- BROOKLYN tells the profoundly moving story of Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother’s home for the shores of New York City. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her past, and she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.

As a foreign student in the U.S. who went though all the trouble to get here, her struggle and internal conflict between the old life and the new one hit too close to me.
Immigration is such a unique experience that if you were an immigrant, people back home won't completely understand you, because you have this "new life". And people in your "new life" won't completely understand you either because you still carry part of your old life with you. Only another immigrant can understand you.
+Han Chen exactly!
for real! this is such a beautiful movie everyone needs to see it
this movie looks like a waste of time I guess only for you people that had an experience of this type of lifestyle could find it interesting. But being born in America and American I find it incredibly boring.... So you won't see me watching this crap lol
"Actually the lead might win the Oscar.."
How would you know if you're not gonna see the movie? :-)
+Jason Mildward I can see all of your taste is in your mouth. Stick with the Bevis and Butthead crowd.
I cry when she cries... her acting is so good in this movie. As a foreigner, I can relate so much to her.
+bomapdich she has that power... when I saw her in the lovely bones I cried every time she did it. xD Her performances are always good.
Where from?
What's her name plz?
@@albert8925 Ellis Lacey
@@emiliobello2429 thanks bro
She played the fiddle in an Irish band but she fell in love with an Italian man.
Recep Guner I love that song.
😂😂😂
Nice twist
its perfect cuz she's in that music video
I love this comment
That lovely scene where she's helping at the Christmas lunch for homeless former blue collar workers and the man begins singing reduced me to tears.
+Timothy Wilkes same. favorite scene of the movie. heartbreaking and melancholy and beautiful.
I’m watching that part of this movie your talking about as I’m writing this
I just saw this movie. It is undoubtedly a great production and has a compelling story line. The photography and the music score just add substance and beauty to this masterpiece. I wish Hollywood would make movies like this one.
:)
so true. watched it 3x (obsessed)
Thank you ever so much. I will watch it. Take care.
***** I will watch it. Thank you ever so much.
That.s true but very few with substance. In my humble opinion, Carol, The Danish Girl, and Brooklyn are movies that give you something that stays with you for a while, for a long while.
I heard that they originally cast Rooney Mara. Not that there's anything wrong with Mara, but when one of the biggest 21-year old stars of the moment is Irish and one of the biggest Irish stars is 21 and Hollywood suddenly has a character who is a 19 year old Irish woman, it seems like a sin of sorts not to cast Saoirse. I'm so glad they did.
+Lauren Conrad I first saw her in The Grand Budapest Hotel. She's a fantastic actress! I can't wait to see this movie as well.
***** I've been a fan of hers for years in films like Atonement and The Lovely Bones. :)
+Lauren Conrad She was good in hanna and how i live now, but unfortunately lovely bones sucked balls
+Chris Kostaras She was excellent in it though! Nearly won the BAFTA!
+Chris Kostaras : I LOVED "HANNA" and "How I Live Now"...so glad that someone else really liked how brilliant she was in these two films! :) She's beyond talented...she's just so authentic and REAL in her roles..to me but her indie flicks seem to really allow her to hone in on that raw and real emotion she has and connection to our humanity. :)
it’s been like 5 years and i still love this movie so much
Same
It's boring asf
Same here
@@buffgarchomp62 go watch a marvel movie then
i want to see the sequel!!!!!! now that is something worth making.
This movie was a WORK OF ART on every level. Flawless storytelling. Intimate, exemplary acting. Finely nuanced direction. And it was charming, wholesome, and morally admirable; three characteristics you seldom see nowadays.
did anyone else see the first 5 seconds and immediately think "titanic"
CoURTNEy rwrwufakuew yes
Hahaha yes!!
Yes, me!
Sameee
Yeah!😂
If you have ever left home and even felt homesick, then you are going to love "Brooklyn". It helps you remember to never forget where you come from and the reason why you are here
Good
what is the reason we are here? Except "a better life" please.
I can't wait to see this! Saoirse Ronan is such a talented actress. I wish she'd get the attention Jennifer Lawrence does.
Callin Henry i know what you mean but at the same i fear the moment she'd become a superstar
Callin Henry I totally agree! I absolutely adore Saoirse.
