- There’s two things we know for certain about Mark Jackson at least. He’s a people person and he know’s basketball. We know this because all his life he’s chosen to surround himself with multiple personalities all around him as first a basketball player, and being an ordained minister leading his own church. There’s no question his basketball IQ and knowledge far surpasses most involved in the sport on earth, as you’d have to be a smart player, that understands offenses and defenses like the back of your hand to be top 5 all time in assist in NBA history before recently being passed by Chris Paul and Lebron James, currently sitting at 6th all time. He took a bottom feeding Warriors franchise to the brink of soon winning a championship, improving them every year from 23 wins to 47 wins, to a 51 win team before he was fired. Then to display that as one of the best broadcaster in basketball currently, shows on three levels mark Jackson dominated his role in the sport of basketball, whose resume shouldn’t be questioned. Whose absence from coaching ever since what he turned the Warriors into is astounding and plain sad he hasn’t gotten a second opportunity. For the reasons I’ll attempt to explain from my perspective, Mark Jackson ultimately rubbed people the wrong way in his style of winning and because of it, he’s been gold balled from the league as a coach, after being one of the more promising in recent years. 3 Real Reasons The NBA Hates “Coach” MARK JACKSON! Mark Jackson is easily a favorite basketball head of mine, and I believe he has some great qualities to be a leader and easily an NBA coach. Player's mostly love playing for him. Did he make some mistakes? Yes! But it was his first year and his potential spoke way louder than his mistakes. He deserves another chance. Guarantee he turns a team around. Crazy he wasn't allowed that chance.

Anyone can coach that superteam when you add such a great defenders and top draft pics like them. Even Walton won 50 or so games with Curry and that crew.

He was fired because of how he related to others. Many people share his faith, yet do not wear it on their sleeve, bully others with it or allow it to dominate their coaching or personal style. If you cannot operate in a secular social collaboration, you will struggle in a melting pot environment. What's happened to Mark Jackson is just one indication of corruption in the NBA's power-structure.
The problem was very simple, the Warriors have a gay front office person and Mark expressed his religious opinion and that’s all it was. The NBA will not hire him because of political correctness.
It's always been the elephant in the room. But, the thing that I've always found funny is that the NBA never had any issues with Phil Jackson instituting Buddhist practices within the team cultures at both Chicago and LA Lakers. He had their entire team participating in such practices and he's referred to as the "Zen Master." He was also strong willed just like Mark and he wasn't particularly liked by the owners of said teams either. So, what's the real issue?? This question is rhetorical by the way. Let the reader understand.
I was thinking the same thing. Jackson is more or less religious and strong-willed. Jackson is confident, high moral guy, loyal, well liked and highly competent. That’s screams threat for some reason. Meanwhile Luke Walton gets coaching jobs handed to him.

It's not a race thing, and its not a Christianity thing. Its a Conservative Christianity in the Bay Area thing. Jackson made several comments against same sex marriage and other equal rights related to orientation and gender identity. That bigoted bullshit doesn't fly in the Bay Area for obvious reasons. That being said, objectively he walked so Steve Kerr could run.

Mark Jackson was a really good coach, but he went against a machine that is way to powerful for him to oppose and he has coached his last game unfortunately. He is also one of my favorite commentators and he may have called his last game as well unfortunately. I hope for the best for him. But him living and feeling the way he does apparently unforgivable by the NBA and that cold.

Organization picking the coach's assistants is a new thing relatively, most of the great coaches in nba history didnt let the front office pick their assistants. Phil Jackson, Larry Brown and Pat Riley didnt let the owners pick their staff. Owners and management just picked the head coach. The head coach is the person who is supposed to hire the staff. Do you see Robert Kraft telling Bill Belichick who to hire? I dont think so! People need to stop acting like it was "out of line" for Mark Jackson to wanna pick his own assistants. All the Organization is doing when they wanna pick ur assistant coaches is hiring ur future replacement. A much-appreciated presentation! Thanks. Interestingly, Jackson was criticized for not taking on suggestions for assistant coaches. That he wanted "his guys" with him on the bench. Allegedly, Steve Kerr's best friend, Bruce Fraser or "Q" (as he's called, interestingly) is Kerr's best friend. Kerr has been criticized by some of the beat writers and other media types around the Warriors, for not having a dynamic coaching staff. It is damn near a crime that strong-willed "black" coaches have a short leash, regardless of their prowess. I have seen this dynamic my entire life. Mark Jackson is worthy and a legend in New York. He has a right to his thoughts and worldview. Others do and it does not prevent them from prospering in life.

