- It's been a whopping 8 years since No Man's Sky was released back in 2016 but since then, Hello Games have released a bunch of free major No Mans Sky updates and 2023 was a huge year and no doubt they've got more in the pipeline for 2024!!
So in this review I ponder the question is No Man's Sky worth playing in 2024? Whether you've never played it before or if you've taken a break for a few years this video will tell you everything you need to know about whether or not you should give it a chance this year.
Thanks for watching!

I got NO MAN'S SKY 2 months ago and I'm really glad I did.
I finally got it around Christmas and so far I'm having a of of fun.
You and me Brother i got outward before and wasn't liking the decision to get that before NMS
They made a number 2?
No he got it to😂😂😂
There is no "No Man's Sky 2" 🙄
I know ship hunting is big in nms so maybe not ship creation/design, but paint jobs for ships, even simple pre made paint jobs that allow color changes for sale in game would be great
I'd love paint jobs for them, would be so good!
Currently playing the free weekend for NMS. Your review is pretty spot on. I found that after the first couple of hours that will test your patience as you learn, you got it, and its just fun seeing what comes next
Thanks, didn't know there was a free weekend, downloading it right now to check it out in VR
😎👍
I would like to see more types of enemies in the game, I personally think NMS could do with more PvE or PvP combat content
w00t....I had no idea they are workjing on a new game....looking forward to it for sure!
Other than bug fixes, I'm hoping for some tweaks to space battles. It would be great if our allies actually did something other than get in our way. Simply drawing a bit of fire away would be a vast improvement. I'm also hoping for more options in the color pallets for base parts. On that same note, I would love for them to bring back the legacy parts. There are some things I'd like to do with some of my bases but they just don't look quite right with the current parts and I don't have access to the old parts.
Yeah agreed with the space battles, would make it more interesting for sure! Pain about the base parts as well
@@BunkzGamingalthough it might be difficult, improving pvp could make so many possibilities come true. Imagine massive space battles like that but between players and nations!
Got this game last weekend, just 20h into it but I love it👌
As a person who has played a little here and a little there since 2016, I definitely 1000% agree with this review.
I played the first time for "Next" updated. And I start a new game last week, amazing game, 100% worth it!
While im extremely new and ignorant of the full game i would love to see more combat options to be honest.
I bought this game on sale for the switch and I absolutely enjoy it the depth of exploration and the complexity with the crafting system keeps you engaged
I picked it up christmas day, also have it on pc. The only gripe I have is the terrain manipulator lag.
Hopefully we get the ability to customize our space ships and paint them, and a painting system like Ark Survival has
Also maybe add basic ship maneuvers like barrel roles and reverse loops that could have a cool down/fuel expense to improve dog fights
U can do barrel rolls it's rb1 or lb1 on controller you can get better mods for your ships at spacestations. How long have you been playing 2 hours or so! 🤨
@@TallCottonWood5262 I’m not gonna lie I did just start playing (just got to the anomaly) and yea I know mods are at space stations and that the bumpers will perform a barrel role by holding down the button. Technically you can do reverse loops too. But I am talking about a tight evasive maneuver done via button combo or something. If you are telling me a mod or something already does THAT then by all means I’m a dumbass noob, but everything I have looked up about dogfighting in the game talks about how basic it is and not much beyond hold L2.
If they keep the left/right sector division of the space station then I'd really, really appreciate a short-distance teleporter that connects both station sectors so that it's no longer necessary to cross the hangar area for getting to "the other side"...
Im glad i waited 6 years to buy this. Another fine addition to my collection
Been playing for 5 months solid the only game I'm playing. Despite bugs and constant crashes on Xbox1 still loving it.
I'm not having any crashes on PS5 or PC for NMS. I noticed on my Xbox Series X, a lot of games I play tend to crash. Starfield crashes on the Xbox at least once every time I play it. I wonder if there is something platform specific causing this behavior.