No. NO NO NO NO. She's perfect where she's at. She's like the underground celebrity who only needs to accept film offers from indie directors or Hollywood directors with great scripts and potential. It's only when actors get well known that they start to get criticised by magazines and media and the public. She's at a great place in her life, and if she wins an Oscar then let's just hope she isn't confronted by an idiotic, money-hungry director.
Callin Henry Saoirse is good...but she ain't no Jennifer Lawrence!
***** Agreed where she is right now is amazing! People would work there butts off to be Saoirse Ronan and to be able to get to work with great directors like Wes Anderson and Joe Wright who have all been Oscar nominated films. Jennifer lawrence just has really good PR people to promote her and she promotes herself quite well.
I can so relate to her, I am a french immigrant in Arizona and everything is just so foreign, nobody understands the culture I come from, all the little things I grew up with, I feel completely isolated despite my loving husband here. Home is home it is the truth. I love this country, but it will never be home.
I know how you feel when I came to Ireland flying there to see my boyfriend ever year, it felt like I was missing my own country in the US but also wanting to get use to my boyfriends country and I did. Once you fly back everytime, it's like you're in a whole different land all over again. Since the pandemic though, I haven't flown there in 3 years and that's the longest I've been away. Immigration laws need to be less strict in Republic of Ireland but I doubt it'll ever change. It's hard to stay longer unless I extend my stay which can be difficult to do. So I had to stay in northern Ireland for a year to be with my boyfriend longer. It's a pretty expensive country, beautiful but expensive! We even went to the filming locations of this movie.
It must be nice for actors to play roles from their own country...being able to speak normally and not with an American accent.
Interestingly, Saorise Ronan has a Dublin accent in real life, and for the film she had to put on a Wexford accent.
Emory Cohen is the only American actor in Brooklyn
I just saw it and I am completely in love with it.
me too...just watched it. what a beautiful movie. didn't want it to end.
hello xx
Nicole Jarel
Me too
Who did she choose 😁
i'm obsessed with saoirse so much recently omg. she's amazing
I always watch the trailer for movies after i've watched it. trailer these days gives out the entire movie. loved this film. 10/10 for me.
true! i used to love watching trailers before, now i just prefer to skip them. too many spoilers
Anyone whose moved away from home will relate to this film. It utterly beautiful, I cried and smiled. It made me remember my feeling of homesickness.
Beautiful singing at the beginning like soooooooo beautiful 😍😍
Briana Mia totally agree! Does anyone know what the song is?
+Julianne Coye sounds like the singer from The Gloaming!
+Tony Nguyen iarla o lionaird from the Gloaming is in the IMDB page for the movie, great ear Tony!
Awesome! Haha thanks Peter. And thanks for confirming!
I like your videos they are my favorite videos and I like your mother is cute girl hairstyle funny girl videos
Saw this film yesterday. Whole theatre was empty and seats were comfy so I totally enjoyed the film by myself. I cried for 9 times and this movie was incredible! I love Irish people and Ireland so much, NYC and Brooklyn too. Also the sad parts affected me strong. And I'm saying this film deserved an Oscar already. I was expecting at least an expanded end but that is okay. 10/10!
My great grandmother went from Tipperary to New York during the early 1900s. She worked as personal maid to JP Morgans mother. She met and fell in love with a man while there. They quickly became engaged and she went home to Tipperary to tell her mother she was getting married and wouldn't be home again. While at home in Ireland her much older (and controlling from the sounds if it) sister arranged for her to marry my great grandfather and she never went back. My grandmother didn't really have a choice and she married him. My great grandfather already had 6 children and was 20ish years her senior. She had one child my grandfather in 1918. I have often thought about that fiance she had in New York. I wonder what happened to him. Unfortunately I never met her because she was dead before i was born in 1988 but she did tell my mother all this when she was a child. When I first read Brooklyn I couldn't believe how similar the stories were. I wonder if there are many other similar stories out there.
🥺🥺🥺🥺
It's a great story, ready to be a plot for another movie.
Do you think your great grandmother was happy in her marriage?
This film deserves all the praise it has received. Truly a wonderful piece of art and a great story.
