Cause I can't see how she would get a video on this channel before Napoleon or Genghis Khan has one 🤯
My uncle was a hat designer and designed hats for the Duchess when the Duke was the Governor of the Bahamas. I have a letter writeb by the secretary of the Cuxhess thanking my uncle for the hats.
WoW! You could auction that off.
That's so cool. A piece of history
A decadent piece of history… & A nice family heirloom too!
A very fair and balanced biography! Thank you for posting! Well done!!!
I totally agree. However, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, did not perish with her husband the Duke of Kent in the plane crash in Scotland during WW II. She died of natural causes in the 1960's.
The Duke of Kent, younger brother of the Duke of Windsor, served in the armed forces and was killed in a plane crash in 1942. The commentary stated his wife died in the crash with him. This is incorrect. He was on military business and she remained at home with her three children, the youngest being the current Prince Michael of Kent who was only a few weeks old when his father died. The duchess, Princess Marina of Greece, died in 1968, not in 1942.
🤔 I wonder what else may be incorrect? Thank you for pointing that out. 😊
Just what I was about to comment. A serious mistake.
Research and truth are not the thing for people who really want to upload a video. They often only present their dangerous half-knowledge and thereby dumb down people.
Enjoyed your profile of Wallis and Edward very much. Her epitaph should read, “Be careful what you wish for.”
Personally I always say: Be careful what you wish for; you just might GET It. 💡
Sounds to me like Edward had serious issues....
He had anorexia and his poor brother, Bertie had a serious speech impediment.
Their childhood caused CPTSD.
@@marciloni12 I believe that THIS is why Diana decided to rear her sons in the manner she did: she wanted them to be in touch with the world and with people. I hope that Kate and Meghan are half as maternal as Diana was.
I believe Megan is ❤@@DVPerry220
One erroneous fact in this commentary is that the Duchess of Kent did not die in the 1942 plane crash that killed her husband who was a serving RAF officer. She lived for many more years, eventually suffering from cancer.
I was about to comment on this myself. Princess Marina lived into the late 60s.
Well said
I was just about to comment on this
Para la época que corría era impensado que el rey se casará con ella y convertirla en Reina.
La monarquía precisaba una mujer joven y saludable, sin tacha y que pudiera darle herederos a la Corona. Wallis no era todo eso
I think everything happens for a reason. If the Duke of Windsor hadn’t abdicated the monarchy wouldn’t have survived after the war and we’d never know what it would have been like to have Queen Elizabeth the second as Englands longest reigning monarch!! I think Edward and Wallis deserved each other just like Harry and Meghan do , it’s amazing how History sometimes repeats itself!!
UK not England
Facts and it may die with Charles.,unless another pivot is taken
You can have your monarchy but for many it’s nothing but an inbred bunch of parasites. If you fall for the pomp and drama I suppose it serves some purpose. Under the Queen the official Empire disintegrated, however the Shadow Empire remains. The Windsors own 6.6 billion acres worldwide which constitutes more than one sixth of the planet’s land area. Meanwhile Charles schemes alongside Klaus Schawb from the WEF to ensure that the rest of the peasants will own nothing and eat bugs!
Wallis was as good as the hunch back Rottweiler tampon Charlie married...or any of the other do nothing grifters...
Maybe there wouldnt be a WEF ssusage fingered globalist in the seat. He should have deferred to William. But, no, he wants to destroy the monarchy for his WEF buddies..
I had always thought this was supposed to be a great love. Seems more like she was never really happy or content with her own choices in life.
Say what you will about Wallis, but she definitely was a go-getter! ( or a go-get- him I should say lol) I admire her tenacity and unwillingness to allow those around her to drag her down. Especially back when women were barely seen as 2nd class citizens.. Excellent documentary!
She was a gold digging nazi-lover.
If she had committed to her second husband and lived a simpler life instead of throwing extravant parties causing him overwork she could have had a simlpier but decent life
Interesting, not much that a comment could be made on, my mind was made up years ago that they deserved each other. The old adage of be careful what you wish for certainly fits. The Duke I believe thought he could walk away from his responsibilities but would still live out his life in Britain, the slow dawning on him that that was never going to be allowed must have been shocking and his wife got her comeuppance at being denied HRH title which also was a subtle payback directed at him and caused him years of hurt frustration. You reap what you sow also fits.
