I wanted to make a super juicy, meaty, textured piece of tofu that could be given the name A5 Tofu Wagyu... and I think I nailed it!!
This is a combination of tofu and seitan or wheat meat and WOW does it come out meaty!

So I know this one is a long process. I always enjoy it but I know a lot of people wish things were easier. Maybe some steps could be shortened, or omitted, but I think it all adds to the realism.
What should I try next?
Why don’t you try it with the jack fruit? Since it has the fibers you may be able to accomplish the actual look of the steak. I tried the jack fruit - not the pulp but the fiber part to make pulled chicken and it came out pretty good 😊
I realize it is asking for the moon but a gluten free steak for my friend would be Amazing.
@@daniellebarker7667 For gluten free check out any of the mushroom steaks.. I make a lions mane steak thats wild and the brand Meati is out of this world!!
@@ladylm100 I've done something similar with jackfruit.. but I need to revisit it with this technique!! I'm going to do that!!! Thank you!!
Chashu for vegan ramen would be great.
i was not prepared for how straight to the point this video was. no intro, just "get your tofu and boil it"
Not a vegan but I love the effort you put into this, it's genuinely really cool to watch the process
based Emil enjoyer
Yeah I watch this guy all the time and I’m not vegan, not even vegetarian 😅
Based Weiss fan
@@elith6930 what does based mean?
The main reason I watch this channel is to see how creative this guy is. Many of his foods actually look like real meat, and make me want to experiment with it myself, even though I’m not vegetarian. This looks promising, especially considering I cannot eat beef.
I cook steaks all the time for myself and my family but my older sister has never had the chance to eat one of my steaks because she’s vegan so I’m definitely going to add this to my liked videos and surprise her with this one day
wholesome
youre really kind! i hope you do that for her
you are great, she will love it so much!!
You should consider doing ranking videos where you rank your own creations (maybe based on taste, cost, and effort involved) since you have so many versions of steak, bacon, etc. Love your channel, my friend.
This !!
This guy is a chef and a scientist
Thank you!!!! I still like to leave the chefie things up to the the legit chefs. Its cool to see the dishes people come up with using these experiments!
You have added a Ton of wonderful meat analogs to my repertoire. Your efforts are much appreciated.
@@SauceStache I appreciate the hell out of you. I don’t eat meat, and I don’t even use your recipes, but just learning tips about flavor and consistency from you helps me be a better cook. This is so interesting and I wish I had the time and my own kitchen to do this rn.
@@SauceStache you need a restaurant so we can try your ideas if we don’t feel like cooking them 🥰
The Walter White of vegan meat #Heisenberg
I did something somewhat similar by layering gluten powder between tofu skins and scrunching them up before boiling away vegan chicken broth. It was very meat like. It broke up the caked texture seytan can have.
I'm not a vegan or vegetarian. Have no intention to ever cook any of these recipes. But watching him go to these levels to replicate meat dishes is insane. Kudos 👌
Even if you're not a vegan, this is a lot cheaper than an actual Wagyu 😂
@@Tubemax68 nah mate, I could have put in about 12 hours of overtime to make up the difference
Why not try them. I'm not vegan or vegetarian myself. But I like good food. I have made a lot of his dishes. And they are for the most part good.
@@MrRoden96 That's fair
I love how you’ve voiced over your videos rather than talking in them, it works really well, great job 👏
I just love how much effort you put into making those recipes and they all come out looking really good. You always do a great job!
"Yeah, it's good!"
Pulls out the A1 Sauce lol
i don’t comment often but GYATDAM, no overextended intro and just straight to it? i love it
as a meat eater, i would 100% try this, even just to understand. Nice video btw, liked it
I'm vegan, been vegan for years and I love to cook. I've had so much fun in my kitchen recreating your recipes. I really appreciate the work you are doing, I can't thank you enough, and you really raised the bar here. Hell yeah, brother (in gravelly pro-wrestler voice)
that is it, FUN in the kitchen is very important...who wants to cook always the same things? btw, ty for being vegan!
My mind is blown rn 🤯👏
Also congrats on making it to half a million followers!!!
Ahhh Renee!! Thank you so much!!! I can't believe 500k!!
Honestly, I wish you could come cook for me; all the recipes are more time consuming than I'm likely to do, but they all sure sound delicious!
hahah I would love to cook for everyone!! I always hope that maybe little bits of these longer process recipes can be used and someone gets a halfway version of it quicker haha
I live in the same state as you, and would happily pay 100 dollars + for a 3 course meal from you. Would be awesome to have your reaction at the end of the video be subscribers for certain specials.
