  • James O'Brien highlights the hypocrisy of right-wing media blaming Keir Starmer for the riots, having given so much 'airtime' to figures like Nigel Farage, Katie Hopkins, and 'Tommy 10 names'.
The Prime Minister has vowed that those taking part in "far-right thuggery" will "regret taking part" and has promised to crack down on the wave of riots which have gripped Britain.
"Be in no doubt: those who have participated in this violence will face the full force of the law.
"The police will be making arrests. Individuals will be held on remand. Charges will follow. And convictions will follow," he added.
However, Starmer has been criticised for 'not clamping down' on the far-right enough, as violent scenes continue to escalate across the UK.

When we arrived in England 52 years ago , because we were given 90 days to leave the country ,where many of us were born , we were accommodated slightly better than modern day asylum seekers. We were placed temporarily in military barracks , with acres of space. Current asylum seekers would think that we were given "paradise" compared to what they have now.
However we had the NF and British Movement thugs to contend with.
52 years later , NOTHING has changed!
The modern NF is the EDL ,and modern Format of the British Movement is REFORM UK!

The problem is that there are two distinct and completely different versions of 'British values'. The first and the one shared by most British people, indeed the one shared by most people no matter where they come from, is to stand up to bullies and protect the downtrodden. To share what we have and help each other. That's not just British values, it's Human values.
But there's another set of values. I call it either Aristocratic values, or Empire values. That is to take what you can and claim it for your own. To exploit others for your own gain. To be those bullies that Human values stand up against.
The Far Right, when they claim to be for 'British values', are really for that second set of values but they want us to think they are for the first set. But we can see who they really are from their actions. They are thugs and bullies and the vast majority of British people, the vast majority of Humanity, will not ever support them.

You see, this is precisely the way of thinking that leads someone to become Far Right and behave like these thugs. There are some cultural differences between Nations but those cultural differences have nothing to do with 'values' in that way. 'Values' implies a different morality, and someone's morals have nothing to do with which Nation they come from. It's precisely the false idea that morality has something to do with Nationality that leads to the sort of Far Right mentality that thinks other Nationalities are a threat.

Here where I live, boring old Canada, we have taken in over 200,000 Ukrainian refugees in a very short period of time. The Farage adjacent contingent here is verrryyy vocal about South Asian immigrants, just plain old Asian immigrants, and immigrants of Islamic faith, but not a peep from them about the Ukrainians. Many of the Ukrainians have settled in my area of Toronto. I can’t help but notice how many of them are blonde.