I have by now read several accounts of the abdication, and listened to video documentaries on CZcams. The impression I get is that the whole story of the deposition of King Edward VIII -- and the exact role Wallis played in it -- is a lot more complex than the traditional one presented in history books. To this day, I don't have an entirely clear idea as to whether she was the reason, excuse, or scapegoat for the abdication. Perhaps it depends on who you ask ... perhaps, in a way, Wallis was a combination of all three ...
I agree! She seemed to be all 3!
All three, I think!! Traitor King and That Woman are both fascinating books - they fill in a few of the gaps in this documentary.
Definitely all 3. 👍
She was enjoying being A Woman. Then he became obsessed. Hell is the Trepidation In Each Step. So sometimes one cannot close The Door
It was actually a Blessing in disguise or we might be living in a communist Country! They were weird about hitler those pictures made me sick to my stomach !
The woman who ended a reign for better or for worse.
Edward VII, most probably, would’ve been a disaster during the WWII Era.
@@elainekilgore1352agreed. Edward was an emotionally stunted man, who lacked the ability to subjugate his personal wants for the benefit of his country.
@@kathyjones3586 , from what I’ve seen over the years, I’d agree.
Given his behavior during WWII, I suspect Edward VII would have sided with Hitler if he had been king, undermining or even ending Great Britain's stance against Nazi Germany.
The very characteristics we tend to dislike her for are the reason she accidentally saved Great Britain from its king.
Probably better… he would have caused a lot of instability and unrest if he had reigned… he wasn’t built to be an opinion less figurehead… and as a Nazi sympathizer he could have destroyed the world during WWII
Absolutely fascinating. Doctor, you’re in a league by yourself as an investigative historian.
I’ve always been fascinated by Wallis.
Thank you for this well done biography
Oh, how history repeats itself!
If “she” could side with the UK’s enemies “she” would also.
With Charles and CowMilla.
It seems that the Duke and "Duchess" of Sussex have used Wallis Simpson and Edward's lives as a playbook.
Honestly, I have been waiting for this video since I discovering your wonderful channel. Thank you so much for putting this together!
In retrospect Wallace did Britain a great favour by marrying David/Edward thus removing him as King of Great Britain and the Empire; considering his weakness and instability which would have boded badly for the Allies in WW2, considering his association with the British Fascists and them having met Hitler in a seemingly conciliatory manner. The British Government realized that; and once the Windsors were in "ostensibly neutral" Lisbon in 1940 and safely tucked them away in the Bahamas as Governor for the war's entirety.
You guys are the best when it comes to this documentaries. Hope that history teachers can learn from you. And for the next royal one please do Athelstan!🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
Brilliant documentary of Wallis Simpson. Gareth, you have a great voice for documentaries! Thank you very much for this thorough and enlightening look at Wallis' life! I enjoyed this very much! ❤
Considering what she saved them from, there should be statues of this woman in every village in Britain.
My god watched this and immediately thought of Harry and Megan but at least the RF did exile them, Charles should do the same 👿🇬🇧
@@brendadickson1755 Effectively they are living in exile. H&M were invited to the coronation but it was pretty clear that they are persona non grata in the UK. The public generally detests them and for the most part, the Family is not on speaking terms with them. It's generally believed the King hasn't spoken to his son since the book was published.
@@jec1nythinking about it, that sounds quite likely given that Charles appears to have about as much emotional maturity as a used teabag. The entire RF - with the possible exception of Harry, and even he’s suspect - are renowned for their inability to deal with issues unless they absolutely have to, they would far rather ignore problems, pretend they don’t exist and hope that they just go away, than try and sort them out as though they were actually grown adults.

Bravo Wallis for having the fortitude to leave your abusive husband!!! I feel you led a sad life, I am sorry for that. Diamonds don't keep our hearts warm.
They call diamonds ice.
Why are you addressing your comment to WS? She's not alive.
Diamonds are all that warmed Wallis Simpson's cold heart - she certainly did not leave her kindly, loving husband Ernest Simpson and marry King Edward for love!
if she didnt .... she would have never been to London and have met the King.
Then why would she still write love letters to him after she married Edward? I doubt he was abusive.
Wonderful! A beautifully balanced biography.
Excellent documentary. I felt like it was fair and balanced.
The king used her to get out of a job he never wanted.
……too right! He was a useless person, & very lazy. Good riddance to bad rubbish………
He wasn't cut out for it anyway. Edward was a neurotic.
The wife of Prince George, Duke of Kent, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, was NOT killed alongside him in 1942.
