    Have had the original Coosa for years and have gone through a number of Class IIIs with it. Love the weight and how nimble it is on the river. Would not mind trying the Coosa X, just worried about the weight. Especially when fully loaded. Is it just me or is anyone else curious about a Coosa style kayak with that white water style rocker, but with a drop skeg on it? Maybe it is just because I like the whitewater part of a trip more than some folks do. Probably not much of market for it. I think what I would like is an original Coosa with a drop skeg and a little more width, stability, and the hull design of the Coosa X. Oh would need to come with custom thigh straps and associated mounts :). Ok, Eric Jackson can I come use your facility to work on this, LOL!

    So, at 18:38 where you go through that shallow rocky portion, which of the two do you believe is best in that circumstance? The Coosa X is said to draft very shallow water.. But when there are rocks to navigate at the same time, does this "shallow draft ability" help get through without so much rock dragging? I realize that you may have taken a slightly different passage than your friend in the Jackson.. Besides that, which do you feel is likely to drag the rocks in those types of waters? Thank you for this comparison video.

      I'm going to say I'd rather be in the shoalie going through something like that! Hard to tell which one truly floats shallower especially in spots like that where your going to hit in just about any kayak, but the fact the shoalie is just so maneuverable

    Both are designed by Drew Gregory. Drew designed the 2012 Coosa to be a river and lake kayak that handles whitewater. I LOVE my 2012 Coosa. The hull flexes on it and it bounces off of rocks

    They only need to swap the bow of the Coosa X for the bow of the Cuda. The Coosa X reminds me of someone's old bathtub. Why isn't there a Cuda in the same configuration as the Coosa X. If you want to stand and fish I believe the Bonafide yaks are more stable. I tried a friends Sholie and it was a little tippy. After I started standing, seeing the structure and fish before they strike I couldn't go back to sitting to fish. It's also much easier to skip lures under limbs when standing.

  • @ThomasMichaelSeaboldt

    Someone had posed the question of which one of these two would be better to stand and Fish out of the other day on Facebook, they're 6 ft 2 and 210 pds and intend on using an Xi3 Trolling Motor, so I told them the Coosa X since I'm 6ft 1 at 250 pds and Fish from a Crescent Shoalie, albeit NOT STANDING but from a seated position since standing is not its strong point. Of course everyone convinced the Guy that I was wrong, but I guess he'll find out on his own.

    I've had the Shoalie for two weeks...amazing how this boat crosses current without being turned...paddles upstream easily...turns on a dime...has very good speed in low seating position...a bit slower in the high seat position...but turns even easier...in the high position you are further back and the nose lifts up a bit more. I paddle upstream a lot...so... this is a great kayak for that. 6'4 270...34 inch inseam...plenty of extra room ...still working out the tackle and rod storage and how I want everything.

    Its interesting to see how two different kayak companies built river type kayaks that handle very differently. But it is two different companies with different designers. It would be interesting to compare the new Coosa X to the original Coosa designed by Drew Gregory. Maybe the RVR fits in between the two if you compare its specifications.

      with a 330lb capacity the rvr doesnt fit in anywhere especially if you are a heavy paddler.

  • @MysticalDragon73
    @MysticalDragon73 Před rokem +1

    The coosa X has a super shallow draft. TG canoe and kayak stated this about the three boats: The consensus at TGCK would be the Coosa X is the toughest and best river runner of the three pure river fishing kayaks, which includes the Shoalie and the RVR119.
    The RVR has a capacity of 330 lbs because bonafide deceptively wants the boats weight subtracted from the capacity. This is ABSURD with the size and pricepoint of the boat. Not to mention people need to stop supporting a company with such deceptive and DANGEROUS practices. If you are a larger paddler the rvr has little to no wiggle room at all.

    • @BASSnBEER

      @@BASSnBEER Always good to know and its nice to be able to compare boats side by side. The nearest crescent dealer to me is a few hours away. However, I was needing a boat between the Bite and the big rig when I need to haul saws but I dont need the maxed capacity of the big rig. Thats why I got my coosa X as it fit that. Im just waiting on some decent weather to get mine on the water now.
      Few know about the RVR's minimal capacity Sadly even many dealers dont know that bonafide wants you to subtract the boat weight from the capacity. I've had to inform them of that.
      I got burned when I got my SS127. At the time I got it, Bonafide wasnt even letting people know how they calculated capacity and were marketing it with 475lb capacity. I started loading the boat and thankfully noticed how low it was sitting at 375lbs. I stopped loading it and let others take some gear I'd expected to haul. It could have gotten very dangerous if I hadn't done that, and loaded it to the 475 lbs that I should have been able to. This is one of the reasons Im so irritated with bonafide and call them out so much.
