpful!
I appreciated the video man I had no idea how to install these things, even with an electrical technical support background. Good job.
Darth Cocoabeans, glad we could be of help!
Thanks for the video, it helped alot.
I used 50W, 6ohm load resistors for a 97 grand am and my turn signals work great. For quick install tips:
1. blue - power, black - ground
2. back and front load resistors must be installed for one side to work properly. Both sides must be installed before all 4 turn signals are working properly.
3. back turn signals - yellow - power, black - ground.
Hope this helps,
Just did this to my 1996 Mercedes G320 with 50W resistors, works like a charm, thanks!
No problem! We're glad the video helped!
I just install my 1157 LOAD RESISTORS 50w 6OHM. It was real easy. After installing it, I had a bit of a problem. It was still hyper-bliking. I took some steps back and made sure everything was properly connected. I then "Re-Pinch" the "Slice" all the way down )it was half way in). Then it worked like a champ.
You must pinch the slice all the way down!!! (Flush) for it to work!!!
Thanks again. DIY video for resistors.
Best video I found on the resistor installation, especially since I have the exact same kind of wires.. I was getting confused with other other videos because they had more than 2 or they didn't show it in more detail. Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words, Dustin! We're glad you found the video helpful!
I've been looking for a short video like this that explains how to use these resistors so I could switch to LED turn signals, but had not found one that showed or explained it as well as yours. I now feel comfortable in making the change myself. Thank you very much. Can I recommend or in some way attach this video to the Kia Optima Forum so that others might benefit?
+Jim Roth-Roffy Thanks for your support! You can certainly link to this video on the forum.
"Solder if you can", were my exact words. I can (very well) so I did. Cracking is due to a "cold solder", like you said is a poor job. But minimal tools can give a solder joint that will last indefinitely. But like you said, again, you have to know how.
Quick splices are very good for the purposes here. Please don't tell people to solder- if you do not have proper tools and experience, you will do a very poor job and it will simply crack and break within weeks of installation.
I soldered my back directional lights with an inline resistor ok - I used heat shrink - I will see how long it lasts I guess - I don't expect the joint to break but you may know something I don't.
Thank you for this video ! all the adverts for these resistors were stating a connection in series !! I was trying to work out why it wouldn't be parallel but you've just confirmed my expectation ;0) .. Cheers ..
Thanks for the helpful guide!
The "bench test" indicates that they should be about the same brightness. However, we won't be sure until we install and take exact comparison photos. Thanks! -Paul
I just installed new LED tail light assemblies on my truck. But now I'm hyperflashing and have no running lights. Do I use four resistors and splice into both my turn signal and brake or just use two resistors and splice into one of the two?
Great Video!!! Do i have to put a resistor on each led turnsignal or is just 1 enough ?
Awesome vid man helped me alot
Awesome and very helpful video, thank you.
Great video bro! The best part is "Even if you got the bulbs from us or not we will be happy tp help up install your resistors" Good karma for u brother!
thanks for the help. you made my install alot easier!!
This video was a lot of help. Thanks
excellent video and description. well done!
Where did you get the bulbs? Often, poorly-designed knockoff bulbs don't have any switchback function actually built in, and they work like that.
@funnymanseven, if you have a dual filament bulb as your turn signal (7443) then use a test light to determine which is your blinking wire, either that or your resistors aren't enough or not making good contact
Worked great, thanks for the explanation!
ahhh man that looked so easy but I'm sure I would mess that up - I want to order some Switchback turn signals for my 14 Altima - they even did a video on Switchbacks on my car
I was wondering if you’ve had a scenario where one side blinks fast while the other is normal after installing the resistors? After installing a resistor on each bulb, one side blinks fast except when swapping out the LED at either the front or rear for an incandescent bulb.
Great video.

THANKS A LOT GUYS VERY GOOD INFORMATION, WELL DONE.
I take the blinker on my chevy s10 open it and add resistance on the spring they work awsome ;-)
Glad this helped Miguel! :)
I liked the hyper blink over the slower blink...
+Tony Patalano, some people do prefer the hyper-blink, and this will have no negative effects on your vehicle!
Mr. Kitty I like the hyper flashing as well
The thing is that its probably not legal... Atleast in Norway there is rules about how fast the can blink..
The Gaming Norwegian yeah it's probably illegal in most areas, because it mimicks a strobe light
I think I like it too. It does get attention better. And I think I read it is legal to 120/minute. I have read a couple of references to a statutes that say that it should be 60 to 120.
That was easy, any ideas on how to mount the resistor on metal? I dont want to be drilling holes throughout my car
This was super useful. ! Thanks
My new bumper doesn’t have fog lights, what do i need to make it think the ecu theres bulbs ? As im getting error on cluster and I don’t want to put a bulb? What do i need? Thanks

cengeb, very interesting detail to point out. I also seem to worry about things such as this when doing mods to my vehicles. Question, has this stopped you from using these bulb in your vehicle? For me cost is a factor in some of the replacements. Thanks for your input.
