- Instead of paying about $200.00 from the dealership for a new key, simply go on Amazon and search your vehicle and program the key yourself (you need two working keys to be able to do this). My key cost $22, so it may be worth your while to get a third key now while the other two work to avoid having to pay someone to program the key for you. Thanks for watching.

There's a mistake in this video at 0:33. When inserting the first already programmed key he says _'Do not turn it to ON'._
This is incorrect, you must turn it to ON or it won't do anything. He meant _'Do not turn it to START!'_
And yes, you must have *TWO* already-programmed working keys (ones that will start the car, doesn't matter if the door lock/unlock buttons are broken) to add another.
It's a security issue implemented by Chrysler. It's so the parking valet can't make one and later steal your car!

The exact same thing happened to my key! My car won't start because it came apart so bad if i order the shell on Amazon can i just switch out the chip inside and it will still work?

What if you have only one key?
If you only have one key, you are SOL. You'll need to go to the dealer, or to a licensed locksmith who will get a code and pin from the dealer; thus you are paying the dealer one way or another. Another alternative is to buy a Simple Key programming tool for $110 which I"ve seen advertised on another youtube video.

Do your keys still work? I called a dealership and they said that 99%of them fail
So, I have found replacements on Amazon, but their pin number does not match what is on my key. They look the exact same though. Will those work? I assume the number on the inside of the battery door is the pin number?
I don't think so, the only pin number the locksmith told me about was the pin number needed to program a new key with the fancy set up he was using... I had no key at all at the time, believed it was stolen... now my new key is lost (am investing in a t mobile tracker fob for my keychain) and I have the original key. It will not open the doors etc however. It will start the car, (which is currently 'laid up' with a hole in the freeze plug which Dodge was kind enough to supply in a rustable alloy steel plug...) anyway I will try this with my one working key... and hope for the best. If it works I will come back and update this.
I have two working keys. Dodge Caravan' 2009. But I'm unable to get program mode like you show. Last year I fulfilled recal R03: dealer replaced WIN module and gave me two new FOBIKs, may be with new WIN module this feature was gone?

is it as easy as buying a two pack on amazon and program both of them that way as they are both new non programmed keys. what I mean is, will you need a key that was previously programmed that works or can you program the two new keys that arent programmed but operate just fine.
Cody Robinson for this, you will need two working keys. You can buy new keys but you will have to pay someone to program them for you. Hope this helps
yeah that's what I figured. I got lucky. I found the old ones right at the very bottom of my trash bag that needed to be taken out. just that gut feeling saved me some money after I dug through trash for it lol. thank you for the video and response though.

By "working" key, do you mean that they both turn the car on? Or that they both make all systems beep?
The user manual uses the word VALID. In other words, even if the buttons don't work, as long as the internal electronics is properly programmed to your vehicle, that is all you need. But you need TWO valid keys.
again i have to ask, why two keys to make a new key??? how does the car know that the second insertion is not the same key? why need two keys to make a spare key when you ALREADY HAVE A SPARE KEY??? Do you KNOW or are you just teaching the way you were taught?

j mac. It was a place called discount keyless. I just checked and the ones I bought are out of stock, they have different ones now so I’m not sure how good they are. The keys I bought in 2015 are still working great. Hope this helps.

No it won't. You must have two already programmed, working keys (that will start the car) to program a third one (or more).
It's a security measure Chrysler implemented to verify that you're actually the owner (i.e. the only one in possession of both keys) before you can program a new one.
Else the parking valet could make one and later steal your car!

scooter12368 Since I was replacing a broken key fob I just switched the old key that was already cut with the new blank one. I am sure any of those places would do it for cheap though.
thanks for the info. i never had need to open the fob. I guess the inside of fob has chip and battery only to be switched. was it difficult removing old chip and installing in new fob?
interesting video... but. I'm kinda liking to play "Devil's Advocate," because I saw some issues of a little concern to me. You demonstrated putting the key into the ignition... that's fine... but! and it's a biggie. Although we could hear you putting a key into the vehicle ignition and yes, the dashboard lights did in fact come on. Now, here's the areas of concern. You said that you were putting "2 working keys into the ignition," and turning it to the "On Position," but not starting the vehicle. Ok, so far so good... However, although we heard a key being inserted into the ignition each time you said that you were putting a different key into the ignition... in fact, we never did see you actually putting the key into the ignition. This is very important because you said that with the third key, you were going to program it by following the same steps.
Now, I mentioned that we "heard you putting a key into the ignition." That is not in dispute. What IS in dispute is this. We never actually saw you putting different keys into the ignition as you stated you were doing... not at all. Not even once. For all we know, because of where you had placed the camera, we have no idea how many different keys you said you were using, IE, yours and your wife's key, and the supposed new key. For all we know, you were just using the same key for this purpose again and again, without ever using different keys as you were claiming. We don't know that, because even though you "SHOWED" us a key each time for the various steps, we have no way to confirm or deny that it was a different key, or, if you were using the same exact key every time you put it into the ignition. We only have a partial view of the steering wheel and windshield in your video and nothing more... we have no way to ascertain whether or not you are using different keys for this demonstration, nor can we confirm or deny that you in fact, programmed a brand new key for your vehicle. If I were a dealer seeing your demonstration, I would be hesitant. I am no dealer, but I am hesitant to follow the steps that you provided for supposedly programming a new key for the dodge caravan. Nice work on your vocal delivery, and well thought out and well spoken though. I'm just not convinced that you programmed a brand new key for your vehicle, because I never saw you actually do it, mostly due to the view of the partial steering wheel, the dashboard and the windshield.