He's a devout Christian that made some remarks about ABC community. The NBA don't like that. He's an outstanding person, player and coach and deserves to be a coach.
It matters in ALL professions if you are liked or disliked by your colleagues and management. It doesn’t matter if you think it is right, or if you are better than the next guy.
The person that gets along, and has comparable talent will be chosen most times over a “malcontent”. I’ve seen it firsthand, and been part of management that has made these types of decisions.
All the self righteous feelings one may have won’t mean a thing when it comes time for job assessment. Life ain’t fair, people have feelings (men and women) and management and employees have cliques.
If you are going one way and everyone else is going another, they will get you out of there. Everyone that has worked anywhere knows this is the case, like it or not. At the end of the day, nobody cares about your sob story.
By denouncing a person as well respected in NBA circles as Rick Welts and demeaning future championship head coaches like Mike Malone, he pretty much signed his own NBA death sentence. And it’s not like he’s a Phil Jackson or Gregg Popovich or even a Doc Rivers or Erik Spoelstra level head coach. He’s a decent coach, but Kerr coming in the next season and winning a chip with basically the same time is a huge indictment.

Sorry but there are some things that I don't agree with him not being a coach not only in the NBA but a coach even in the NCAA. He could be a major impact on any level and would definitely become a figure of leading young men especially in college. However, it's his decision IF he wants to be a head coach. We all have to persevere with some challenges that are placed in front of us. He did an OUTSTANDING job with the Warriors and I will say that GSW first championship was HIS doing.
NOW, with all these college jobs being literally handed to some former NBA players that are really not working, M. Jackson would be a great guy that could lead college players and bring in other coaches (both young and old) that are just as hungry as he is. Also, cannot push RELIGION on people. that is your thing so allow players to go but not be forced.

I know for myself that if I want to be back in the coaching field, then I am going to apply on ALL levels. There's more than the NBA that need his service. But I guess that ESPN money at the time was more lucrative plus less stressful and also he has his church in LA so don't know if he even has the time. I know for sure that If applies for a college gig, he will be hired at a D1 program that will respect what he demands from his staff and his players and be back in the mix.

When you are unwilling to take direction from the owners of an organization, no other owners of similar organizations are going to want to deal with you. An employee is in no position to be a "my way or the highway" kind of guy.
Owners want a winning team, a coach to turn the failing team around and build a good foundation for future championships. That's what Mark did, you give talent like his whatever he wants. It would be foolish for an owner to demand a winning coach to do it their way.
The truth is whoever would coach them from then on would have a lot of media attention and they didn't support Marks philosophy. Plus they knew the foundation was already built up.

I don’t think folks realize that Mark coached with no assistants. That’s unheard of at the professional level (college or higher). He also butted heads with management and ownership (not a good way to keep your job).
Feel like hed be a great coach for a team built around or with a star PG.. Maybe like trae young for example with them both being smaller point gaurds and help guide or mentor trae.. nate McMillin started out strong with the hawks and was a great defensive shooting gaurd in his day but feel like mark would possibly be a better match for trae since they play similarly as far as being a small gaurd with great or good playmaking.. obviously mark wasnt much of a scorer but feel like he could possibly help trae and the hawks depending the players around him or if somd of the current players take a leap in the next year or two... and he coached steph and jumpstarted the warriors dynasty for steve kerr

Larry Riley was instrumental in the Warriors sucess.
Jackson did build the foundation of the dynasty. His weakness was his lack of focus on defensive improvement. When the Warriors focus became Defense creates Offense, the team became champions. I love Mark Jackson and was the first to say the Warriors must recognize his contributions. I do believe given the owners background, Marks beliefs did conflict with them. I was upset at his firing. But, You cannot deny Kerr and the success they've had as the coach. Kerr made me believe although it hurt, in the long run the right decision was made
so he doesn't deserve any other coaching opportunities?

Good video! We always see guys who we think should be given a spot in the nba, a “why isn’t this guy here.” Thing. But I am gravitating more towards the owners, I think at least the homophobia thing is…possibly more true than not.
Here are my thoughts:
1)I noticed that so Many of the commentators think that Jackson’s as fired because of his Christian beliefs and that “the elites” compote against him. That is right wing conspiracy talk. No Christians in this country are Persecuted to the extent that many believe they are. MOST nba and sports athletes are religious. That’s a stupid idea to think otherwise m. The reality is that the NBA ownership is full of the same workplace drama you’d find for any industry that is exclusive. If someone makes a bad impression. Well chances are that is passed down. Whatever he did was apparently so off that no one wants to touch him. Again, that isn’t saying a lot considering wife beaters have been given chances. But not everyone is treated the same.
2)executives control the team, the coach is suppose to abide by the owners. That’s unfair, but that’s what upper management is. In any industry you have to listen to your boss.
3)if the stories are true about Jackson with his religious discussions and actions, then yes that is inappropriate. You cannot force your players to abide by your extreme religious beliefs and actions.
4)the homophobia thing is tricky. It dosnt appear aside from hearsay, but a few things pop out. WHY would that be said about him? Like that specifically? Second, jackson did actually mention Jason Collins s and reportedly said this “ "As a Christian man, I have beliefs of what's right and what's wrong," replied Jackson. "That being said, I know Jason Collins, I know his family and I'm certainly praying for them at this time." yes that is homophobia. Did he actually say it? I wish we had more clarification on that but it seems odd that an entire organization would make that story up. People have been fried for less.
