Davis describes the necessity for a Miss Fisher film in expanding the already established television universe.

Cancelling the series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries was one of the dumbest mistakes made by Australian television - the show was successful and popular and yet cancelled. I read at the time they wanted to make room for other programs - there had to be another reason, they couldn’t have been that stupid.
It's a head scratcher for sure but ABC has a long tradition of having good series and just letting them fade away for no apparent reason other than no one working thought to put a stamp on renew paperwork.
Could be the booksran out!
I think it also was because Essie moved to London to do other things as well.
Unfortunately yes it can. Networks are often stupid as they are run by people who have no concept of entertainment. They just want another line on their resume.
From memory ABC’s funding was cut by the government.
They need to bring this series back. I can't watch the new one. The original is the one I love. I can't wait for the movie.
I hesitated with the 60’s one but it’s soooo good! I hope they do a series two of it

Absolutely, presence and conviction, clever. And she is charismatically beautiful, fit, healthy and the clothes and sets are fantastic. Melbourne and the historic homes, the city everything is wonderful. I expect this was expensive. Loved the cars, all of it. We need the sharp TV series back.Could you crowd fund towards the TV series and get it going again? I would donate to funding.
I find it fascinating that the show managed to be so sexy while barely showing any skin.
The sensuality of cloth draping with rich textiles providing a hint of what was beneath creates that.
Just proves that we don't have to "skin out" to be popular. Class is class, form only temporary
Essie Davis is a great actress, albeit a bit underrated. She should have more films so the the whole world can appreciate her beauty and talent! Kudos, Ms. Davis!

I can hardly believe I will be watching this film in just two days. Phryne has meant so much to me since the moment I first encountered her. I couldn't be more excited.

This is one of those few times that the show is better than the book. The costumes have developed their own following as those clothes are divine!!!! This show will live right up there with sherlock holmes charlie chan etc. So so good decades later you still watch them over and over. And over!!

I am a Canadian who enjoys Australian programs. The cancellation of Miss Fisher was sad. Just as I discover these great shows, they disappear.

I I may inject a male voce here, I'd like to go on record as saying I enjoyed the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries immensely. I watched every episode on Netflix - twice. I do hope the feature film becomes available in Canada, I would dearly love to see "the team" back in action.
The team does not include Dot, Hugh, Cec, Bert or Mr. Butler. The only supporting character
in Crypt of Tears is Miriam Margolyes (Aunt Prudence).
I want to interject my voice... as a dirty ol' man! I drool for Miss Fisher! I also enjoyed the period dress-wear, the automobiles and period furnishings and that delightfully yummy Phryne Fisher! WHY aren't the Aussie audiences demanding her return? She represented them exceedingly well on film.
Will we ever see a return?? She and the whole cast & writing - the best!!!
No, for Essie Davis has moved on, and the cost of having her in a series has gone up! Australian
Broadcasting & Every Cloud Productions should have acted more quickly after series 3. They did not, and
Essie moved on to Game of Thrones. Thank goodness for the fans who donated close to one million
dollars that helped make this movie. We have been waiting for 3 1/2 yrs for Crypt of Tears.
It certainly had fans in the USA-me being one of them.

I watch it every Wednesday morning on the Ovation cable channel--hopefully the movie will make its' way to possibly an independent movie house (here in the Midwest). 🤞
Im happy about this movie! I have missed the series, wishing that it had continued, rather than being "replaced" by a similar one with new actors. Essie Davis is perfect for this character, whether she is 30 or 60. I hope there will be more movies!! Thank you!
Essie Davis can play whatever she wants, whenever she wants. She's that good.
Honestly, with the wealth of experience that Phryne is described as having, I think it makes more sense for her to a woman in her late 30's/early 40's than a girl in her 20's. It makes her more believable as a character. And Essie really embodies the part! As a side note, I wish I could look as good in a cloche hat as Essie does as Phryne!
I was annoyed they cancelled this series. Now when it is aired on PBS I record it to watch at my favorite time. I put in my vote to bring this show back. I enjoyed watching Ms Davis in her brief role in Game of Thrones. It reminded me how much I missed her. Just loved her character/s on both shows.

Saw it last night-loved it. Was a little disappointed they didn't have a scene showing all the Oz peeps finding out Phryne was still alive. I kept thinking of poor Dot while they were gallivanting all over the place

This series and its protagonist reach so many audiences of people and garners a charm that I hope can be allowed to persist somehow in the future. Essie Davis was and is the only woman alive who could ever captivate the quintessence of Phryne Fisher, and she did so with the most inspiring aplomb. One can only dream that it will come back to the screens, whether in the shape of another cinematic release or a continuation as the marvelous show it proved to be.
I simply LOVE Ms Fisher and her Detective - what a scintillating duo. I'm devastated that there are no more episodes. Have watched the Series over and over again, such a pity that no more episodes were made. Look forward to the film.

Very excited for the new addition to Miss Fisher saga! Especially in a feature form! I can't however believe that the producers, in such a costume driven show, mention in this interview only the input of the DOP, production design, the locations, and special effects, but forget to mention the spectacular COSTUME TEAM WORK, which is an absolute highlight of the show, a magnet for many of the fans, and indeed - a focal point of any period film! Shame on you, ladies! Let's give credit where it's due!

I bought myself a wonderful extra-long kimono dressing gown, shiny silk-like fabric, with a pattern of purple and brown flowers. I call it my "phrynefisher" and when I wear it I say "Get out of the way! Phryne Fisher is coming!"

One of the reasons I subscribed to Acorn TV, was to be able to watch Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. It isn't often that you get actors who portray their character parts that well, and who REALLY add to the story line. Miss Fisher, Dr. Mac, Hugh, Dot, Jack, Mr. Butler, Bert and Cec acted together so well, it was like they were magically put together by the casting director. Some shows the actors are so awkward with each other that it looked like the CD just pulled names from a hat. Then there are some shows where the main character part was too predominant. In Miss Fisher, you know Phryne is the main character, but you also know that she NEEDS the other characters to fulfill her and round out her character. All together a great show!! BRING IT BACK, YOU DOLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw it here in the Netherlands on Netflix. What a wonderful, refreshing and bedazzling series with good effects, plots and a great sense of humor. The chemistry between the characters... Excellenct actors. I can go on and on. One of the best series to ever feature TV. A shame it ended.

Hi I am from South Africa. I watched all the Episodes/series of this remarkable, lovable murder mystery series. This is what thousands of us have wanted to see since Poirot & Agatha Christie. Essie is the perfect actress, I do not think anyone could replace her, or Jack (poor thing) or all the rest of the cast. You, the producers, directors, and everyone involved are absolutely MAGIC !! Please let us know when we can see this "beaut" which I bet is even better (although the first was perfection itself) I believe the cancellation of the series was cancelled due to funding ...... ??? I remember Essie phoning "Jack" quite a while back, while playing his guitar, & asking him to give "it" another shot (he is perfect with Esie/Fran} Ever consider Netflix/Showmax highly popular these days all around the world. Maybe even a donation account, so that the "SHOWS CARRY ON' Truly remarkable choice. ONE OF YOUR GREATEST FANS AND SO MANY MORE IN SOUTH AFRICA. I discovered Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries a couple weeks ago on Ovation. And fell in Love with the show. I have ordered the DVD'S.
