    Mr Dan thank you for this mate. It's my first time using my garden for planting vegetables etc. I tipped all the seeds in one tray and now I've realized thanks to you I need to separate them.

    I thought it meant that they don't suck but I assume it's that they literally don't blow over. But it they did blow over, that would still suck. Ok you mean that they would open up. Those look great Dan and this video doesn't blow!

      Hello! Thank you so much for this video! My son gave me Brussels sproud seeds for mothers day and this is the first time I planted Brussels sprout seeds. I planted them om a tray flat and they grew so fast. I got several seeds planted together so I'll have to be careful getting them apart. I have 3 inch peat pots to transplant them in. They are the type of pots you can plant in the ground. Those would be ok- right? I'm a first timer at this so I really hope I'll be successful!

    Amazing those roots can tale such a pounding, never knew that. I did grow broccoli one year in North Dakota and it did very well but in all my brilliance I didn't give them any protection from the white butterflies so you can imagine the mess I had. You have encouraged me to give sprouts a try here in North Dakota. Happy Holidays!!!

    Good crop Dan, well done! We prefer the smaller varieties. This format of video is ideal for those new to this crop so you see the whole cycle in one compact video. We like them boiled or blanched and then fried with bacon. Still reckon the Vicar of Dibley eating all those sprouts is hilarious. Merry Christmas and keep those videos coming. Regards Keith

    Another great video, on my allotment I saw one of the "old boys" using a sledge hammer to firm the soil then a drill to make the hole - his sprouts were tiny compared (more like when you 1st potted them on) to yours but they ended up fantastic.

    Thank you Dan. I tried growing sprouts for the first time this year, your advice will definitely be followed as mine didn’t stay upright. Despite keeping them covered the caterpillars still found a way to my brassicas, annoyingly, I think the eggs were being laid on the netting and they got through. Still, we have enough for our Christmas dinner. Merry Christmas 🎄

    I didn't know about this, I sowed some direct and they did all tip over. The veg patch is rather soft, fluffy compost, which I assumed was a good thing! I decided to cull a couple because they were all a bit too close together, and the survivor does have a modest number of sprouts on which I will hopefully eat. Only very few seem 'blown'. I will be using this method next year to encourage upright plants!

    I like to mix my soil and water before putting it in the pots. It makes the soil less likely to float away and uncover the seed when watering.

    Thank you for this video! As an experiment I planted one BS plant but never heard of the smack it with a brick method of soil preparation. I have a brick and will try it next year! My plant stayed up because where we live it’s ALWAYS windy so I stake everything, but it didn’t matter since the shoots “blew.” This happened to others here and I was told that it was because it was wicked hot for too long. I was wondering what would happen of this plant survived winter, do you think it might try to produce sprouts this year? I didn’t remove the blown shoots, do you think I should?

    • @homegardens7682
      @homegardens7682  Před rokem

      It will probably go to seed this year so no sprouts! I wouldn't remove blown sprouts unless I wanted to cook them (which they are fine to eat). Making sure they stay watered can help, especially in dry Suimmers.