I’m an immigrant, I migrated to Canada when I was 9. I remember begging my dad to take me back to Mexico, I wanted to live in Mexico and experience all the things Mexican girls experience like having a quincieñera... but never got one. I’m 20 now and I go back to Mexico for vacation once in a while but I have created a life here now, I learned to call Canada my home and I don’t have a life back in Mexico now. I know I’ll marry here and my descendants will be Canadian. This movie was so relatable, It’s just a difference of decades lol
I LOVED this movie. As an inmigrant I felt so connected with all the situations and feelings. Saoirse Ronan did an incredible job, her acting was stellar.
Where from?
ill watch anything with saoirse ronan in it! she's breath taking
Its about time that we will be able to enjoy another clean, very touching love story. Saoirse Ronan is very talented actress
czcams.com/video/O4W20tE-RrU/video.html
How is it that Brooklyn has not won an Oscar? Nevertheless, it was a brilliant masterpiece. This is definitely Saoirse Ronan's best performance to date.
She should have won the oscar
@Winnie Bumpers i saw it, brooklyn is better imo and saorsie also... i also read the novels room and brooklyn so...
It's not oscar worthy at all
I grew up with many of the classic actresses, from Garbo to Seymour, but this has to be the most beautiful and charming woman I've ever seen!
Well, now I know what Saoirse Ronan is up to. Of all the young actresses her and Mia Wasakowska are my favorites.
+neil adlington Saoirse Ronan > Mia Wasakowska
+bluto212 true. but both are good
Mia was great in Alice In Wonderland
This movie looks beautiful...And OMG Emily Bett Rickards is in it ahhhhh!!!!!
Natalia Rodriguez I know! Emily looks gorgeous, as per usual, and I love Saoirse Ronan.
I watched this on a plane ride to my first solo trip and I remember crying on the plane. Saoirse is amazing!
Wow. 2015 was an amazing year for, Domhnall Gleeson. A lot of Oscar nominations in the movies he was in last year -- 'Brooklyn' 'Ex Machina' 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' 'The Revenant' That is pretty damn impressive.
I just stumbled upon this movie while switching channels... Read the synopsis and decided to watch it for a few minutes. I was so captivated by her acting, and the overall feel of the movie that in myself want to go live in the fifties. Started feeling nostalgic for no reason. It also gave a valuable lesson, that as we grow up we have to find a life that's our own, not related to our past, something that we love. A treasure.
Wonderful film, really enjoyed it. Saoirse Ronan was just perfect as the innocent and gentle young Irish girl. All the cast were solid and loved the fashion and the period pieces of that era. Thoroughly good film, tender, sad, lonely, very moving story.
One of the most underrated movies.. E V E R
Saoirse Ronan is an Irish rose, so naturally beautiful. She is refreshing and a joy to watch. So are the rest of the cast. So much talent!
Saw it Christmas Eve. Truly one of the best films I have seen in years. Excellent in every regard: the story arc, the acting, writing, music scoring, location, cinematography, etc. Flawless.
As an Irish girl living abroad I really connected to this film, even though I'm just away for a year. The homesickness is the worst feeling, and then you adapt. But home is home :'(
I don’t know if I’m too emotional of a person but I cried watching this. I saw the movie so many times on Netflix and skipped passed it but never judge a movie by its cover.
Everything in this film felt close to home since I too migrated but from America to Europe 4 years ago. Nobody really "gets" what it is like unless you have gone through it yourself. Goodbyes begin to mean something and reality turn into a rush through time. I too lost my sister when living overseas and it was one of the hardest experience I had to go through, especially on the flight home. The film captured all of this beautifully. Bravo!
This is easily one of the best examples of when a cinematographer loves the film...such an entertaining movie that makes going to the movies magical. A must watch for anyone looking for a movie that will leave you in awe.
i LOVED this movie! I wish there were more scenes with the love interest from Brooklyn! It was too short :(
Ahh I adored this film. Love stories typically don't do it for me, but this one was just incredible! The innocence throughout this film was really beautiful. I hope this one wins all the Oscars! Brooklyn is one for the books!
+Brooke A Wish i hadn't seen the trailer before, though! Gave a little too much away. A must see, nonetheless.
Can't wait to see this movie. I recommend reading the novel to anyone who hasn't, it's truly a work of art!
Best film I've seen in many a year.