Its of the onder xbox one i got the same you need to buy series s its almost the same as x then youl run it smoothly
Ditch your Sh*tbox X and get a PS5(I've been playing NMS for months, without a crash.)
I've got close to 5800 hours playtime in game now. Thank God it's been free!. I played WoW for almost 15 Years.
I've seen the bad (Release 2016) to the much better now. I've enjoyed this game Immensly. So far have 12 diff Characters classes (plus all the new characters builds from the Expeditions), with Differing Game Modes of play, from permadeath (Still alive, I have my Immortal Title) to Ceative Play and every mode inbetween.
The new released Updates have been fun. Getting the new Pirate Freighter base was quite enjoyable. They still need to rework underwater (Sub/Swimming) along with the clumsy Living Ships (They still feel like driving a unwielding barge around) movements.
The new Space station redesigns for each species in the game, was much needed. Still waiting for manuvering a Space Staion of my own around.
They need to add to the Ship Building.. Hopefully, they will add all classes of ship crafting sometime in the future (Would love to have a mix of Living/Exotic/Regular Parts for crafting single ships) I.E. like having the (Game File Editor) as an in game option.
Dude! Fractal was the best! It brought the game right where we’ve yearned since Beyond in VR. It was great but just fuzzy enough to make you dream of when it was just a bit more clear. Now, it’s really great! What I’ve always wanted. It’ll get better in years to come but it’s just so good now!! Very happy and I can’t play the game flat, I have to play in VR. It’s the number one reason I own 2 headsets 👍
My wishlist:
- more slots for spaceships ( for ex. 16x sentinel, 16x fighters, 16x hauler etc.)
- more than one freighter (one per galaxy?)
- better LOD 0 for older ships like some fighters who have a relatively low polycount, or those blocky haulers
- more variation in missions (nexus, autophage etc.)
- more colours for some multitools (sentinel)
- better AI for my squadron pilots
- freighter to freighter battles
- optimization of multiplayer code (sometimes the movement of ships/players in the nexus is very very laggy)
- the ability to summon every ship that i own on a landing pad, not just the active one
- joystick support
- support of headtracking, similar to let's say MSFS 2020
and...and...and......😁
I want driveable frigates and freighters along with freighter battles. It would be awesome for you and all your friends to land your ships on a frigate, drive the frigate planetside, land, and everyone gets out as well as building on flyable frigates
Don't forget ship customization
@@wisnu7846 Technically already in the game through third party applications
@@randomchannelgaming6600 what third party application?
As a new player that has already dropped a lot of hours in, things I'd like to see:
- Base Update
Base building is awful. I realise you can gitch but you shouldn't need to. Fixing terrain regen and making it so that there are floors and walls that connect to prefabs would be a big start. Ideally make every wall and floor have multiple sizes that connect to the others.
Add item sorting feature. Maybe a auto transfer feature ala Stardew Valley.
Add some more combat/enemies. We have pirates in space, but some new weapons (customisable bench?) and some pirate outposts to take on occasionally would be nice.
if you are a new player, then you have not even started to scratch the surface in regards to the possibilities of base building. once you get into the game further (at least 40 hours) it opens up a whole new level of base building and what is available and achievable.
Counterpoint: for someone who overwhelmingly plays casual, sim, city building, 4X, or relaxing games when not playing NMS, the combat is plenty challenging, particularly ground battles. Even the space dogfights and ship to ship combat, which admittedly were pretty simple for many years, got much trickier and more tactical with all of last year's updates. I totally get that for the vast majority of gamers who are familiar with FPS combat that NMS fights are stale and easy, but as a casual player who hates first person or even third person gunfights, I appreciate not being skill locked out of playing No Man's Sky.
Yeah that's a good point. I do enjoy a challenge when it comes to combat, but if that's not your thing No Man's Sky is ideal 😊
Just got it 50% off 2 days ago. So far i dig it.
