Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If your into being off-grid and boondocking whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations. Come on along, we're happy to have your company!

I’m from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦. I’m 78 by the way and when I was a child my mom always made coffee the “cowboy” coffee way. We had no electric or running water. Had a beautiful cook stove in the kitchen and that’s all you could smell in the morning was the coffee.
Mary, that's a beautiful memory. Thank you for sharing it.
Very interesting! We sure are spoiled! However, both my parents both grew up with no electricity or running water.
This has to e the most important video you've ever put up!
Love Linda’s sense of humor.
You guys are never uninteresting.
A pinch of salt in the grounds helps eliminate bitterness. The wife and I regularly do cowboy coffee. No filters needed and only one cooking implement needed (a pot of some sort), so it is the perfect "primitive" method for making mud of life.
I stopped using paper filters completely. I hate the taste of them.
Now, I make cold brew and only use paper filters in conjunction with my other filters just to strain out the fine particles. I don't ever use paper filters for cooking coffee because they taste so bad in the coffee.
I learned as a kid to use a pinch of salt to cut the bitter from my granny.
I don't think I'd use eggshells because of the higher chance of ecoli.
At the home of coffee drink, in Africa tribes used to add salt too. Guess western culture added the sugar.
I always prepare our breakfast coffe in the evenings !
Electric programming set at 15 minutes before the wake up alarm goes off
so that method is great because we smell the coffe ready and that is a great method to start the days !Works every time !
I get to play coffeemaker in the mornings so that Linda can experience what you just said.
@@gonagain
Great if you prepare all stuff in the evening anyhow so you kind of just be the timer )))!
Me too.
Coffee and beautiful scenery!! Life is good!
My husband and I are big coffee drinkers, We love foldgers and drink it all day
👍 Thanks for the info...
Me. Black Rifle ,Freedom Roast, cream Sweet n low(diabetic) ☕
My Grandpa taught us kids, the secret to really good cowboy coffee was a good, used boot sock. This kept me from trying coffee for many years. I'm making up for lost time, in my old age :)
Oh geez that's funny! I think that would have put me off for awhile too.
That's funny, carry on making up lost time!
lol that's hillarous
I'll still use my old Coleman camp percolator we've camped with for decades but I'll start timing it and not let it perk past four minutes. In fact, I might try three minutes on the first pot jus to see how strong it is at that point.
Fresh coffee and home made fresh bread
That sounds good.
@@gonagain add some Hills Bros cappachino & it'll be super great. Especially before bedtime!
Nothing like a good cup of coffee plus biscuit, sausage, eggs and jelly. When I was young we poured our coffee in a cup and then would pour it in a saucer and drink it out of the saucer, how many people remember that. I sure do. Back in the old days coffee was boiled in a pot and was scalding hot. People didn’t have time to wait for it to cool, they had work to do and that’s where the saucer came in to play. Good video and I can smell that coffee brewing. Take care
I remember but I’m old
I remember my dad doing that back in the 50s. I'm old too.
Your killing me!
Add white beans and it sounds like breakfast with my grandfather. Miss those times.
That’s the second most interesting coffee making video I’ve ever seen. I grew up drinking powdered milk.....I’m not bitter.☝🏻
I got a caffeine buzz just watching this .
Never knew the 4 minute rule, thanks will try!
Sooo funny when Linda said, "Haha!" Love!!!
As a coffee drinker, I so appreciate this kind of video, and I learned something about Cowboy Coffee, so thank you. I'm a heavy whipping cream kind of gal, so a couple of tablespoons makes all the difference for me. I'm glad to be one of those who also looks forward to my coffee the night before! I just subscribed, and look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thank you for subscribing Debra. It's good to know I'm not the only one who thinks of coffee as I fall asleep!
I am a fan of cowboy coffee myself.
Love my morning coffee when out camping. Thanks for the tips.
Fresh brew and a camp fire and a beautiful day, who could ask for more! Get the sound...
I love my coffee too & think about it sometimes before following asleep at night.
I'm not the only one!!!
Grounds in coffee = some thing to eat, and some thing to drink.
I just spent 3 hours cleaning the driveway of 8" of snow.froze my butt off, this was the first thing that I did when I got inside made me a pot of perked coffee. great video I will have to try this. 👍
I perked right up when i saw my fav word coffee ,great info that keeps us happy and grounded so to speak, big hugs from MN Thank you
Thank you too Dan.