Yes
The song that starts at 0:47 is "5-10-15 hours" by Ruth Brown
Took me forever to find it!
Molly and Bill Weasley and Horace Slughorn, I wanna watch this.
Such a beautiful, beautiful film. Even the trailer fills me with such unspeakable emotion.
thank god i didn't watch the trailer before i saw the movie!
same here
same. literally the whole movie
Watching this, I love to imagine and suspect that somewhere out there is an Eilis and Tony who met in the 50s and now have a giant family going back generations and have built a legacy together.
This movie was great. It deserves all the praise it's been getting. The entire theatre was laughing and crying the whole way. Definitely a great way to spend 2hrs. It's been a while since I've seen a good love story. Nowadays, they only get released by major studios if they have a "Nicholas Sparks" tag or affiliation. I hope Saoirse Ronan does get that nomination. I don't think she'll win, but I definitely think it'll make people pay more attention to her. She's been picking great roles for herself and this movie makes me look forward to her next one!
I’ve seen that movie. It’s beautiful.
I’m Polish and I live in Ireland since 2010 and to be honest I don’t know the Irish language but when that old man was singing a song at a Christmas lunch I started to cry. Even not understanding a word I knew that he must have been singing about their home land- Ireland. It’s sad that some ppl don’t get that that living away from your home can be momentarily depressing, hard, difficult. You miss your life there, ppl you knew. I miss my country. It’s tough sometimes but I know there is nothing for me in my home land. There is nothing to go back to. I’ve got my own family now. They are the ones I need to focus on. I love Ireland. 🇮🇪 ❤
When I saw that movie I fell in love with its aesthetic. I'm stuck at those past times and I only romanticize in the 50s, 60s when living in 2020 where flirting and relationships suck! I'm doomed 😭. Also I loved Saoirse Ronan. She's so talented. And Emory Cohen did a great job. Is it me or he has changed a lot now?
I actually screamed TITANIC at the beginning
I didn’t expect this film to be this great honestly , I absolutely loved every second of it.
OMG this is the first time in a Trailer makes me teary! I need to watch this! ❤️
I love this! Saoirse Ronan is an amazing actress. My favorite.
the story of your grandparents falling in love
Saoirse is wow! She has grown to such a beautiful woman. So talented. I loved her since Atonement.
This has been my favourite film for nearly 10 years, every time I think that’s not the case I watch it and it captures me and breaks my heart all over again. I wish everyone would watch it!
The colors are so bold, loud, and alive in this movie. Soarise look so pretty
This looks incredible! Haven't been this excited for a movie in a long time. Can't wait to see it. :)
vol43 Same for me since lovely bones
+Yvon Huynh lovely bones was shit
+vol43 I loved lovely bones , apparently some people just didnt understand the movie at all she is a wonderful actress cant wait till this is out on dvd
+Denise mccray : she is beyond amazing! Have you seen her in other films? If you get a chance to watch "Atonement" (earlier than "Lovely Bones") or a well done SyFy action movie called, "Hanna" (loved this one)...and there's one called, "How I Live Now" that is also very well done and she is brilliant in ALL of them!
She's nominated for an Oscar so happy for her
It was worth the watch ! I loved it so much that i couldn't stop thinking about it and asking my friends to watch . What a story !
Omg too many amazing actors/actresses need to see it!
This movie had me smiling most of the time.. awesome awesome movie. Loved it!!!!💕💕💕
Nick Hornby did the script? Saoirse Ronan? JIM BROADBENT? All in one film? Where do I sign up????
:)
And freaking DOMHNALL GLEESON! God, what an amazing cast!
I've watched this movie for the sixth time. I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.
One of the two best movies I have ever seen. Light, clever and meaningful
Only movie I can watch over and over again it truly is the most beautiful story
same
This is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
Just watched it wow it was a gem. Very well written and directed. 👍🏾 up to all the actors and actresses well done. The music score is truly amazing. I am gonna watch it again
Just watched this after seeing a few other of Ms. Ronan’s movies. A Beautiful film.
this is actually such an underrated movie oh my gosh.... so well done.
