Like it or not this is happening. That is what I heard when "NEW COKE" came out.
It’s not about the tech, car guys love tech. I think this vehicle is a great idea. I think ruining the iconic Mustang name by sticking in on an SUV is moronic. Ford spent the last 50 years building the Mustang brand. Even GM which is chock full of bad ideas won’t be sticking the Corvette name on the new Trailblazer or Stingray name on an SUV. And Dodge won’t be sticking the Challenger or Hellcat name on a minivan. Come on Ford Marketing! Why not call this great new vehicle the Lightning? Or anything else?
They will aim to disappoint like they always do.
I am definitely getting one of those Mach-Es, if you having a family and you're looking for something sporty, this is the car for you.

@MotorcycleMan Nah man, I've loved them for as long as I can remember. Now if Ford was replacing the Mustang with this SUV, then I'd be very upset. However the Mach-E is just a new vehicle that's inspired by the Mustang, and I'm honestly fine with that.

So, it's rumored to be RWD standard and AWD optional, as for platforms, could Ford be using a shortened version of the new-gen Ford Explorer / Lincoln Aviator (modular CD6) platform, honestly, I hope so, was guessing the next-gen Ford Edge / Lincoln Nautilus would be based on a shortened version of the new-gen Ford Explorer / Lincoln Aviator (modular CD6) platform, anyway, it looks like a midsize coupes styled SUV, kind of looks like a larger version of the Ford Puma CUV, but with Mustang styled front/rear fascia, EV range, price, size, and performance are the question, along with its tech

@@richardbutton1179 They are taking engine parts from a Ford Mustang. That's why some people are calling it a Mustang. It even has a Mustang logo if you look at it. It's just being called a Mach E as well, because of the vehicle being a electric suv.

I'm conflicted. I love the Mustang and have always wanted to own one, but I also think EV's are going to take off pretty hard in the hot-rod world. Just do a search on electric swaps and the shit people are doing now is nuts, I can't imagine what it will be 5 or 20 years from now, once the technology becomes even more refined. Only time will tell really, but I think Ford is taking a pretty cool gamble that could pay off for them in the long-run. This could very well the EV CUV for those who may not necessarily want to drop $90k+ on an Audi or a Jag, but also don't want to deal with the frat club that is Tesla. 2020's going to be an interesting year for automotive.

Where exactly do you think you are going with a 99Ampere Hour battery? That's about 135bhp for 1 hour or 270 for 30 minutes and a flat battery after one track session. The car isn't the problem, the technology is and the many claims for endurance and performance don't add up.
FORD should do this but should call it something else for Pete's sake!

Ok,we have a base Mustang, an Ecobust V6,a GT V8,but there's a huge gap from the GT to the SHELBY, a Mach1 would be the best gap fit...Make a Mach1 with the shaker scoop that fits between the GT & The Shelby...The Ford Mustang is a FRICKING ICON...DO NOT DIS THAT...

I have no issues with a Mustang inspired SUV, I do however have a problem with Ford killing off their sedans, I happen to love my 400hp MKZ and wanted to replace my '17 with a 2020 model which won't happen so I have to buy a 2019 which hasn't changed much or go the Continental which costs more. The Aviator is interesting at 494hp but I don't need a frackin SUV....

300 miles is stupid low. My 19’ ecoboost premium does 300 filled up. My camry does above 350, close to 400 filled up.
But you can't wake up to full tank every morning with your morning. Going to the gas stations is an extra chore and so 19th century.

@No Thanks one night forgetting can be forgiven. It has a 300 mile range dude if you forget it one night it means you will still have 200 to 250 miles range which is more than half a tank of gas. Nobody is going to forget it every night. People have smart phones and spouses for making you not forget things. By the way two full nights charging per week is suffice for a typical weeks commute in the US.
Power blackouts, that is a valid argument. But you will not be able to pump the fuel in your gasoline/diesel car either. Gas pumps run on electricity. But hey with EV you have the added advantage that in case of a black out like Cali you can charge your car fully before the blackout and then run your house with your car's battery for the duration of the blackout. Most blackouts are scheduled anyways. A 300 mile (80-90 KWh) car should power your house for a week. And people in California have done this actually during the recent wildfires.
@No Thanks fine man. For people that lazy that can't plug their devices to the socket there are wireless charging options (mostly after market). Just pak your car in the garrage and it will charge itself. If you can power your house with stored gas. Awesome, problem solved you can charge your electric from that gas too. And the fact of the matter is the same amount of gas will give you more miles (about 80 pc more) in an EV than if you use it in a gas car directly.

I am not just talking I have lived with an EV, that too in the frigid Midwest. Works peferctly fine. One you live with one these arguments just seem childish.

Yes I agree small generators with all the energy conversations are less efficient than a big centralized power generation but they are still more efficient than an ICE engine. That is why I said 80% not 300% (An ev is roughly 3 times as efficient as a normal gas car).
To your point of getting stuck in a city traffic EVs are ideal for that too. Unlike a gas car an EV saves energy when it stops it does not have an engine ruining when the motor has stopped and stop and go traffic is good for regenerative braking so it puts more energy back in the battery than on a fast moving highway/motorway.
I understand why you have these reservations becuase you have not driven an EV. I had the same thought before owing one. The funny thing is I had a plug in hybrid whee it runs for about 40 miles on EV charge then if you drive more than that it runs on gasoline. After suing it for about two years I realized the gas tank was just a waste. I will fill it and never used it untill we go to visit friends in another state. Sometime the engine would not run for 6 to 7 months and the gas would become stale. That is why I had to just go full EV. So for people who think they need a back up of gas engine there are options of plug in hybrids that run on both gas and electricity. But my experience was the extra who he and components just add cost and complexity.

I am looking so much forward to the reveal! Finally there will be at least something electric to have good sounds. I thought gas powered engines will always be better because of the bland silence from electric vehicles, but I was completely wrong. It's great to see my favorite car in a SUV form for the first time, and that they are keeping the sports alive. My profile picture is even a all electric Ford Mustang!

Great design. There are many who want a Mustang, but needs seating to handle at least four adults. With a 300 mile range, and apparently a solid performance option. The EV is the future of the auto industry and the Mach E opens a completely new market for Ford.
Regards Tesla surpassing the F-150. They will need to up production to a level they can't obtain building their cars. The other issue is pricing. Maybe a few years from now Tesla may put a dent into Ford's F series sales, but remember. Ford will also have a EV F-150.

If it does that like Tesla it means it will be a lot of improvement on gasoline/petrol cars. A gas/petrol car is twice as likely to catch a fire than a Tesla.

I am so sick of SUV's. Not everyone wants to drive a big oversize box. Some of us like a smaller sporty car that sits low to the ground. I have been in love with the Mustang since 1964, but the day they turn it into a 4 door SUV is the day I stop buying Mustang from Ford. As for electric, it is the way of the future. If they can give a real, two-door Mustang Tesla-like performance, let's go!