1:04:38 Hi! If I remembered correctly, Prince George’s wife, the Duchess of Kent did not pass alongside with her husband in the crash. :)
No Princess Marina lived on until the 1960s
Edward never had a childhood ,wallis was the childhood he living in the rest of his life.He would have been a bad king.🤔🤔🤔🤔
I was always under the impression that Churchhill was annoyed by King Edward's childish behavior and ridiculous demands throughout World War 2.
Sad to hear his position towards them was so supportive. With only mild reprimands, the distractions they caused were outrageous.
Especially when the Duke kept calling for peace as Germany was trying to crush Britain.
Very informative and balanced presentation. Excellent work. While this video has softened my view of Wallace somewhat, it has intensified my view that Edward was a wholly despicable, feckless, shallow, entitled, weak-minded fool. If Wallace was used as the instrument to get rid of Edward, too bad for for her, but as such provided Great Britain with a great service.
In an episode of “My Grandparent’s War,” actor Kit Harrington looks into his grandfather John Harrington who was, among other things, a leading spy for England. One of Harrington’s postings was as top “minder” of Wallace and Edward in the Bahamas. Harrington described the couple as two of the most despicable people he’d ever known.
Wow, this leaves me with a much different perception of Wallis. I must admit, I have not researched her specifically before, but in cursory representations of the King's abdication and Wallis, it seemed as though she would have been very much into the King and perhaps even supported his abdication. This account however, sheds light on some things I didn't know and suggests that she may not have been as 'willing' a party to the entire situation as I previously thought. Thank you for a more balanced presentation on this situation.
The Duchess of Windsor is just the easy way out. In other words, it's just easy and a no-brainer to blame her for all of what happened. The woman always receives the blame.
More came out when he died and she refused to go see him on his deathbed according to the staff. She also made a fuss at his burial in the UK as the Queen granted his wish to be buried there, just not in the Vaults, but in the graveyard. She was filmed being cross with the Queen at the burial. I don't get a good feeling about her at all.
I doubt very much she was the "Maleficent" that she has been portrayed as in any biased history. It is as inevitable as blaming Eve for showing Adam where the apple grew. What charles did to Diana was worse!
Rubbish!
Really enjoyed this documentary. Well done. Thank you.
The funny thing is even if he didn't abdicate Queen Elizabeth the 2nd would have still been Queen as she was next inline as Wallis and Edward never had children
The ex king sounds exactly like another ex royal couple . Petty & Bitter until the bitter end . dying alone &without fanfare
A truly great documentary.
A very interesting documentary, however Princess Marina did not die with her husband, Prince George.
This was the best documentary on these two self obsessed, egotistical, out of touch people in the XX.century. Edward would have been a dreadful king, she saved, malgrè elle, the British people. Brilliant documentary, well researched, bravo and thank you!
I agree. We can look back and thank the Lord above that Edward did not become king. He was a weak and selfish man, without any backbone. She was a self centred woman who was a social climber. She did not want Edward to abdicate because she wanted to be, if not the wife, mistress of the King of England. She wanted to be able to create her own court.
Am I the only one who sees a lot of similarities to a couple who are presently alive? I am not referring to the King.
@@lizeggar2421……so true! Scary when one sees ‘history repeating itself’. But D & D of Windsor never publicly berated the Monarchy. They never ‘merched’ it, either………
@@lizeggar2421That is drivel. The present King is henpecked, dysfunctional. Inept and married to his former mistress, whose tampon he desired to be. It is amazingly foul and tainted. Diana, Princess of Wales is no longer alive. She ran head first into a life of ill repute for lack of love from a selfish self centered caricature of a Disney prince with Dumbo ears; flapping and flying in the wind.

*bear bear bear it wasn't a naked cross, we all have our cross to bear......omg smh
Wallis unlike Meghan Markle kept her mouth shut regarding her views of the Monarchy!
Pitty
I think in regards to Wallace, her actions speak louder than words. She was a Nazi enthusiast, and she was very infatuated with Hitler as was king Edward, which is why it is amazing that he abdicated because they eventually found out about that and it’s the only reason why he ever receives only one Redbox communications of the kingdom because theyso just because she didn’t have a chance to say what she wanted to say I mean it was way way back women in general never even really talk I mean was there even the suffrage movement at that point I can’t remember
Wallis & Meghan prove that you don't need to be young or beautiful to win over a powerful man's heart
Honestly I think MEghan is wayyy worse than Wallis!