Awesome video, I liked and subscribed!
This is an awesome game. I'm another of those that started on Starfield and quickly got sick of that steaming pile, so I searched for space games and found NMS. This has been one of the most fun games I've played in a long time, though I'm kind of done with it for now. The story was great for my play style/attention span and the holiday expeditions brought new life into the game for me. It's just that I'm not a min/max person and base building isn't my thing. By the time I finished the story I had found a great ship and a good weapon, so I felt satisfied and found something else to play. Then when I found out about the expeditions I came right back and had another round of major fun! It was so exciting to start a new one each week and in fact I had multiple alarms set to remind me when the next one started.
For what it's worth, I played via Xbox Game Pass on a Series X. I did have a few crashes and ran into a few other minor issues, but overall it was a better than average experience in that regard. It seems like a lot of games crash a lot on the Xbox platform these days and I'm going to blame some of those on Xbox.
For my wish list, I would like to have more ship slots with the ability to select from any of them at any location. Like, if I collect 3 or 4 ships I don't want, I would love it if I could go to the space station and sell all of the ones I don't want in one go. More importantly (best for last and all of that) I would LOVE to see a monthly expedition that takes at least twice as long to complete as those 4 holiday expeditions we just completed. To me the it is the scenario that matters over the expedition rewards, but both are important. I would love to be able to revisit the game once a month for a week or so of new and challenging fun.
Thanks for the video! 👍
Thanks for the support! And yeah agreed with your point on playing NMS for a few hours then coming back to it when new expeditions or updates come out, I kind of do the same myself these days. And some good suggestions for improvements as well 😁
In addition to all the innovations and fixes that are to come, I would like to see an overhaul of the construction editor.
Handling the editor during construction is a disaster.
And whoever came up with the idea of changing the appearance of identical elements just by stacking them should...
Well then, we'll see.
I agree. As a new player, it's a nightmare. I spent hours last night just trying to align 2 buildings with a corridor in between. It doesn't need to be so hard.
Base building needs to end, they need to make use of 18 quintillion planets.
@@Nero_1069 disagree. Base building is one of the best aspects of the game, especially when you can easily go and visit other player's awesome bases
Got it for switch, I’m loving the creative mode
Since MS has it on sale half price I decided to splurge and buy the game. 8 hrs in and was hit with the Save for Hell error...hope it's not a trend.
I bought it because I recently got the psvr 2 and heard it was a great game. At first I hated the game because of how impatient I am but lemme tell you, it paid off to be patient. If you are on the fence about it, get it when it goes on sale. You won’t regret it.
Got this game over 2 years ago back wuen space stations had the original look i dropped the game and recently picked it up again and my god has it changed so much more fun
i haven't regretted buying the game for my switch before Christmas 2023. i enjoy the exploration. took me a while to figure out space combat. still learning how the game works, but i am genuinely having fun. had this original stupid goal of trying to explore every planet. might actually do that because that means i'll build a base on every planet i like, potentially.
Fun fact, if you were to visit every planet in No Man's Sky it would take you nearly 585 billion years 😂
@@BunkzGaming well, every planet as i see them. still in Euclid
I bought no man sky on PS5 before new year 2024 on 50% PS5 sale and i love it and it is way better than i was expeting and i did not stop playing it
just one thing to point out for my low cost pc gamers our there! i was hesitant to buy the game becauze i have a toaster of a pc, its an integrated AMD R7 360 and the game still runs smooth in medium to low graphics so if youre in doubt about performance just know its really greatly optimized
I’ve got no man on ps5, and no man is playable on psvr2. If you want to feel small this will do it.
I downloaded the 100 GB starfield and played it for about 16 hours before I got bored out of my mind and tired of loading screens. And then I redownloaded No Man's Sky after not playing for 2 years. Best decision ever, I've already put in another 50 hours on to no man's sky and I'm still having a blast. Starfield did a great job of reminding me how much better No Man's Sky is
short answer, ABSOLUTELY YES!!!! playing this game on PSVR2 is a massive GAME CHANGER. it is the best gaming experience I have ever had in my life. it really shows that the future of gaming really is Virtual Reality. If you are not playing No Mans Sky on VR, you are 100% doing it WRONG.