I love a mug in the morning. Looking forward to your tips.
Well dang, now I need a cup of coffee! Thanks for the info.
im 64 and two years ago i retired and one of the things i did right away was buy a small camper. 18f used it as my hunting camp for 9 days and one of the things i never got right was coffee in the morning.......i am sure i went to long with old percolator pot! Now i have two new ways to try out, thanks for sharing. Always entertaining to watch you two.
I hope one of our coffee making methods works out for you Arnold!
I grew up boiling the coffee in the water but I'm going to try it your way
Great video! I sat and had a cup with you.
Thanks for sharing... must start the day with a few cups of good coffee, both good methods
There is nothing better than camp coffee, no matter how you make it. But I prefer the pour over method. Now I need some coffee.😃
Very interesting and educational. When Outright camping I use my percolator and when using the RV with power I use my drip. Very interested in The last method you demonstrated. Grew up on cowboy coffee and yes it was not the way we did it and you are right it wasn’t that good .👊👍😎
_I love my percolator, old school!_
Very cute. Loved it!
Get an old hand crank coffee grinder. Grind the beans right before use. You'll find you made an even better cup of coffee. I do this every morning for my pour through.
Cofffeeee! ☕️
Coffee or water are the only two beverages I drink on a daily basis.
Sometimes sugar free Gatorade (summer) or tea (Green)
I look forward to that first cup...and the sunrise. 👍👍
For me, it’s black or half and half. Black only before noon. After noon, hah ok, as I consider coffee then to be dessert.😁☕️
NOW...I think I’ll go make a pot of cafe bustello...mmm
Thank you for the information I love my coffee too
As far as adding cream to coffee goes, I prefer "table" cream, which is 18%. I was told that this is the type of cream that some coffee shops use to make a richer tasting coffee, I agree. Your cowboy coffee looks delightful 😍
I just had the table cream treatment recently and refused a second cup. It was too good and I didn't want it to become a habit!
Ok thank you so much saw the video on the stovetop I’m going to put one on my table!
You're welcome!
Thank you for explaining both ways that you made the coffee they both sound good
You are so welcome!
Very educational. I remember when I was a child having the task of spooning boiling water from the saucepan onto a French drip porcelain coffee pot. It had to be added by the spoonful because the strainer held so little water. It was a slow process. Quite a ritual y’all go through for a cup.
I've never seen it done that way! I remember the electric Sunbeam percolator sitting in the middle of the table as a kid though.
I'm not even a coffee drinker and I enjoyed this post
Thank you, C Otter!
I worked at an A&P during college. I loved to grind the customers' coffee, but I didn't like coffee's taste. Survived Navy coffee as essential equipment. Married an Italian who approaches coffee like an oenophile approaches wine. Now, I have to try the 4-minute cowboy method next outing. (I drink coffee only when camping.) Thanks, guys. You're the greatest.
Thats Linda's favorite coffee, cowboy coffee done right.
This has to be the most important video you've ever put up!
I wonder if you ever tried Tim Hortons coffee, as I live in alberta canada, many people here enjoy that brand. I prefer McDonalds coffee more now, from any fast food. My wife is in Indiana at this moment and she just told me she kept her old "timmies" coffee container from here for years now. She said some states actually have Tim Hortons in the usa now.
Hi Jay, I've heard of it many times but have never seen it. McDonalds used to sell Seattle's Best and that's how we started using it, now theirs is different but still not too bad, especially if you're traveling.
You are great guys!
I have never seen coffee made like Linda made. It’s 5:30pm and still 95 in Northern CA and watching her make that cowboy coffee makes wish for morning to get here quickly. I use the pour over method but I’ll surely try the CC soon. Thank you for sharing ☕️
We're currently camped and are surrounded by beautiful scenery and... cows, but we happen to be enjoying a mug of that coffee right now.
Good stuff,,, cheers on the brew,,, be well out there!
Can't do better than coffee out in the fresh air doing what you love! I have used the Clever Dripper for years at home (have an extra one when company is over) and van camping. Got rid of the coffee pot even at home. Love pour overs! If hiking I use a collapsible cone. I always use filtered water just at 200 degrees and by the time I'm pouring it is perfect. 4 minutes is what I wait for a lighter roast and 3 minutes for med or dark. When you grind your own beans, your stored coffee stays fresh longer. Grind right before using for best flavor!