Wallis was definitely an early 20th century diva! Something you didn’t often see in those times.. however she didn’t manipulate Edward or ask him to abdicate! In fact she told him he shouldn’t! MEghan on the other hand has been manipulating the other half of Harold & Freud since day 1…
……the ginger dimwit ‘powerful’? You jest!
Harry is not a powerful man. He's the spare.
I'm sure he felt she was beautiful! She was not an ugly woman.
How did Meghan manipulated Harry to leave?? Where you there to observe this?? Harry said in the Netflix docuseries that it was his decision entirely to stand back from the royal family Meghan had nothing to do with his decision. The royal family refused to allow them to earn their own income and still fulfil their royal duties. They were told either they are fully in or out but no way they couldn't be half in and out. The RF family are in a right mess bec of of their spiteful short sightedness. Charles marrying Camilla also caused turmoil for the monarchy and the nation, to this day Camilla is still hated by some. He made her queen after his mother said it was her wish that Camilla should be queen consort. His mother wasn't even long in her grave before Charles broke her wishes, just like he evicted Harry from Frogmore Cottage, the wedding gift the late queen bequeathed to him and his wife. Harry did Not abdicate, its a totally different scenario. Harry & Meghan are a solid loving couple doing good work to help others.
EXCELLENT dicumentary full of fascinating details!!
I always felt that she was stucked to that relationship unable to terminate it when she had to.. she surely had a strong character and was able to overcome all that hate she received.
She was without a doubt a very elegant woman and intelligent .. As for Edward he followed his desire and was honest about it and as it turned out England was lucky to got a new king who was dedicated to his duty and well loved by his people especially on that crucial point of history.
For some reason, she had no problem with cheating on her husband when she was married and terminating that marriage when she decided to do so. Suggesting that she was trapped in something she didn't desire is an outrage. She was a selfish harlot that destroyed lives of tow mean. Getting a second hand wife is a very, very bad idea.
@@rebuzz6866 It's interesting that you castigate Wallis while ignoring the fact that Edward pursued only married women, was narcissistic, controlling and manipulative to the nth degree. Calling her several times a day, every day? Continuing to visit Wallis and Ernest even as Wallis expressed concern for her marriage? Threatening suicide if she left him? She was virtually imprisoned within Fort Belvedere in 1936. Today that would be termed a very abusive relationship.
I'm not defending nor excusing Wallis. The whole thing was very sordid, but she was living within the mores of her time. It is documented that Jenny Jerome Churchill, the mother of Winston Churchill, had multiple affairs, as did most of the nobility of that time.
Would you consider being a little more even-handed in your assessment of both Edward and Wallis?
@@kathleenmckenzie6261 Totally forgot that with her naive and kindhearted personalty, she could be so easily manipulated into total submission. I can see the fault of Edward, who shamelessly exploited those weaknesses in her intellect. It doesn't change the fact that getting a second hand wife is a very, very bad idea.
@@rebuzz6866 Your sarcasm is duly noted. You totally misread my post. Wallis was neither naive nor particularly kind. Neither of them were sterling examples of mature adulthood; what kind of "man" threatens suicide if his lover wants to leave?
To assess total fault in one partner while disregarding the complicity of the other shows a woeful lack of objectivity. From what I've read, both of them lived very unhappy lives. It was not a "great love;" it was a sick obsession on Edward's part.
Well , at first wallis and her husband were ready to explode the heir the prince of Wales to climb up social.. when Edward succeeded his father and threatened to kill himself if she let him go yes I do believe she couldn't leave him.
Biggest thing missing from this documentary is that the British Secret Service was tracking Simpson because she was providing information to the German diplomat, Von Ribbentrop. There is suggestion that she was sleeping with Ribbentrop as well. Both Wallis and Edward were sent to Jamaica because of fear of their loyalty, as well as to ensure those faithful to Edward could not pass on information to him easily, nor could Edward undermine the morale of the Kingdom (see the Marburg Files).
Your details are inaccurate.
@@dolinaj1 which details?

@@pedanticradiator1491 yes I misremembered that one. The rest is accurate.
I was shocked that didn’t come up too?!
What a way to make way into history! She was aggressive and fearless indeed. To have a king fall for her does speak of her highly. God bless her soul Rest in peace 🙏
How does it speak highly of her? He was a man of weak character who failed his responsibilities. She was an adulteress and opportunist whose folly compelled her into marriage with a man she did not love or respect. She was merely willful and reckless, not fearless. The woman had the means to remain divorced but she was too much a coward to face the public scandal on her own. No decent man of substance would have taken her on due to that scandal. She saw David as her only option, not her consolation prize.
