    What an impressive pile of possibilities, Debs! I've always been fascinated by the story of Julian of Norwich. I love that you have such personal historical connections to Nottingham and King John. Best of luck with this pile of possibilities!

      @@RaynorReadsStuff me too Debs, this winter seems eternal, and an age since last autumn when I sat in the garden reading, watching the birds and butterflies. I'm sick of hunching against the cold, dressed in too many clothes. At least the reading us going well.

    I have Richard and John. Alfred the great by Justin pollard. I wish there was more known about Alfred the great.
    After watching the last kingdom I wanted to know more about him. I have a biography in Henry v I also became interested in him after watching a movie. Harold the king by Helen hollick. Part of the book queen consort englands mid evil queens I missed the first quarter. I am related to king John through 2 branches. I am fascinated by his mother and learning everything about her. I am English, Welch, Scottish and Irish 70% and I love the history. I am just getting into Viking history since I did my genealogy and have Swedish and Norway in my dna. I love learning history. Some great books. Always look forward to seeing your books

    Awesome pile of possibilities, Debs! Very much looking forward reading Femina in April, will be interested to see what you think of it too. Looks fascinating. The Scourging Angel looks cracking - I've been looking for a book on the Black Death so I think that one has to go on my own pile of possibilities! Am tempted to read something on King John and the Magna Carta myself - I've lost track of the amount of times I've been to Lincoln to look at the copy they hold there (was a favourite day trip of mine when I was a youngster, Lincoln castle and cathedral are two of my favourite historical buildings).
    Plenty to keep you occupied for Q2! Happy reading ☺

    I hope you get around to reading the Book of Margery Kempe. She is such a vivid character. Imagine the Wife of Bath if she wanted to be "holy." I believe at one point she did get a chance to talk about religious matters with Julian of Norwich. Otherwise, Margery kept herself busy by going on various pilgrimages and acting out. She would cry out whenever she thought of Christ's Passion and the louder, the better. (She was not a favorite with her fellow pilgrims.) It's amazing to "hear" this very human voice speaking to you from the past. She dictated her "book," as she was not literate and could not write.
    If you don't mind my asking, which baron were you related to? I'm a genealogy nerd, so I'm fascinated to hear such details. When you find an ancestor in the "historic record," it really helps to make history come alive.

    • @RaynorReadsStuff
      @RaynorReadsStuff  Před 3 měsíci

      I’m looking forward to those two. I’m very into trying to find the female voices from the past. My ancestor was William de Mowbray. Mowbray is my maiden name and my dad once ran into someone of the same name who sent him a document pretentiously called The Mowbray Chronicles which charts the history of the family. Fascinating stuff 😊