Outstanding, your videos are so creative! Keep up the good work
Thank you very much!
That looks great! Does your cast iron pan ever scratch your ceramic cook top? I have the same type of stove and I'm scared to use cast iron but would love to.
I really enjoy all of your videos, there is so much I want to try.
I'm thinking in my experiments I would want to try breaking up the initial tofu block to see if more surface area would capture more flavor.
I also want to try your magnet method to extract iron for this recipe.
Oh man! This one blew my mind! This technique of layering the vwg with the tofu is fascinating!
Do you think if you put the tofu in a food processor you'd get more even marbling?
It looks great either way!
I'm SOLD on this!
Lots of steps. Lots of time BUT not a lot of hands on time! Good work, Mark!
Its time consuming!!! But wildly good!!! Thank you so much!!
“It’s really good” *breaks out the A1* 😂
it's gonna be tricky but i will experiment with this for sure ♥️🥰 love your experiment videos, they are the best, this is just great! is not that long of a process either , i will have so much fun
Is the whole recipe in your book? I can’t seem to find it on your website.
This looks genuinely great!!
just wanted to say ive been watching your videos (as a non-vegan) since around 50k subs. Love your enthusiasm and attitude. And I'm so happy to see you are above 500k subs now! KEEP GOING!
Wow thank you so much!!!!! Thank you for sticking around. Now I feel like if you do make something of mine after this long it better be something really good or it will be epically disappointing hahaha
@@SauceStache @Nicole Vella Your chili recipe tastes great and it’s also easy to make.
Always interesting stuff! Keep it coming!
I haven’t watched one of these videos in a while but this guy is still at it lol. Still fun to watch too
I wish there was a sauce stache restaurant I could go to and sample all your delicious creations
Like some of these methods you are using. I’m definitely into experimenting with tofu and gluten. Nicely done!
Do you have any recipes using frozen tofu. I saw a couple recipes on the web if you freeze the tofu first the texture comes out meaty like.
I love how creative you are!
Definitely gonna have to try this! this is awesome!
Its wild!!! Thank you
Maybe adding the beat root powder to the dry mix at the beginning would help with the color? Intersting idea.
Beetroot powder goes brown when cooked, use food coloring if you want redness
I think it's added at 1:26
Damn Mark! You always impress! Much love from Norway =)
Thank you very much!!
Why doesn't this guy have his own restaurant yet? Or even just a good truck. Everything on his channel just looks amazing and I'm not even vegan. If he needed a Kickstarter for it I'd support him.
Eating off the cutting board like a true chef
Looks so good!! I just wish you also made some gluten free versions 😍
hey Idm these labour/ xtra work for this tofu. I imagine it might taste good on rice.
Great idea, I like that layering method 🙂
Wow this looks INCREDIBLE!!! 😍
You say mad? Like really mad?!! I'm madly in love with this recipe 🤩😌
Tbh I came here to say NOT A STEAK but this is a super great idea
Wow this looks absolutely amazing!!!
Thank you!
LOOOOVE all of your videos!
Love your recipes - simple ingredients and rich in protein.
Idk if Methylcellulose is a simple ingredient. I think the only place I can find it is online.
It may not be a steak, but it honestly probably stands on its own thing. That's really neat.
Mind blowing!
Looks fantastic
Add some grilled mushroom caps and ‘creamed’ spinach! Looks delish and I can’t wait to try it!
This looks amazing!
This looks amazing!!!
Im not vegan nor do I have any plans on being vegan but these videos are still so fun and entertaining, super cool.
Would love to see you test this out on a true blue lover of Wagyu. I see a cross over with Gugafoods in the making!
Brilliant work on this "steak"! Crack me up every time I see someone rant about it...
Just a question, couldn't be possible to infuse the meaty coloration all the way through? I think it would sell the meat aspect more.
You totally could!! It would take an overnight rest in the marinade and I bet that would do it! You could also inject it or use like a meat tenderizer to get the color all the way through
@@SauceStache Great ideas and thanks for the reply! I'm really hitching to try my hand at this. Say, I just had a thought, how about somehow add jackfruit to the recipe to get these chewy meat fibers?
@@Fyr365 let us know how yours turns out!
@@bodyofhope I sure will! Though it's gonna take a while before I can try.
What about sous vide for this??? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Looks really good!
Thank you!!!! It came out awesome!!
I need Mark to come to my house and cook these things for me. 😂😂😂😂
Honestly i love this and it doesn’t even seem that intensive, there’s a lot of down time.
Been experimenting with different tofu styles lately, this looks amazing!
Thank you so much!!!