I hope the back rooms in space stations get an overhaul with better loot since it takes V2/3 Atlantis pass to get into them. That was one real disappointment to me... they could definitely use better loot. Outside of space stations, it would be nice if they had pirates on ground to fight in pirate systems instead of just being attacked in ships. I wouldn't necessarily want them all over the place but I know a lot of people would like expanded ground battle. I have over 2400 hours in the game already and, even just as it is now, can see a few more thousand hours as I create my own challenges and enjoy base building as well as so many other aspects of the game. It would be nice if they would give an option to choose to start with a ship or an exocraft to fix instead, then have to find a crashed ship to get off the starter planet.
Yeah I agree with a few of those. The exocraft starter would be cool! Or even nothing at all if you want a challenge
CUSTOMIZABLE SHIP COLOURS PLEEEAAAASE
They need to spend time on the merchant stuff and make money harder to get just like real life becouse we got so much systems and galaxys to see
I got Starfield thinking it was going to be No Man's Sky. Now I'm all in on NMS, and haven't touched Starfield in weeks. Maybe Starfield will do like NMS has and make dramatic improvements in the coming years.
Yeah I was really hoping for more with Starfield, early days in the grand scheme of things it could be updated a lot!
where does this febuary 24 update day come from? Is this a guess, or has there been an announcement?
An educated guess, they usually release one on February every year and it's been 6 months since the last update which is long in no mans sky terms
I bought no man's Sky during steam winter sale. I played for 6 hours and I don't even know if it was worth it 🙂
I uninstalled Starfield after 211 hours and bought NMS. I'm 192 hours in and thoroughly enjoying myself! I'd rather read dialog text than have to listen to Sam Coe's whining. Plus there's actual space exploration in NMS.
Surprised you got that far into Starfield without putting it down 😂
I got sick of starfield as soon as I realized it's just a bunch of smoke and mirrors
Also just to throw it out there the game will most likely never leave gamepass so I would say it’s a great way to play the game
I was to buy no man sky for a long time, and i love fallout and just out of despise when i wached Todd making starfield instead of fallout new vegas remaster i imidiatly buyed no man sky, i know its not a good reason but is a god damn reason fuck Todd. Also i love this game now, i am currently in galaxy 165(Oyleyzhan) on my to galaxy 250(Nepitzaspru), this jorney is a damn challenge but man the things i have seen, priceless experience, recommend the game if you want to loose yourself in possibility.
I wish they add Empires , n hand yo hand fighting lol
Its possible we may not get more updates for no mans sky given the latest update is called omega.
I have to disagree. If you do nexus missions, you will have a much higher chance of finding other players randomly in space as the nexus missions seem to send people to the same areas. Hell, ive created a new save, and within an hour im even finding systems discovered by others. It definitely has a much more mmo feel than it used to.
Are there aybssel water planets?
When can we customize our ships design n color?
The sooner the better in my opinion, though I doubt it'll ever be a feature
It's like £25 for ps5. I think I'm gonna grab it
me too what do you think of it so far
Any news on the 13 GB update this morning?
Sounds like you've not updated your game in a while. There hasn't been an update/patch since January 3rd
Yes.....now go buy it
Hands down the best game i have ever experienced. Over 350 hours of game time into it and im still finding new stuff as i explore. One of the only games i've played where everything you do you feel in control of, every decision you make seems genuine and far from repetitive, the linear progression of the game adds a "lead your own destiny" aspect to it which in this case makes it feel so completely different from any other in game story i've experienced yet. 11/10 game in my opinion💯 i'd also like to add being this game is as massive and randomly generated as it is there will be some glitches and what not all stuff you'll see in any game so looking beyond that you will see this game is truly a masterpiece.
