Please like and subscribe and I will answer questions quickly.
THIS VIDEO EXPLAINS HOW TO CUT AROUND AND FLASH BOOTS. HOW TO INSTALL PIPE FLASHINGS OR PIPE BOOT. ALSO SHOWS HOW TO INSTALL A VALLEY ON A METAL ROOF. You need to check local building codes before doing your roof this way. Some states or counties require you to use 1 x 4's to strip the roof and some type of underlayment. Felt or synthetic. You may also choose to use some type of closures on the ridge and at the bottom of your roof. You may also want to tear your roof off. But the video shows you the basics on what you need to know about how to do a metal roof. I hope this video has been helpful to at least a few of you.

Who ever is in charge of replying to youtube comments on behalf of Armour Metals understands zero about public relations. Responding to comments as snarky and disrespectfully as you consistently have not only makes you look immature and ignorant.. but also makes your company incredibly unprofessional. Not to mention how posting footage of these shortcuts you take during installation makes your company look. Forget whether this method is just as effective and will last as long installed this way. (which it will not) Regardless, unfortunately for you, most people who've had a "professional" metal roof installed have been exposed to the idea that this is not accepted as the "industry standard" for metal roof installation. Advertising this on youtube is just an idiotic way of begging people to make reputation damaging comments about ArmourMetals. Keep it up! This company is just full of ways to make themselves look bad. I'm impressed!

Read the description before you start criticizing my videos. It humors me how many experts watch a video on how to install metal roofing. Bye Bye. Next

This was a decent residential sheet metal job. I would have done a few things different but these guys did a good job and as long as the house doesn't leak is all that matters

if you want them to install or strip out the roof with 1x4's first, then attached the metal to the 1x4's they will....armour metals and one of their subcontractors just did my roof, finished today, and it looks great! Shimmed the 1x4's to get out any low spots before installing the metal too. I did my research before I selected a company and got several bids before I decided on who to use. Couldnt beat the price and the warranty. Looking forward to several years enjoying my new roof! Thanks!

Wow! It takes guts for you to put this on the Internet for all to see. Like the masked magician showing how to do tricks, risking criticism from other magicians.
There are a lot of legitimate roofers out there like you, but since weve had a lot of severe weather they stay busy, they cant afford to take what I can afford. So it leaves me a few options, get ripped off or do it myself. Keep up the good work and thanks for your detailed videos.
May the Lord richly bless you!

I have a question. If you lay your metal directly on the shingles, would the expanding and contracting of the metal not eventually wear a hole in the metal?

I put metal roofing over shingles on my house over 5 years ago. I put it on an outbuilding 18 years ago over bare plywood. I could have used this video. On the other hand both roofs look as good as the day that they were installed. There is no evidence anywhere of any leakage, rust, damage, nothing. The outbuilding I can look at the inside of the plywood and there is not a hint of leakage or moisture.

I was told it would not void the warranty. I have a question though. If you lay the metal directly on the shingles, would the expanding and contracting of the metal not wear a hole in the metal?

Metal and shingles contract and expand at the same rate. If you were to remove the metal after a year and inspect the underside it would look as if it were new.

@lanej1446 So let me get this right, if I would have torn off the shingles that would have made it withstand more wind? How. This video was meant to help people understand some of the basics of installing a metal roof. I have customers all the time how to do most of the things in this video. It has been helpful for many people. KI didn't put this video up for know it all web surfers. Most likely not enough fasteners or too short to penetrate the roof decking was the cause. Only damage in town?

  • @Realmetalroofer88
    @Realmetalroofer88 Před 13 lety +24

To start you dont lay metal directly over shingles. The vents do not vent thru the ribs there is no draw to allow the metal to do so. watch out for rip off roofers because they will lie to you everytime. the only thing this video shows is how not to lay metal on a roof.

@fahhaf Who gives the warranty? Do you even know? do you think it's the manufacturer of the raw steel? The coil coater? the broker? or the roll former? Take your pick in the finger pointing game. But if I tell a customer they can put it over shingles and they have a problem then I'll take care of it. You know it all roofers find me some picture or video proof of where putting metal right over shingles has failed I'll Post new videos.

Why do some put wood strips between the old roof and the metal, and you guys just put it right down on top, to tell you, I`ve never seen it done this way, always with wood strips, but I have to say I like this better, could you explain the difference for me.

Stephen Hall sometimes houses need it to help level everything out. Most contractors though try and act like its some huge deal and you need purlins because they make more money off of you.

You put 1x4 on the shingles every 24 inches then screw your metal down to them. This is if you ONLY have one layer of asphalt shingles to roof over.

NEVER install metal roof over shingle with out 1x 4 wood strapping!!!!!! Directly install metal roof right on shingles will damage the metal roofing in 5 year or less . The sun heat up the metal roof to expand and contract with shingles under the metal will cause friction between two different roof will make hole in it.

John Charrier and that's a straight up lie. Iv done this for years and never once has a roof had a hole worn in it. My dad and grandpa have done this long before I was doing it and they also did it this way. Guess what the roofs are still fine today.

@stuckinmyass Minerals have chemicals? Cool. If you want to put a moisture barrier, put one. Metal roofing has been installed over open rafters for over a century . The need for underlayment is optional.
