  • Tucsonan Brett Karrle was born with a developmental disability that may have limited his work choices and made it unsafe for him to drive, but it didn't stop his dedication to work and his passion for sports. In 2010, while riding his bike home from his job, Karrle was struck from behind by a drunk driver. Karrle's life changed forever. His competitive spirit and positive attitude has kept him active in the TGIF Bowling League, a competitive bowling league for individuals with disabilities. The program is one of many the City of Tucson offers in its commitment to ensure individuals with disabilities can participate in Tucson Parks and Recreation programs.

Brett is an inspiration and an example of being resilient through adversity. We are so glad that he can continue to be part of the Tucson Parks and Recreation Therapeutic Recreation programs and engage in an activity that brings him joy and a sense of belonging.

Liddie is amazing her dedication to adults with disabilities is only surpassed by her kindness as passion for this work and the people. She is an inspiration to many of us that have special needs adults and is the only reason that my son is on Pima counties team. She gives so much of her own life so that these special adults can have one of their own.

Thank you Cindy for the kind words. Your son, Brett and all the other participants are the reason for my passion. I can't imagine having any other career. They all inspire me!