Just a thought I had while watching this... if you attached your regular bulb in the line under the hood it would have the same effect because the incandescent bulb would give the needed resistance to the standard flasher unit. Of course you would have that bulb flashing on and off under the hood of the car :)
Must've been reading my mind because I surely needed help with installing load resistors on my altima. I just need to know which wire is my turn/parking light
This might be an obvious question but im just checking; Does the more Ohm's the resistor mean slower blink rate?
Since I am leaning toward allowing my LEDs to hyper-flash I did some research. It appears that fast flashing is a good thing. A 1975 study by David V. Post for the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin says "high flash frequencies and minimum flash duration should provide the best conspicuity and smallest response times." Easier to see and gets faster response from the drivers that need see and respond to them. Not trying to sway anyone, just thought it was interesting.
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing the info John!
It's usually the solid color, green or blue. Depends on your vehicle though. 50/50 shot!
Those LEDs are very bright. Are the Stage 2 Switchbacks that bright?
If you only do this with the rear(replacing with LED's) Can you have regular incandescent bulbs in the front or do you need to do leds on all signal lights?
Hi Jef! You should only need resistors on the turn signal bulbs you've upgraded to LED.
So you just have 2 wires together, and tap, dont need to cut the rubber cover from the resistor out?
Very helpful, thanks!
you connects one end of the load to positive and another end to the negative? wow I would never figure that out. no one bother to show me either. thanks for the vid
Why is the resistor 50W when the bulb is less than 25W? Could the job be done with a 25W resistor, and be cooler?
Because the halogen bulb used it 55W and the LED unit is typically 5W... if I understand correctly.
a big help thanks pal
I just finished completely rewiring my 1948 Willy's Jeep. Upgraded stop, tail and turn lights to LED with new electronic flasher. Installed a turn signal switch by Grote to integrate turn and brake light functions. Charged the battery to 12.6 volts. Now when I test, all systems work fine when operated individually. Also, Brake light works together with either head/tail lights, or when turn lights are on. Problem is, turn lights will not operate when head/tail lights are on at the same time. If the turn signals are on, and I turn on the tail lights, then the turn signals stop. If the tail lights are on, then the turn signals simply will not come on. I have confirmed that each light fixture is wired correctly. The head/tail light circuit is completely separate from the turn and brake light circuits (different fuses and wires). From reading the posts below, the electronic flasher should allow the system to work without wiring in load resistors. Any ideas? Thanks.
+DAGNUBIT, unfortunately, it's hard to say exactly what the issue is, since the Jeep has been completely rewired. We would recommend making sure that the electronic flasher that you purchased is LED compatible, either an LED compatible flasher or resistors should accomplish the same task. Both are used to simply eliminate hyperblinking. Hope that helps. Good luck with the rest of your build!
I spliced my cables however, while splicing, one of the quick connector clips (the clip that goes over the metal piece used to splice) broke and it's only the t-tap without the secure clip. I made sure that the connection was secure and put electrical tape around it so that the connection remains secure, but I'm just wondering if that will last. I'm worried that it will lose connection because of the broken off clip. Thanks!
Paul, Please Would You Tell Us What Res. To Use? No One Has Yet Told Us What Type Res. To Use? Thanks, WW
Sweet! I'll be placing my order this week ;-)
-Jorge
You also have to make sure that those load resistors aren't touching something that will melt or burn because they get HOT.
im guessing the black wire is my ground but I don't know which of the other 2 wires are for the blinker and for the taillight/breaklight
Please make a video how to install the led resistor on golf mk6 tail lights because the wiring is confusing. Thx
Thanks for instructions, however i have similar resistors but with 2 wires on each end of resistor, do both wires do same thing , ie can i use for stop/ tail light elements ??.
I tried to connect a resistor to my Audi TT. But they have two bulbs powered by one wire. Connecting a resister to the one still had my blinkers running too fast. Does each bulb need it's own resistor??
Cheer.
I am installing load resistors for my Toyota Tacoma. It will be the front signals so I have to put them in under the hood somewhere. What happens if they get wet during the rain?
Lol definitely an Elise, notice the bungee cord? It holds the turn signal in... Ya... TADTS! Luckily my Exige turn signal hasn't had that issue yet. Good laugh, thank you for video.
diodedynamics.... I've installed resistors on back light on my car, and I've 1 problem. resistor is getting too too hot, even I can't touch it. it happens after 2 minutes. is that a problem? or it must get hot?
You said it is OK to mount to hard plastic. Please confirm that as every other video says mount only to metal. Thank you, good video.
Hi John, thanks for reaching out! Though we strongly recommend mounting to metal whenever possible, it is ok to mount to hard plastic if necessary, assuming no rubber or wire is located close by.
My cruze seemed to work fine until i signaled, then they started turning on and off randomly and blinking different colors. Resisters fixed my issue.
Even hyper flashing is solved, dashboard PC always shows bulbs check error. Is any solution how to trick CAN bus check? Anything else then load resistors?
