    Thank u sir,for clearing the basic concept.Please explain about nominal diameter.

    • @TECHNICALPIPING
      @TECHNICALPIPING  Před 7 lety

      Nominal Pipe size (NPS), it neither indicates OD nor ID up to 12 inch. For pipe size 14 inch and above, NPS is equal to the OD of pipe.
      It is generally indicated as NPS or Nominal Bore (NB) or Diameter Nominal (DN).
      1 inch = 25.4 mm. So, 1" NPS pipe is called as 25 NB pipe & the OD is 33.4 mm and for 10" NPS or 250 NB pipe, OD is 273 mm. So upto 10" NPS or 250 NB pipe, OD is not equal to NB of pipe.
      But the above is not applicable for size greater than 12 inch pipe. From 12 inch above or 14 inch & above pipe size, pipe size is equal to OD of the pipe.
      14" NPS or 350 NB pipe is equal to 14 x 25.4 = 355.6 mm.16" NPS or 400 NB pipe is equal to 16 x 25.4 = 406.4 mm.24" NPS or 600 NB pipe is equal to 24 x 25.4 = 609.6 mm.

    Then justifiy ur DN definition..

    Hi. I'm a mechanical engineer graduate. I know softwares such as PDMS & Smart 3D. I've been working as a Smart 3D administrator for about 1 year in India (Chennai). I'm no longer interested in this area and thus wanted to switch over Engineering side which will give me thirst to find solutions. In this 1 yr, I came to know about Piping material specifications, valve materials, codes & standards & also some layouts.
    Could you pls suggest me how to switch from this S3D administrator to Engineering side ? Be it Piping layout engineering or Piping material engineering. I just wanna get into any of the above mentioned roles. Please guide me. I'll be grateful to u forever .

    Explain me about DN and NPS
    I don't need observations i need why their calling for?

    • @TECHNICALPIPING
      @TECHNICALPIPING  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi pandit,
      Nominal Diameter is also known as the mean or average outside diameter and is represented by DN. It is neither equal to the inner diameter (ID) nor the outer diameter (OD) of the pipe. Nominal is a word that denotes non-specificity and in this case, identifies the approximate inner diameter with a non-dimensional number.
      The terms nominal bore (NB) and DN are used interchangeably with NPS. DN is the European equivalent of NPS but shows pipe sizes differently than NPS. A 2-inch pipe may simply be referred to as DN 50 and to convert NPS to DN it has to be multiplied by 25.
      Based on the NPS and pipe schedule, the OD and pipe thickness can be obtained from standard reference tables. For a specified NPS, the OD remains constant and the wall thickness increases with the schedule. Similarly, for a given schedule, the OD will increase with NPS while thickness stays constant or increases.