Perhaps it was the union of a weak-willed man and a Narcissist??? H and M are repeating History now.
As much as I want to feel sorry for Edward & Wallis given there relationship with the Nazis & there general behavior at various parts of there "time abroad" I find it extremely difficult to do so and will continue to have a bitter taste in my mouth.
I agree 1000% being that my family was murdered, my parents were Holocaust survivors & thanks to meeting in Nazi camps & both surviving after secretly marrying in the camps, I am alive. UK was very luck that they didn't takeover the UK from Queen E & were exiled.

Excellent . Thanks for posting
This was so brilliant thank you. I've watched so much on Wallis but never learnt half of this stuff!!
Yes, lots of new material for me too .
I heard she hated him by what was said in her letters
Does Wallis and the story of Windsors remind of any other person/ex royal and his wife? There is so many similarities. An American divorcee, a couple living in USA, being unpopilar in England, stepping down and then complaining about their status and titles (HRH) ...
I have to admit that while the video was interesting in and of itself - and learning that Wallis might not have been the 'bad woman' many make her out to be - hearing that the threat of Edward killing himself to keep her gave me a bit more sympathy for her. I personally have been in that same situation and unless you've been in it too, the idea that someone would end their life if you leave them - seriously meant or not - is the worst kind of chain you can put on someone. You are trapped and while yes, you could leave, does your leaving lead to freedom for you, or the end of life for the other person. That guilt and paranoia can make people do crazier things.
My thoughts about Edward are nothing close to charitable because of that and his actions despite what seems to be her wish to not be with him.
Wallis and Earnest referred to David as a Peter Pan, a little boy who refused to grow up, someone foolish and immature. They both set out to benefit from David's wealth and social standing. Theirs was never a genuine friendship formed by mutual respect. They both expected him to become bored and move on to someone else. As it turned out, David was so weak a character that he latched on and would not let go. I cannot pity opportunists who become ensnared by their own greed.
Beautiful documentary.

1:14:10 It is my opinion that she knew exactly what she was doing when she began her flirtation with Edward, but that it spun away from her expectations. I believe she wanted to be queen. Their behavior in Germany, complete with suggestions that she and Edward could be returned to England in some sort of royal position by the Nazis should they win the war, proves it. He wanted to give her the world, and she would have taken it. He was a loose and weak man, and she conniving and evil. They both got what they deserved. She must be spinning in her grave now that Camilla did the exact same thing and got away with it.
I would not say Camilla is in the same league as Wallis.

An unfortunate drivel of a selfish man and selfish woman who's adulterous behaviors almost took down the monarchy.
I totally agree
In what sense? I’m not aware of there ever having been any danger of the institution faltering simply because one of their number chose to abdicate rather than accept the role of monarch (which, after all, wasn’t something he chose in the first place.) He had three brothers - since it’s always been the way of the monarchy to try and ensure that there were / are spares for the job available in the wings - so the chances of them all refusing to take his place were slim to non-existent, meaning the institution would always continue even without him at the helm. Where was the possibility of the monarchy being taken down purely as a result of him making a self-centred choice?
Probably in the sense that they stay for as long as the public chooses to support them.
Around this time the Royals all over Europe were being given the boot in favour of other figureheads sometimes by force.
So falling out of favour can end their reign and see the institution dismantled. Regardless of how many spares you have🤷

I loved her. She was so maligned by the British Royal Family. What goes around comes around. The Royal family today have no room to say a word about The Duke and Duchess of Windsor! I read Greg Kings biography of Wallis and it portrays her in a very flattering light. For my 54 birthday my husband(whose acct I post on) surprised me with an exact replica of her cross bracelet and I wear it every day! Patricia Gambino Harrington
Let us all be honest we are not living in a century where there was a lot of confusion. Today we are all intelligent enough to see how human beings should be treated whether in royalty or just plain day to day people. Humanity is so important for our lives in the afterlife.
I respect and admire Wallis. ❤
That doesn't say much about your morals
I can’t help but marvel at how much of an issue Wallis’s divorce was given that Henry VIII formed the Church in order to divorce his wife. Not that this did not turn out better for the UK given who replaced him, but still ironic.
She was a very good example for being afraid of what you want - she was isolated from her friends and isolate David from his family - i think she was a unhappy and bitterly frustrated person
