In this AVGN the Nerd reviews Trespasser, a Jurassic Park FPS PC game from 1998. The game was billed as a "digital sequel" to the 1997 film The Lost World: Jurassic Park, on which it is based. The game is noted for the involvement of the film's director, Steven Spielberg and actors Richard Attenborough and Minnie Driver. The ambitious game ultimately received mixed to negative reviews at the time and disappointed many reviewers. This is Angry Video Game Nerd episode 172.

I was a part of the modding community over a decade ago. I'm fairly familiar with the development and can confidently say time wouldn't have helped. The game had already been delayed for years.

There was some sort of big article or questions answered section somewhere that mentioned what he said. Basically everyone thought they were bulletproof then when it came time to execution, they weren't able to do what they set out to do. Code was causing all sorts of issues w/ AI and such. It had such potential and they fucked up.
I think James is quite famous even in the industry.
He does that every once in a while, really appreciate it, you get your avgn episode, as well as some insight into what’s reviewed, really shows he cares and loves doing this.
Time and buget is the usual culprit.

i am so impressed that the AVGN has upped the production value of the re-enactments, costumes etc. but also investigating / contacting the original developers and contributors to the game. this is an awesome mish-mash of the old AVGN from back in the ScrewAttack days to the new CZcams era. I keep coming back for these - keep it up.

Seamus seems like a really chill dude, and it appears that he's taken the deservedly poor reception and commercial failure of his game in stride. The failure of _Tresspasser_ obviously didn't affect him too deeply, as he went on to conceptualize the console that catapulted Microsoft to the apex of the console market.

I got this game for my birthday when I was a kid or in my early teens. I totally loved it and didn't realize this was an unfinished buggy game. I always tried to make progress again after I had dropped it for a while, but it was hard to get far. However, I never truly disliked the game.
Ah, and I was really afraid of the hostile dinosaurs for a long time. Not anymore. When I last played it, I was surprised how unscary I found them and how easily I was able to outmaneouver and kill them.
I only got to play this game on my cousins computer back in the day but I remember that I constantly looked behind my back, checking for the raptors.

I love that one of the actual creators did give his thoughts when making the game at the time and knows that sadly that's all they had to work with.
Yeaa AVGN always rips bad games a new one, so it's nice to hear what really went wrong with the game for once
I come from game dev, and you'll find a similar time pressure story behind most bad games. Though some situations are definitely due to hiring under-talented people, probably because they were cheaper.

I've heard of other people not numbering series due to the algorithm. It assumes most people won't start a series at part 40 of a let's play, and thus won't recommend it or put it in feeds, etc. So if it's episode 179 or whatever of AVGN, CZcams won't promote it nearly as much as just "AVGN". That's my guess anyways.

For all the hate this game gets, I loved it when I was younger. Although never had too much issue with frame rates or textures. Big love to the modding community for keeping it alive though.

@Harry Peterson I've heard C9 Hi-Points perform better with 124gr +P ammo instead of the standard 115gr. I haven't tested that though.

I just want you to know that we really appreciate the amount of effort and time you’re putting into these videos to make them not only entertaining, but also interesting and multi-dimensional. Really great review! The interview at the end really brought it together. Sad they did't have the time and resources to finish the game the way they wanted but I still think its a very interesting game concept (I only played the demo back in the day and watched the review here though).
It's amazing that even after 15 Years, James Rolfe & Cinemassacre continues to be top-notch internet content.
