In regard to the massive amount of dialogue text. Just keep in mind that XIV is less than 6 months away from becoming 6 JRPGs in a trench coat. The amount of voice acting increases in later expansions though
i'm now 50% of the way through the MSQ in ARR, and i'm hoping voice acting just appears soon, reading everything out loud on stream is exhausting😮💨

@@moopliss VO is awful in ARR. The Recast for Heavensward and onward makes the cutscenes so much better

I didn't see it in the video, apologies if chat already told you - regarding emote spam/log. You can get reported for chat spam since emotes create a chat message each time you use it, but there is a way to turn off that message (or turn it back on). You can /emotelog or if you open up the emote menu, there is "Display log message" at the bottom right. So typical etiquette is to turn off if you are gonna be spamming (lots of people spam away, there are loads of very spammable emotes that are just fun to spam around, like ranger battles, painting, the infamous Lala WAH...).
There's also /emote motion, which does the motion and sound of the emote without leaving a chat

PreachGaming asked Yoshi-P directly about Chat Bubbles during meet and greet. Confirmed its coming and its still in middle of how they want to implement. While unofficially chat bubbles work fine on PC they need to have same feaatures for playstation and xbox. Maybe in least 3 months now that we know next expansion release date
hope they add it "officially" in the next expansion. that would be GREAT💬

I remember my first day. It was on the Kentaro Miura memorial day so everyone was lining the street as Dark Knight. I also remember seeing a mentor and thinking I just met a legend.
To elaborate on the emote spam thing; people don't like it because by default your emote is posted in chat. There is an option to disable posting emotes in chat and then it's fine.
"Chat Bubbles" are something i think Yoshi-P has mentioned they 'may' add into the game at some point.. but not sure if that is official yet or not.. just something i remember him mentioning at a convention Q&A one day?

So cool that you ran into a parade on your first day! I remember seeing an orchestra playing in town when I started playing. It's really nice to play an MMO that actually feels like an MMO because you see people doing activities like this in the game. Some MMOs just feel like a giant single player game.
i actually saw a player orchestra too, pretty sure it was one guy on multiple accounts but it was still neat to see🎶

Don't be discouraged by BLM. It's difficult to optimize in only the game's highest difficulty content. For anything else, you'll be fine. The difficulty comes in the fact that the class is a giant turrent. Stand still and cast spells. The problem is fights at high levels require tons of movement so you are required to find spots where you can just stand "still" and cast. That's it. . . that's the difficulty. Despite the simplicity of the game play (stand still, cast spells) it's honestly an amazingly fun class to play.

For how much of a turret Black Mage is known for, they get the most free movement abilities in the game. They can teleport to a teammate every ten seconds, teleport to their leylines (a speed buff circle) every 3 seconds, and get two charges of triplecast, making the next three spells instant cast. The difficulty arises in the fact that the latter ability can help you fit more fire 4's into your rotation, so you must balance the extra damage and the risk of accidentally letting your elemental buff fall off because you were having too much fun with casting big damage and then realizing you need to jog circles around the arena for 20 seconds to stay alive.

Tbf the early story is super slow though, I think skimming it until things get more interesting is fine

I started out as a sprout in December, I chose Black Mage as my first class too and now I’m in Endwalker and I’m level 90, it’s possible, it’s just a bit of occasional suffering but nothing you can’t eventually do
i'm assuming "bit of occasional suffering" is referring to the MSQ in ARR? also, great job choice🧙♂

Was wondering when you'd get to this game, been following/watching since you gave wow a shot, getting a fresh perspective on two games I put years into, WoW and FFXIV, is always enjoyable. Will definitely be watching these as they come out.

It might be a controversial opinion, but don't feel too bad about skipping some dialogue here and there. I am guilty of skipping dialogue as well, significantly more in the base game than in any other expansion. However I would recommend watching all MSQ cutscenes and to always have an idea of what is going on, and why it's going on. I believe at some point the story will grab you, especially in the expansions, and you will naturally be drawn in to the narrative and all the small little tidbits such as quest NPC dialogue.

appreciate this. i make sure to try and read almost everything MSQ related. any side quests, i'll try and read a majority of it, but yes... sometimes i do skip a couple dialogue boxes🤷
