Hello, The culprit in both "oil" on the aperture and the tight focusing is usually the helical grease. If the lens is stored in very hot place like a car in summer or in the boot the heat will cause the grease on the helical focusing or zoom gear to liquefy and it will migrate to the aperture. It's always best to store a lens horizontal rather than vertical. The opposite is true when due to age the grease dries up and causes the lens to bind. Dust is usually on the front or rear elements, most often the front and rear elements come out rather easily and the dust can be blown out. You did not mention fungus which is a big problem on older lenses. It will look like spider webs on the lens and nearly impossible to clean because the fungus etches into the lens coatings. It is also not a good idea to store lenses and cameras in the manufacturers ever ready cases. These things harbor moisture and can enhance the chance of fungus. If you use these cases and there is some room a small silica gel packet will help. All this my opinion of course. Good luck Tom, USA
A good help video and well presented. I have purchased items from you in the past and done what they they should do. Thanks!
Lighting is getting better and better with each video. :)
Hope it is intentional that you have a picture of Clint Eastwood in the background. Well played.
;) Thank you for noticing it.
Great videos! But I really like your ski cap!
I find it best to buy used lenses from Japanese sellers via eBay. The Japanese are usually meticulous in caring for their gear as well as honestly describing the condition. I have also had good luck buying used from B&H, Adorama, and Keh.
I agree with you. I have not encountered any issues so far with the cameras and lenses I bought from Japan through ebay.
Thankyou very interesting and fun
Very informative and accurate. My wife and I love Grays of Westminster so much we visited during our Honeymoon in London back in 2018. We will be back!
I know im asking randomly but does someone know a tool to log back into an instagram account??

Informative 🤝
Hello . An interesting and really useful video clip. I use your tips today in testing some nikkor manual lenses . It is also very interesting how you explain. You are very beautiful and attractive. Good luck.
Interesting and informative. It's very difficult to check these things beforehand when you buy something on e bay.
Absolutely! But at least you know what questions to ask the seller, and it's a great idea to check the listings for these things too just so you can see that the seller knows what they're talking about! :)
@@graysofwestminster Lesson I've learned about buying on e bay: if the price seems too good to be true-BEWARE.
I’m mostly using manual focus lenses this days. So far have ZF.2 1.4/50 and 2/100 lenses from Zeiss and was looking what to get next.
One option is a 180mm 2.8 ED AI-S, which I’m wondering if should go with the 180mm 2.8 AF-D version instead. Supposedly it’s optically better, though not all agree, and it is supposed to be good for manual focus?
Other lenses that was looking are the Zeiss ZF.2 2.8/15, then the ZF.2 2/25 or the Nikkor 28mm 2.0, the 300mm 2.8 ED IF AI-S and the 500mm 4.0 AI-P. Any recommendations there?
My cameras are the Nikon Df and D800, and was thinking if it’s worth adapting F lenses to a Sony A7R II.
Should I glue Dandelion CPU’s to AI-S lenses?
Can you clarify something please which I haven't understood yet from what I read around rhe web. What's the name of nikkor lenses mount from 1977 onwards (AI and AIS onwards)? For example canon had FD, EF and now RF.
Hi Alveolo, The 1977 lenses were AI, which were then adjusted slightly ca. 1981 to become AIS. We did a video on the difference between these a little while back: czcams.com/video/yYFbIzI7m3E/video.html
nice accent, nice doubled reference to Clint Eastwood and sensible content presentation (shame for both the micro and what might have been a 4/20?
servicing the lens is not the problem finding the tools to do the job is.
Hi,
Is there anyway to clean fungus or mould from the inside of the glass elements, or should affected lenses always be completely avoided?
Thanks.
Hi Leon, if the fungus isn't too severe it can be cleaned but if it's been there for a while or is starting to look 'silver' then it will have eaten into the glass elements unfortunately, which it does do eventually. Best to avoid contaminating the rest of your kit if possible!

Hiya,
Many thanks for your prompt & informative reply, very helpful indeed, I'll definitely avoid even a whiff of fungus then, I'd hate to infect my beloved Z6!
So to confirm it is ok to use Pre- AI, AI, AIS, AFD etc lenses perfectly safely on a Z6 with the FTZ adapter?
Many thanks.