Also what different styles?? Anything I should know?
I’m not vegetarian nor vegan, but I am super impressed with the effort and if it tastes good to you, I’m sure it’s worth it!
Would be great if we can buy it already done! Looks delicious.
awesome vid!!would love to see a collab with you and gugafoods on this!
Is there anyway possible to do a Gluten Free version?
WOW. You are at another level now !
This one looks Really awesome, Mark!! Thank you for your honest reviews, Monica!!
Thank you so much!!!
The scientist geek in me is practically jumping to make this! Do you happen to have a diy Impossible brand Soy heme recipe? Im curious to see how adding the liquid to the original block before freezing or during basting may contribute to the browning/flavor profile! Eehk, I love this channel as a vegan, an aspiring chef, and a kid who grew up on Bill Nye diys lol 💕
Leghemoglobin is protected by US patent law, so you aren't really able to buy non animal derived food grade hemoglobin in its pure form. Impossible foods is going to have an effective monopoly on leghemoglobin in food for a decent while.
@@garethbaus5471 ehh?? Dang :T makes sense tho 🤔
Hope a suitable bootleg altermative becomes available in the future tho! :^D
At that point you could try to figure a way to derive it how they did the first time
How does this one compare to you vs the one you did with coconut oil and carageenan?
I see both your comments... this one was good, the other was better!
Is there any substitute for gluten, since few people can not eat gluten?
Not in this recipe.. but I would say try some of the mushroom steaks!! Thats your best bet for gluten free!
What a vegan food scientist you are, looks great. Always enjoy watch your videos, thank you!
Man you know what you could make a huge career in like food industry, to make these kind of things on a bigger scale. 👏
“That’s not steak! Do you know what steak is?!?!” ROFLMAO 🤣
Honestly, it’s the prettiest tofu steak I’ve seen. Great job once again!
I definitely don't care enough about faking steak to ever actually attempt to make this, but I think it's really cool that you did and this video was awesome
And while you are making you could have raised a wagyu calf fully, butcher it and make steak out of it in the same time ^^.
I’m not vegan but I find this guys videos rlly cool & interesting
Restaurant! Restaurant! Restaurant!
I would love to try and cook this, but I’m not great at following along with videos, and don’t trust myself to guesstimate measurements. Have bad ADHD and cooking new things can bring out anxiety and stress. I’ve checked your website a few times to see if the recipe was posted there but looks like that hasn’t been updated since March. Is there anywhere online I could find the written recipe for this? Thanks!
This is more then interesting, reinventing Tofu to another level of umami.
You’re crazy, bro. Just love what you do…
Thank YOU!! Thank you!!
Any blue cheese substitutes?
Looks great
Thank you!! I was stoked about it!
Great job!
I agree it looks awesome.
Thank you so much!!!
Looks awesome 👌 I can't have it because of the gluten but I am hoping really really hoping you can do some gluten free recipes! Us celiac fans really want to make some of your recipes 🤭
If you haven't yet, check out the tvp burger recipes. I cook this for my dad who is coeliac and not a vegan. He loves them!
czcams.com/video/rUWR9VRckAk/video.html
You could probably do it with a good gluten free flour from the store
What's your process like when you do these recipes? I'm assuming you try stuff out with cameras off, but it also feels like your still experimenting. Just curious about the 'behind the scenes'
Wet tofu in the press in the freezer doesn't break it?
Her looking for a trash can was the funniest part
I bet it would be really good as a door stop
you're so creative!
Will try for sure 👌
Omg you’re legit a scientist
It looks insane! we cannot wait to try it!! today we are uploading a video were we've created two different vegan sandwiches with two types of vegan meat! maybe it could interest you to know how to make vegan "Lomo con queso" or a "Pattymelt" ;) Big fans of your channel! :)
Also love the description of it as A5 :)
hahaha I knew it would lite some people up!! but its a good vegan steak for sure!
Can you make a lot of those wagfus and freeze for months later meals?
I actually want to taste it. Wow that's so interesting
i love how casual monica is
Have you frozen tofu yet? It's amazing. When you thaw it lots of water comes out.
BIG TIME MEAT EATER HERE, i would definitely try to do this mysleft, but i have never even seen lot of ingredients you use , and i doubt i could even get them where iam from :D
LOVE THIS
Your the best.
Thank you.
I am mad at you for not sharing a piece of that wagyu!!
Besides jokes, i really liked the technique of mixing tofu MC and gluten. I'll totally, try it.
At least for me i am always trying to get a better piece of meat for the BBQs, that really does not dry off on the grill :(
This might be the recipe