I just want to load into the anamoly and not freeze on a bright white screen
What platform do you play on? Never experienced that myself
Sometime it also happens with my game. Xbox serie X
@@PsychoCass1990 that's a massive pain, I've not had it on PS5 (so far)
more planet types and better procedural generation would be good
How many planets have you visited? 6 total. Ive been to over 500 systems, been playing over 5 months and im still impressed by the different planet types. Come back and comment when you've played a 100 hours or so. Your comments are based on someone who has played very long. Have u finish the main story yet?
Chill out I think he was just on about water planets and that @@TallCottonWood5262
@@TallCottonWood5262 to be fair I see where they're coming from. I've been playing on and off for 6 years and I've basically seen all the game has to offer. Once you've been playing for even 50 hours with a lot of exploring you very rarely come across a totally brand new planet that isn't even a little similar to others you've seen.
My biggest issue with NMS, after playing it for about 100 hours and finishing the 2 main story lines, is really the lack of depth. I am referring to the repetive feeling when it comes to exploration, but even more to the from my perspective very disappointing story and mmorpg like quests. There is no depth to those aspects. All quests, even the explorations, focus on making use of the game mechanics such as grinding resources, repairing stuff, flying somewhere, but without any really motivational goal.
The game is good for people who just want to relax and like base building and hunting for rare and nice ships, but once you have a lot of those, there is not much you can actually do with them. I prefer story driven games in the end, just personal preference.
@@markus8940 I'm inclined to agree with you on a lot of that, it's one reason why I play for a few hours then move onto something else with a good story for a bit.
Imagine if you could purchase a space station and dock freighters
Is it worth it? Lmao almost insulting to ask that now imo 😂 id elect it game of the year this is about to be a wild year.
Im hoping we get a multiplayer rework make it more integrated. Maybe even like an mmo game mode? I think thatd be amazing to be able to jump between MMO MP and SP based off if i have wifi. I game on my ateam deck often while traveling.
Ship purchases
The game is very good for a space game, but after you get your S class ship and build a decent base, the game becomes extremely boring. The missions don’t give a good enough reward and you can get those items without doing the missions. The story is way too slow to me, because it’s repetitive, every single place you go is “talk to this person”. The best thing in NMS is the exploration, but once you discover enough, you see that most of the planets are not unique, they are just different colors with different vegetation, which makes some planets basically the same, like most freezing planets look the same. The interesting ones tho are planets with mountains, they look much more like a real planet than the average flat ones you find
i mean, it's like Ark, questing is usually not the priority
Anyone tryna show me the ropes i just downloaded it😢

30-second game play loop still just shooting rocks, farming mats, and wandering around?
Nah, I'm good. Until they make combat, actually fun and engaging, this game is always going to be just another walking simulator, shooting rocks, and base building. There are plenty of games that offer that and more.
NMS is the definition of an unfinished game being drip fed lackluster content
Got it on discount for Christmas. Played a couple days then gave up on it. After realizing you can just adjust the settings to get everything for free it ruined the game for me. Never been a fan of God mode games.

TL;DR Turns out it's Xbox's shitty programming department I no longer have any issues after switching to PS5 unless I'm gaming with an Xbox player. Get it together Microshaft!
There are way too many bugs and they continuously keep me from achieving my goals. Tonight I couldn't even complete the living ship mission because not even the ship you are meant to get normally on the mission would change to a living ship! I can't tell you the number of times I reloaded, and this was AFTER going to three other systems through the gates to get the color I wanted which was white and black! I finally just gave up on the game.
Are you on console? I don't think I've ever encountered a bug that wasn't something minor on PC.
Come to find out it's shenanigans caused by Xbox's shitty programming department I switched to PS5 and have had 0 issues unless I'm grouped with Xbox players.@@actualamateur149