We'd love to share a cup of yours with you!
Thanks for the gr vid
Good Info to know...can't wait to try it.
That looks so much more refined than the last time you made ME your cowboy coffee....had plenty grounds lmao
What a beautiful setting to enjoy coffee and each other though ❤️
Well, today I taught your daughter to make great coffee so see if you can get her to make you a cup!
Boil water. Remove from fire. Let boil settle. Add coffee and let float. When grinds become saturated gently pour cold water on top of grinds starting at center and circle pouring until grind sink. If any stubborn grinds remain tap until they sink. Stick horseshoe into pot and if if it stands up its ready to drink. Thanks for a video, will subscribe.
I wasn't aware of the horseshoe trick but will keep my eyes peeled for a good one, not too worn out.
I’ll be trying this in the morning, thanks. ☕️
Update, I made the cowboy coffee the morning and it was great! I’m always looking for a good cup of coffee! Thanks for posting.
Glad you liked it Cvx 2dog!
My better half & I have recently discovered your channel & you've quickly become one of our favorites. We learned that we have a lot in common with you. I'm formerly from northwestern Montana & my Connie is from Kaneohe, Oahu. We currently reside in Tacoma, Wa. & will soon be RVing full time. We hope to 1 day meet you on the road.
Welcome aboard farrellvanderhoef! That's funny because we used to live in the Seattle area ourselves.
Coffee is my "life sustaining fluid". Enjoyed teh video.
Oooh.. la la. Yes please. This is wonderful.. thanks for sharing. Love you two and all you very informative videos !!
Happy Trails
Thank you Michelle!
We have a very simple one switch on/off Mr.Coffee elec.machine in our travel trailer... which we use on electric in campgrounds , when camping though we use it in a non-electric drip mode ..Millie boils water in a pan on the stove and pours it over the coffee grinds in the MR. Coffee machine . But rather than do that in the morning , Millie makes a pot of coffee before she goes to bed and puts it in our incredible Nissan thermos bottle ..stays nice and hot till morning... and it's easy clean up ,just chuck the coffee filter/grinds in the trash .
I can see that you guys have this down to a science!
Thank you....coffee fun and knowledge.....t
Cheers to all of that!
Thanks y'all. Gonna try this in the morning-no cream or sugar for me though! 🙏✌🌎💞
What a great and useful video. Can't wait to try it. Thanks!
Funny, I'm watching this Video as I Attack my Fourth Cup of 'Vincenzo's Magic', Special Formula. Love the Cowboy Brew Linda, I'm with ya on that one. But the Acid is a Killer and the filter's really do their job. Top of the Morning to you Both. ☕🥇
Same to you Erik!
I bought a Clever Coffee Dripper back when you did this video. It is now my favorite way to get a cup brewed, it handles the 18 oz carafe I use.
Just having a cup now as I type this. Glad you like it!
Also what makes the coffee taste extra good is who you're enjoying it with. I don't mind either method but I do like mine with 1 spoon of raw sugar and half n half or whipping cream. Wish it wasn't 8 pm, I want some now! 😂
Lol! Your mama can drink it any time.
Mmmm... Coffee... ☕
The best!
Thank you for the video .
Love this couple!
Oh man! Can’t wait to try these methods🙌🏽🙌🏽 Thank you both for sharing😊. I have a regular pour over but I’ll be sure and upgrade to the one you guys have to allow for the 4 minutes. I’ll always remember 4 now😊 Wow, 7 shots😳 Not only would I be wired & shaky, I’d also need a toilet, stat!😅🤣🤣 🤙🏽❤️
Yay! I see you’ve added the link to the pour over. Ordering it now!🙏🏽
You're going to like that.
@@gonagain 👍🏽
@@gonagain Just ordered from your link. Will let you guys know how I like it😊
Great information- thank you
Put coffee in the pot, add two whole raw eggs, fill with water and place the pot on the fire. Bring the water just to the boil and turn off the heat. Let steep until the grounds settle. The calcium in the egg shells neutralizes the acid so that I can drink several cups on an empty stomach. And I have boiled eggs for lunch!
There ya go! Thanks for the tip Gail1984!
You guys are awesome. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Thanks for watching Zaur! We appreciate you coming along.