Will this also work if the LED turns on but don't blink when using the turn signals? And the LEDS turn on as soon as I plug them in even though the lights are off.
I have 3157 LEDs and I added load resistors but I still have a message on my dash that says "Park Lamp Out" How do I remove that? I was told maybe I need another pair of load resistors or a flasher. Please Help. Thanks
Great tutorial, thanks!!!!!!
We're glad we could help!
I spliced my green striped wire and the black one... and i left the brown one alone... But the signals are still hyper blinking. Now im trying to isolate the problem, did I splice the wrong wires?
I got load resistors for my car and i have the led switchbacks..but everytime i have my headlights on and turn on the signal light the white light stays on. But its supposed to turn off when the signal is flashing...do you know how to fix that?
How did you mount your resistors? Could double sided tape work, or zipties?
Was wondering, do they stay hot or only when turn signal is being used? Are they too hot to put a zip tie around? Installing them on a 2013 Nissan altima and was curious so I know where to put them. Thanks my fellow CZcamsrs
Did you ever figure this out? I'd assume only when the light is in use.
moNYTx wow, it's been a while since then. I just zip tie to frame behind the carpet. Had no issues
mike216ism
yeah I saw the 2 years lol. thanks brother
HELP! on my resistor i have two females at one end and two males at the other end. how do i connect it to my turn signals? i have a motorcycle
Hi. This is a great video. Just one simple question though. What happens if you just leave it hyperblinking? I like it the way it is as I customize my car a lot. Thanks
+HaCkErZ931, if you leave your vehicle hyperblinking, there will be no negative effects!
Diode Dynamics Awesome! Thanks! I'll make sure to link this video to my facebook chat. Got a lot of guys that are switching to brighter LED Turn signals.
I want to replace my halogen bulbs with LEDs on my 1980 motorcycle.
What type of resistors and bulbs should I get? I also live in Canada Look forward to your answer as I also want to install fog lights that also replacing the halogens on them also..All are H4 and I have not yet investigated what the markers bases are for those lights to replkace. Thanks! Age
What year is your Altima? You might be able to just get the flash relay for LED from Autozone.
whats if theres a red green and black wire? which one is ground and turn signal?
Yes.
One Resistor to each Bulb??? or Just one Resistor should be enough for both Tail Lights??
I have toytoa solara 1999 in the front I have 3 wire for signal light I need know which one have spill and do I need two and two in back
Installing led turn signals on a 2012 Yamaha FZ8 but they blink fast. How do I know what resister to use?
Thought I posted a comment, but guess I didn't. Anyways, I installed a 9005 LED bulb and it seems dim and flickers. If I add the resistor, will it end the flicker and increase the brightness?
i had one question i have an 2007 impala but dont know how to install resistor for led turn signals. i have 3 wires black, red and yellow, would like to know wich cables to use. thanks
i have a 2009 ford fusion so i can buy the led brake light and install it . or i will have too buy a reseistore too.it is brake light and tun signal too. can you let me know
thank you very much for your information I will take that in consideration but in the meantime I also found that the tail lights do not come on so I'm wondering if it is a fuse that's the culprit
+old school, make sure the bulbs you purchased are dual filament bulbs, and have low and high power. Once you confirm that, it could be a fuse issue. Without being familiar with the bulbs you purchased, it is hard to say what the cause is exactly.
Dear sir I have a problem. After changing stock bulbs to led indicators, and then when I give right indicator all the 4 les will blink. This happens even when I switch to left. What is the solution for this

So I installed LED Brake/Blinker lights in my 2017 Grand Cherokee. Inside the car it's hyper blinking but my turn signal outside blinks normal speed. Any idea what this means?
Thats what they do, resist load! They can get so hot they can light a match! Keep them away from plastic or rubber
i was install resistor in my car .. but i need to know if its problem .. when i start the light for 5 or 10 minutes i cant tuch it .. its so soo hot it can damage plastic .. so is it normal or not
Doesn't work on my Spectra. I tried diferent combinations of wires and none of them worked . What should I do? How can I fix it ?
I installed the 6ohm in my dual filament light in my 2011 highlander and it stopped the fast flash when the parking lights were off, but when I turned the parking lights on, the turn signal went back to fast flash. Any thoughts?
i have a 98 chevy blazer i changed my 3157 bulb to a blue led light but the problem was the indicators inside stayed faintly lit when the signal was off and also my 194 bulb (Standard bulb)will go dim wat causes this problem
do you have side markers on your car that blink? that's what screwed up my switchbacks
“Great job!!!!!”
When adding an led strip to your turning signal lights, is there a way to make it so the added led light act as ONLY running lights and not act as a sequence turning signal?
If you have 3 wires coming out of the turn signal, yes. Or you can hook up a relay so it just turns on when the key goes 'on'
How do I know what wattage resistor to buy? Where can I find it in my owner's manual?
my 2007 chevy avalanche has a brown wire a yellow wire and a black wire where do I put the resistors
