  • Wallace and Gromit is a franchise that is near and dear to my heart (and my address!) And yet somehow, it has been years and years since the last movie. Somehow the studio's mainline movie, hasn't had an update. Probably because it's financially been eclipsed by the likes of Chicken Run and Shaun The Sheep. But nonetheless, this year they're back! And the details have begun to release regarding the story for this Christmas' delight. I'm unsure how my very american audience responds to Wallace & Gromit, so this video is somewhat of a test, but come join me as we discuss the potential new grounds (and very fitting territory) as news has dropped that Aardman's New Wallace & Gromit Movie Is About AI...

    2. One of the people who worked on Chicken Run 2 is the youtuber Andymations - the guy known for his flipbooks. Well, long story short, I worked for Andy on two of his flipbook commercials that you can see on his channel (the retro one that's a parody on 90s cereal commercials and the apocalyptic one). He actually had to push back the unveiling of one of them while he went overseas to work on Chicken Run 2! =]

    The best bit about Aardman films is their sense of humour.
    They are pretty much (with very few exceptions, even amongst UK programmes and films) the only studio producing stuff with dry and subtle wit in their scripts. I get so tired of jokes that are written and delivered in a very obvious way like The Big Bang Theory or The Simpsons. The best type of jokes in my opinion are the ones you really have to listen and look out for, because it makes them that much funnier when you come across them. Not to mention all the films and series of the past that they constantly reference.

    Wallace and Grommit is so quintessentially English, that's why I love it so much.
    Why does he invent gadgets?? Because he is the ultimate man-in-a-shed, cutting and welding and screwing together until he emerges with a contraption that provides a solution to whatever situation vexed him in life.
    There is a reason Bond relies so heavily on Q and his inventions. Wallace is a Q for the Midlands.

    I believe that recent stop motion suffers from 3d printing. It blurs the line between that hand craft look and the computer generated look too seamlessly, removing some of the charm. I understand 3d printing is a necessary tool but it brings a look that says “ I came from a computer “ . I always thought of Ardman as clay and Liaka as CAD performers, and that’s what distinguishes the two.

  • @e-122psi3
    @e-122psi3 Před 4 měsíci

    Also, yeah, you do make an interesting point about the plot. I think the reason I found Loaf and Death kinda underwhelming was because it felt like a rehash of the formula the previous works done (the duo take up a new job, Wallace meets a love interest who intertwines him in a villainous scheme, who targets Wallace while trying to get Gromit out of the way somehow, Gromit gets revenge and saves the day, helped by a sidekick that the villain bullied previously). This wasn't as noticable beforehand since the earlier works had unique plot beats, but by that point I was starting to notice the repetition, and only after FOUR shorts.
    The idea with the 'Smart Gnome' sounds interesting since it comes off less connected to this formula and like you said, is more intertwined with Wallace's actual inventing knack, which might even develop on that side to him. At least it sounds closer to a full length version of the Cracking Contraptions vignettes, with Wallace making an invention that inevitably turns on him.

Now that you've given these details regarding this next movie, I am all for seeing it! :D The idea that it might be a commentary on AI (which is beginning to scare me a bit) as well as Wallace's obsession with invention does seem like something the franchise has never done before.