Thanks guys. Great job. Good info.
Our pleasure! Thanks Ward.
You all are so interesting! Thanks for the tips!
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching, Mia.
I have never heard of cowboy coffee or making coffee like this I'm going to have to try it thank you so very much for sharing
Never ever saw somebody make a vid about coffee before, but I drink it everyday an learned some new things that I didn't know. Alls I've ever known was an old style percolator ( still have it ) an a Mr. Coffee maker. See you can, teach an old dog new tricks, thx for the vid.
Thanks for watching William!
I learned to make the “bush coffee” correctly when I was a teenager from an “old-timer” (I think he was about 35 - It’s all about the perspective). Loved the video. It brought back lots of memories.
I enjoyed your latest video "Fun with Photography at Mesa Falls, Idaho". Great tips on getting good shots!
@@gonagain - Thank you.
Great info!
Excellent video keep it up Thanks
Great video! We have always use a percolator I our camp stove. I am going to have to try the cowboy coffee!
Good information Rick, I always look each day to see if you have a a new video up, keep them coming.
Thank you Bud!
Loved it thanks guys
Our pleasure Bob, thanks for watching!
As usual you have a great video, but you probably did not realize the beautiful sky line in the background, good job.
I'm drinking a cup of Seattle's Best 5th Ave Bistro (dark roast) as I watch this although as a change of pace I like Yuban dark roast also.
I've never had the Yuban Dark, might have to give that a try.
Love this! I geek out over camp coffee all the time. My favorite is the Aeropress
We like the Aeropress too and use it often. We learned that it performs best with coarse ground coffee.
Nothing like a good cup of coffee while camping. Have a great week.
Thank you Rob! Minus 17F at the moment and we just hitched up to take the trailer in and get three other side leaf spring replaced.
@@gonagain Wow that's cold. Wonder just how many miles you've put on that trailer over the years (: Always fun to see you and Linda on your adventures. Take care
I'm not sure how many miles we have on it, but I'm going to just replace all the bearings to be safe.
OMB! I've been making cowboy coffee wrong! Boiling in a pot..straining through a cheese cloth. Also I have a Mellita single cup filter but if the grounds are to small, it clogs up. Tomorrow I will try the Gonagain Cowboy Coffee Method. Thanks! 😉 Cheers ☕! ☮❤🕉
Be sure and report back Macgyver!
@@gonagain Reporting back 🤣 Perfect! 4 minute wait was a test of endurance for a coffee addict 😉 Added organic 1/2 & 1/2 and a few drops of monkfriut. ☕ m m m
I feel the same way about my coffee, thinking about my morning cup when I go to bed. And yes, I have an afternoon cup too. But I learned something today, and I'll be trying out both methods you demonstrated. Thanks forr the lesson!
You're welcome Wanda!
Good video... nice to see others out there that appreciate little things like a good cup of coffee....my morning coffee has been the only reason I get up for a long time now!
I have to agree, it does make getting up easier!
Thanks for the great video. I'll be trying cowboy coffee soon!
Thank you for watching Cal, I hope that coffee does the trick.
Thanks for sharing this information, interesting tid bit
Time for a cup?
Well i learned something -4mins. I love the french press when camping, but going to try your technique. Thanks.
There's a difference and you're going to love it. Thanks William!
Very informative. Thanks.
Thanks for watching Ed!
Thanks for sharing your secret!
Great info. I have been using an old style peculator when camping. I will try the little funnel method soon. Speaking of cold back in Montana... It was 23 below at my house in Emigrant this morning. However, it is so beautiful with the fresh snow.
You live in a beautiful area.
Just got a Bodum french press and the instructions also said let grounds set in water for 4 minutes before pressing to the bottom 👍
Wait. It took us years to learn that and all I had to do was read the directions?!!!
Very Interesting! I usually hand grind And percolate. Then I pour into a preheated Stanley thermos So it doesn't overcook lol, Thanks for the tips.
now I need to go make a cup of coffee
How interesting, I will have to try that coffee filter idea and the cowboy coffee. I am bad about swallowing the last sip of coffee and have coughed on coffee grounds in my cup more than once.
My husband loves cowboy coffee, I never liked it because of the grounds. Thanks to you two I can now do some fine tuning to my cowboy coffee and see if I like it and if my husband notices the new cowboy coffee.
Give it a try and you may like it!
