    In such a short space of time you two came away with a ton of stunning images . Becky is the Macro Master , So good to see you using my fav 55 micro ais , and treating us to a macro masterclass . Plus other ais , some of the best glass . Such a nasty set of windows and Kon turned them into works of art . I suspect it`s hard to go wrong in Kew , but you still need to know how to see the pictures . You two saw so many fabulous scenes . Such a joy to watch you two at work . We are blessed . Thank you for this one .

    My 28mm f/2.8 AIS is the default lens for almost everything suitable for manual focus.

    Good to see the old lenses at work and it looked like you were enjoying the experience. I miss the slower pace and engagement that the old Nikkors brought to taking pictures 👍

    The pictures from the outside looking at plants against the windows did look pretty nice. For the hanging artwork, if you go back, try intentional camera movement for abstract art.

    Becky, Kon, keep an eye out for when the Bluebells flower at Kew, the woods are amazing then. Prime time varies as you know due to the micro climates around London.

    I like using manual focus lenses. I haven't tried them with the Z series yet but I think that manual focus lenses will be more fun and easier to use due to focus peaking. The ability to quickly zoom with a touch of a button on the Z series will also make manual focusing easier. The focus ring of the Nikon AI-S and Voigtlander lenses that I have are so smooth and fun to use. I noticed that the focus ring of the newer Nikon lenses cannot compare with the older lenses in terms of tactile quality. However, the latest Voigtlander lenses were designed to look and feel like Nikon's AI-S lenses. I am so glad to own them.

    I really enjoyed this. Your video made me realize that there is nothing wrong with hanging on to the few F/mount lenses I have. They work just fine on the Z cameras with the adapter.

    What fun. The old film lenses certainly find a new life on Z series cameras. Best part of the video for me was actually seeing a bit of a crowd out and about enjoying the gardens. Keep up the great content.

    good "KON" pun at 7:49 aka "...the Koncatinea windows", meaning concetina ( the strip windows which open like bifold doors), even if Kon himself didn't get the pun, I did, and was a nice one!!

    Hello Both, I think you are so right about focus peeking, its one of though thing like central door locking on your car. Never need it but once you have it you never what to loss it. Sorry I am not around next Friday so I will miss your livestream Konstantin I hope it all goes well, as I am sure it will. Keep well, keep safe and do find time for fun.

      In addition, the Z cameras show the AF square going from red to green when in focus. That’s way easier to use than taking my eye off the subject to search for the little green dot and arrows focus indicators at the bottom of my DSLR viewfinder. It’s probably not something Nikon can implement on DSLRs as the viewfinder screen markings seem to be LEDs that can only display one colour.

    thanks Kon, nice to see at least one of you use a 105 mm lens as you mainly talk about the 60mm macro lenses, so nice to see this one, another option would have been the 105/135 DC lenses, using the defocus control, esp. on a shot of the inside of the glasshous, and the flowers, would have blured the background nicely.

    So lucky you weren’t using film with that 105, I did a wedding reception once with a 28mm with a stuck aperture on film, not pretty! 😖 Luckily I shot enough on my other camera to cover and it wasn’t the actual wedding.

    I find the 28 2.8 ais, the 55 2.8 micro and the 200 4 all make for respectable adapted choices on my Z5. Even with the adapter they as as compact or more so then some of their modern counterparts. Plus they fit nicely on my Nikkormats or F100 when I shoot B&W film. Try that with a Z mount lens!

    • @JB-ou6fl
      @JB-ou6fl Před 2 lety

      I also have the 28mm F/2.8 ais and I agree that it is very light and small. The manual focus ring is a joy to use and the lens has no distortion. I also have the 200mm F/4 ais and it is surprisingly very small and light.

    What a beautiful place! I love when you go on location! I am curious though you said when you took the lens off and put a new lens on and it fogged up and the moisture was inside the camera as well as the outer part of the lens cannot damage your sensor having moisture inside? I live in Southern California and we don’t have a lot of problem with moisture that was a scary thought I hope you comment on this.

    Thanks for this. Something I'd like to see is how the AF-D series lenses perform on the the Zeds as manual focus.

    • @hyau512
      @hyau512 Před 2 lety

      Hello, in terms of AF-D lenses, I only have the 35mm F2 and I find manual focussing on it pretty painless. Being motor-less, the focus action is less sticky than my AFS-G lens. And focus peaking, live-zoom and the AF box giving you focus confirmation are all very useful.

  • @frabo1000
    @frabo1000 Před 2 lety

    Love this! Since switching to the Z system I have been having lots of fun with vintage lenses. Between the focus peeking and in body image stabilization it is like cheating. 😊 I currently have the 50mm f/1.4 non-ai, the 105mm f/2.5 non- ai, and the 135mm f/3.5 non-ai. After watching your video there may be a 200mm in my future... maybe a wide angle too... lol

    How did you stop your camera and lens from suffering from condensation as you enter and left each of the humid environments?

      @@thomastuorto9929 Thanks, I am very conscious of this type of issue when I have been out in the very cold and then come indoors.. I have seen so many photographers end up with issues with marks inside the lens and bodies. I have a Z6 and 24-70mm & 70-200mm both F2.8 S, just dont want to cause myself problems. Thanks for your advice, will be going to KEW in July..

    NO, Kon, don't tilt the whole camera up, use a T/S lens (24/45 mm) this shot has a lot of visible vertical lines (the kite strings!) which can and will show up barrel distortion, and converting verticals, so best to eliminate them in-camera, as to not show this boldly, would dictate framing a section of this composition with the intention of cropping & perspective controlling later in Photoshop, multi-focus stacking in Helicon focus, or the like manipulations to correct things.