I actually had this movie in my PC for a long time and I thought it was kinda boring so I didn't watch it for quite some time. Last night, I couldn't sleep and I decided to watch this. When the movie ended, oh man.. I loved the entire movie. I love the era, the vintage clothes and cars, and especially the old-fashioned romance.
please how did you get the movie
I got a copy from a friend. She downloaded it from the internet.
This is truly an epic and inspiring movie for all that left their native lands and settled somewhere else.It may seem like a cliche but once you live abroad you do find someone really special that is foreign as well and never let her go because she is your home. You do settle into a job, college or Uni and yes slowly one by one all your relatives will pass away.I remember seeing this movie just before I wanted to leave my country of origin I taught that this is just a beautiful story but this really does happen to most migrants regardless of their background. Now I've just seen the trailer and I literally can't stop crying. This movie was a masterpiece.
I watched it yesterday and I thought it was absolutely amazing! love from Greece
thee most beautiful romantic movie since Notebook 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
+Sherece Perry true :)
Yaaaaasss the feelssssssss 😭
I recommend far from the Madding Crowd:)
I actually prefer Titanic to Notebook
+Hamdi Ali hassan me tooo :)))
I just saw the movie and enjoyed it so much that first thing I did was see the trailer to get a glimpse again. great acting and really sweet.
I love this movie, especially the homesick feeling is so real and I GET through this before. I HAD gone back my home for two years and then come back to us again. Which is so simliar to this movie. I can feel this.
It's one of those comfort film you'll watch more than once for every kind of occasion/ mood.
Can't blame Tony, Irish girls are the best especially the accent. Oooh lord, it's as smooth as butter
Wanna watch this! Saoirse looks stunning 💕
I REALLY LOVE THIS MOVIE! SO AMAZING AND TONY IN THE FILM IS SO ATTRACTIVE!
I'm from Ireland and I moved to France to work so I adore and relate to this movie a lot
Saorise Ronan is definately due for another Oscar nom... its been 8 years since she was nominated for "Atonement." Can't wait to see her in this beautiful looking film.
"I really like Irish girls."
Wonderful quote
just saw it today... its now one of my favorite movies
Brooklyn is literally one of my favorite movies💗💗
such an amazing film just watched it gave me the warm fuzzy feels
I watched this last night and it is beautifully made film in terms of acting, writing and period feel. But most of all, what makes it interesting is the story is of an educated and middle-class Irish girl emigrating to the USA in the 1940s who actually finds her social standing and economic status does not improve upon arriving in Brooklyn.
What I loved most about the story is that it brings home why everyone should move to a foreign country - even if for a while - as it grows you as a human being.
because it is not a Hollywood film there is zero jingoism with no transgender Chinese baker at the end reciting the Gettysburg Address.
It shows what made America great: ordinary decent people.
One of my favourite movies. 😭 Fell in love with Tony's character.
Beautiful Movie:) The kind of movie you'll never get tired watching.
This film stays in the heart- I love the catholic bits- i wish someone made tv series out of this film with the same actors- Irish people has brought Saint Patric to US and the catholic culture, they worked so hard , they built also catholic churches- i think Saint Patrick Cathedral that was on Spiderman 1 movie - Stan Lee put this amazing building at the background- i didnt know how beautiful is inside- and that abp Fulton Sheens body was there till last year... he will be blessed this year- the amazing miracle happened when people prayed to him- a child came back to life i think.
Please make Brooklyn tv series on Amazon video- we need good and heart catching tv for family time...
Family, children, love, christianity , beautiful scenery
I want an Italian guy now lol. Even if things have changed over the decades, I don’t care, they’re all charming ! 😊
😂I know one who says "hate women" every time he walks past my group of friends lol
literally one of my fav movies, had my first watched only during the quarantine.
I left my family behind in England to get married in America. Immigration process is so long and I miss them so much :(
This movie is amazing!
After reading the book, I feel that this trailer gives away too much of the plot
+bleedingbatho even for people who didnt read the book the trailer still give away most of its plot lol
I agree. I didn't read the book but after watching the trailer I feel like I know too much to really be surprised about anything in the movie .
+ceceoo3 Book and movie can not be the same
First book I've read before becoming a film! I'm glad. Have to see it!
Gosh I love this movie. It's one of my favorites. This trailer is amazing too.
Damn I love this girl and her acting and her accent more.
